I talked today to a friend locally who was chairman of the county Republican party council for 15 years. Pennsylvania. Highly intelligent guy. And crazy as a barn owl on LSD and Quaaludes. He thinks that Trump is in danger of being assassinated. Seriously, he believes that.
I weep for my country sometimes.

And nobody a year ago thought he was a real threat.

@Andorion: A little more on the Oregon standoff. A little snarky (not that I mind), but features pretty conclusive video on top of context of the timeline of events.

That's just because you haven't thought it through. Sure, Oprah seems more...coherent than Palin. But the thing about Palin is, her stupidity is 100% overt. It's out in the open for all to see and all to make fun off.
Oprah however, is also stupid. But her stupidity is rather more insidious being covert. Think about it for a moment. With a VP Oprah one step away from the presidency itself you could potentially end up with a president whose solution to problems, whatever those may be, is to think positive thoughts at them.
See? SEE?
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I realize that Oprah has her own issues, but she's still nowhere near as scary as Palin.
He really is perfect for the job. He occasionally says something embarrassing in public but that's what VPs are for.

Cruz got nailed two times on Obamacare this weekend:
First by an average Joe at an event (it's sick, but telling, that the two dudes pictured with him are Steve King and Louie Gohmert):
http://www.nytimes.c...ences-the-room/
And then again on FOX News this morning:
Both times Cruz's answers are wrong factually and morally, and I don't think it's gonna fly with people who don't already support him. Will it turn even some of them off? I dunno. I think in particular w/ the FOX thing though they are seeing a chance to knock Cruz down in Iowa and let Rubio rise in his place as Trump's rival, since he really is the only one who might turn things around. But nobody else is getting out of his way. What do you call it when people go down with the ship, but they're also the ones who sank it, and they're sticking around for their ego instead of as a noble gesture? Cuz that's basically every single non-Rubio establishment candidate.

This is it, y'all. Election season officially starts today with the Iowa caucuses. We should know tonight who won, but we'll see. In 2012 they declared Romney the winner, then they said it was a tie with Santorum, and then weeks later they said, no, Santorum actually won, and then in the end Ron Paul took all the delegates. Because democracy.

If there are no limits on the VP, why doesn't Hillary run with Bill as her VP? Think of all the crazy shit that would go down in THAT white house...

I'd personally rather not know. If it's a serious question, though, there are two simple reasons: 1) A VP should give a presidential ticket added value, and since she's already got Bill's value as First Gentleman or whatever, making him VP would take away her opportunity to add value to her ticket with someone else; and 2) VP is a job with more expectations than First Lady, and Bill probably doesn't want that kind of responsibility, though both jobs are similarly ill-defined and ultimately serve a similar purpose. That's just another redundancy problem; it would serve her better to have someone else in the VP job.

Plus Bill has been president 2 times. There are term limits to consider which if he was vp and something happened to her then he would be president for a third time. Something which the right would rightfully flip out about.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Ah, MSNBC election music gives me chills.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
