Interesting article - or at least I thought so:

http://www.guardian....ericans-paradox

About Obama's most 'loyal' electoral base being by far the hardest hit during his term as President. Says something about the depressing state of politics and voter participation more than anything else really.

The white rage since obama has been elected has been scary to behold. However I think that in the long run you are going to see it be for the better. To imagine that the racism that has permeated society for hundreds of years would suddenly be completely undone by Obama being elected is moronic to the extreme. Unfortunately as evidence by the Tea Party and Mitt Romney's campaign the old white back lash has been hard and immediate. For they see themselves as losing power. As evidenced by the signs and shirts at Romney rally's that say put the white back in the white house, and the Romney campaign saying that they should have chosen Christy as the VP because he appeals to white males.

I think that regardless of whom wins you are going to see this as the last campaign that one side will be able to win (or try to win) by appealing to strictly white voters. Frankly any minority voting for Romney should either be in the 1% or fucking insane. If not both.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

In case anyone was in doubt about Jim Cramer being batshit crazy...his election prediction (near as I can make it work in the electoral college while only making one drastically illogical leap, that being Texas): http://www.washingto...l-ball-contest/ Posted Image

edited to use more exact electoral distribution numbers (i.e. Maine split)

Texas, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Lousiana, and Missouri.

Dude's on crack.

In a sign of sanity it looks like Mourdock is going to lose Indiana after his rape babies being gifts from God line.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Indeed. Though I had to figure out the states myself. He just said Obama was going to win 440 in the electoral college, which is, like, impossible, but I figured those were the most likely states. Actually, I started with the only states I could imagine possibly going blue (aside from swing states) and when I was finished I still had a 39 point gap, so I picked Texas, because that's the only state that made up the difference and I figured it was more logical than picking 5 more red states.

440 is just... so beyond the pale. He should stick to hitting buzzers and other antics on his show that Stewart destroyed.

Good article - echoes a lot of what I feel about the situation.

So absentee ballots are nearly even between GOP and DEM in Florida, and in 2008 (when Obama won) the GOP had a 15 point lead in those, with the Dems getting a majority of their votes once the polls open for early voting.

Is this a shift in how people are voting, or is FL going to vote Dem again?

I think it's a shift in how they're voting. Because of the cuts in early voting days and the ungodly long ballots intended to create long lines and make people go home, the Obama ground game has focused on getting people to vote via absentee ballot as one method of avoiding the mess. That's not to say that FL won't go blue. It might. But there has definitely been a shift in style.

So I've been spending a lot of time over on Something Awful lately and they have a couple of threads called Toxx yourself for Mitt Romney, Barack Obama and A Hopeless Candidate. A toxx is basically a bet that A will happen, and if it doesn't you generally get banned, which costs $10 to rebuy your account. The Romney thread has about twenty-thirty people in it, and at last count the Obama thread had 844 different people putting their accounts on the line for the election. As they say, ten bucks will be the least of their worries if Romney wins.

I had to roll this around in my brain before I realized what he was saying.

HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. you know you got a problem with racism if the ethnicity of your president is an issue. His being coloured should not be something to factor into your vote, good or bad.

I think your boss is joking, but it's a mean joke and has classist overtones that aren't actually anywhere near reality. Most of the historical voting patterns in the modern era show a very different pattern than "the unemployed vote Democratic and the employed vote Republican".

Jesus H Christ?!?! Why isn't the entire country up in arms over this? We all knew at the time that Florida 2000 was fraudulent, but this is just overwhelming. At the very least, the entire system needs a massive overhaul and probably the US equivalent of a Royal Commission.

Then again, who owns the media? That's why we never, ever hear about it. We are all fucked. And not in the fun way. :)

538 Switched Florida to 52% for Obama from a Romney Lean. I assume on the early voting results, but I don't know.

I will just find it hilarous with Obama takes Florida. Florida has EC votes than OH and both FL and OH have more than any of the other swing states.
