I read some last night as this was breaking.

I was angered.

I stopped reading.

Anonymity has its downsides and getting away with being an absolutely moronic dick is one of them.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

This might just make the whole thing sadder: http://www.buzzfeed....y-not-be-a-real

The movie itself might be a sham cobbled together and dubbed, by someone under the pseudonym Sam Bacile (possibly a pun on "imbecile"). Others are picking up on that aspect of the story.

Third post in a row, but this is an unrelated topic. Pretty good article on Romney's abominable record with LGBT folks: http://www.boston.co..._much_acco.html

One of the four people killed was a moderator at a forum I frequent and someone I knew of as a man deserving respect and a father of two, and seeing Romney grinning during that?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Yeah, evidently the guy from Something Awful and Eve Online was a very popular internet person.

At this point it is fairly clear it was a terrorist attack, whether or not an assassination attempt or not doesn't matter. So, sooner or later, the people responsible will be caught and tried for murder.

I have hardly seen anything written, anywhere, about the 10 or so Libyans killed trying to protect the American Ambassador and FSOs and that's a shame. Those people gave their lives trying to protect them and they deserve mourning and respect as well. They died protecting someone who fought to bring them liberty and all died at the hands of terrorists.

When was the last time you saw a pro America demonstration in the arab world? A silver lining at least in an otherwise tragic story.

I wish there were more Anti-Extremists demonstrations. It might do a lot to help quell the rumormongering that Islam is a religion of violence. And the demonstration pictures I saw weren't Pro-American, but were more anti-extremist and apologetic than pro-american.

I imagine it's the same pictures everyone saw:

http://www.buzzfeed....ogizing-to-amer

The 'pro-American' bits are in the 'Chris Stevens was a friend to all Libyans' and 'sorry America' type things, which goes along with what Hillary said about Libyans being generally pro-American and thankful for our intervention there. It looks to have been a fairly small demonstration unless this person just felt like taking multiple pictures of the same signs for some reason. But that small demonstration might have done a lot to preempt knee-jerking.

OH the hypocrisy it knows no bounds.

Romney on debates

I want to see Rob Portman debate. He was the debating partner for McCain and now Romney and they have both said that they will never debate him again. He probably uses real facts and numbers and not the talking points that Romney is used to.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Do these countries keep a stockpile of American flags to burn? I mean they have a TON of them just at hand ready to go go.

"Romney defined middle income as 200 to 250 thousand dollars a year."

Down at the local bazaar is a little shop that in the back keeps several tons of spare us flags for just such a time.

That statement was apparently corrected: "Romney defined middle income as $200,000 to $250,000 a year and less."

"Under 250,000 a year." Simpler yes? It shows where his thoughts immediately go and his first option is people between 200 and 250 a year, oh "and less."

So if the median salary is $50,020 then basically the 46 million people who are below the official poverty level (23,021) are basically beggars.

He'll bet you $10,000 on it.

"and less", but no bottom to the range? So a $1 annual income is "middle class"?

From the same candidate that said: "I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there."

Full transcript of that interview:

http://abcnews.go.co...nd-mitt-romney/

Romney seems very confused. Why is he saying that officially Egypt is our ally? He's not the president; he doesn't get to say...

(still reading)

PS—Also interesting is that he says he wants to replace Ben Bernanke as Fed chief. And he's got a new jingle:

Romney said:

More than poll numbers, the numbers 23 and 47 and 16 come to mind. 23 million Americans out of work or underemployed. 47 million people on food stamps. $16 trillion in debt. And now the Federal Reserve, it says, “Look, this economy is not going well. They’re going to QE3. They’re going to print more money.”

(still reading)

PPS—I also was reminded of a bit Maddow had on the other night about how Rob Portman went on networks defending Romney's 9/11 statement, and a reporter had to tell him that the embassy's statement was issued before the attacks. It was hilarious.

(still reading)

PPPS—I'm done now. Last gem:

Romney said:

Ann always gives me the advice as I get ready to go up on the stage and offers a few words of encouragement. And I look to her when I’m in the debate. I look and see her. Typically, her eyes are down. (She’s) more nervous in the debates than I am. She says, “I wish I could debate instead.” She said, “I wouldn’t be as nervous.” But I look to her. And when she’s smiling and confident, that gives me the boost I need.
