As these assholes are corralled, it will get worse and worse for Trump.

Fur-clad man who entered Capitol says he acted after Trump put out call to 'patriots'

'Extremists intensify calls for violence ahead of Inauguration Day

[...] "We are seeing ... chatter from these white supremacists, from these far-right extremists -- they feel emboldened in this moment," said Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, which tracks and counters hate. "We fully expect that this violence could actually get worse before it gets better."

[...] "Trump WILL be sworn in for a second term on January 20th!!," said a commenter on thedonald.win, a pro-Trump online forum, on Thursday, the day after the siege. "We must not let the communists win. Even if we have to burn DC to the ground. Tomorrow we take back DC and take back our country!!"

[...] "While the broader public was aghast at what happened (Wednesday) at the Capitol, in certain corners of the sort of right wing conversation, what happened ... is viewed as a success," [...]

"Many security analysts were surprised by the lack of security, and by the lack of a robust security response."

[...] the US Capitol building seemed to lack the proper fortification.

"You saw the glass windows being broken in. Why weren't some of those reinforced? It looks like there were some serious physical security challenges that got left to the Capitol police to mitigate."'

From the images and video released to the general public... they made it look easy.

A wooden cabinet, wooden door, and a few guys with handguns? It seems that if more rioters had had handguns (and or throwable bombs or small missile launchers---or small bomb-bearing-drones or other weapons they could fit into their backpacks) and been willing to die, they could have easily overwhelmed them and slaughtered Congress (well, except for the QAnon people and other loyalists...). Perhaps---hopefully---there were far more off camera, with better weaponry, and hopefully they were all wearing some sort of body armor (though somehow I doubt it for those in the photo above). Hopefully the basement and the secret tunnel are more heavily fortified and have better defenses that are kept classified (although Trump has almost certainly already learned what they are and would have no qualms about arranging for those details to be leaked to right-wing extremists). But the inauguration is apparently going to be outside....

I've talked about flags Trump supporters fly proudly a few times and tried to understand what they mean and what the various colors symbolize. The link below covers some of it, but by no means is comprehensive. It goes into other iconography seen at the attack on the capital. Most of it is racist.

Minor "nitpick" to that list. While it is true that Kekistan comes from 4chan, it is a derivative of "kek", which was what lol turned into when read by Alliance players in World of Warcraft whenever a Horde player typed "lol" in an open channel. Therefore, "kekistan" means "Lolistan", literally trollnation. It's a troll flag co-opted by right wing extremists, because of course it is.

I mean, at least I'm fairly sure this is the case, because I remember "kekistan" back from when it was nothing more than a dumb online joke. Unfortunately, such things have a way of growing into something really ugly.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

'Parler Deletes Lin Wood's Posts Calling for Pence's Assassination

Parler, the self-described "free speech social media network," has removed several "parleys" from Trump-loving lawyer Lin Wood that spouted baseless conspiracy theories and called for the assassination of Mike Pence. ("Get the firing squads ready. Pence goes FIRST," one such message read.) Parler CEO John Matze told Mediate the company had removed the parleys for violating its rules. Wood, meanwhile, said he was unaware of the takedown and that his tweet about Pence was "rhetorical hyperbole conveying my opinion that his actions on the Electoral College vote were treasonous to We The People."'

'Parler will not knowingly allow itself to be used as a tool for crime, civil torts, or other unlawful acts. We will remove reported member content that a reasonable and objective observer would believe constitutes or evidences such activity. We may also remove the accounts of members who use our platform in this way.

Sometimes the law properly requires us to exclude content from our
platform once it is reported to us or to our Community Jury—content we
would make it a priority to exclude anyway. Obvious examples include:
child sexual abuse material, content posted by or on behalf of terrorist
organizations, intellectual property theft.

However, even when the law may not require us to flag or remove reported content, or to ban a member, we will nonetheless do so when we deem it necessary to prevent our services from being used by someone in the commission of a crime or civil tort—particularly when these are likely to interfere with our mission of providing a welcoming, nonpartisan Public Square. Examples include criminal solicitation, fraud, and nuisance.

Trump must be impeached. I don't care if it hurts the Democratic chances in 2022 and 2024. It must happen.

There is no point in having a mechanism of impeachment if inciting your supporters to insurrection and sedition does not merit it.

Definitely this. And to think he's sitting there with access to nuclear codes when he's clearly capable of almost anything. People saying there is no point with him leaving office on 20th may be sorry when the world ends on 19th.

I'm so glad his Twitter account has been suspended. All those pointless news stories we've been in a spin about over his presidency because he sits watching Fox News and tweeting when he should be doing serious work. The man is not fit to hold a Directorship nevermind Presidency.

I am under no illusion that the Senate will convict before he leaves office. It simply has to happen because otherwise... because otherwise.... When do we impeach? What use does it have in our system as any sort of mechanism of enforcement or more importantly as a slight deterrence?

Letting Trump almost literally incite a coup attempt (in practical terms he did, but I could lawyer around the word literally incite) and have no repercussions would be a long term nearly fatal if not fatal blow to the current Constitution and its checks and balances. I pray that the Democrats see this and just fucking do it. And that Republicans with a shred of love of our country and what it has been at times and can be do the same.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I could kind of see them doing it not that his term over, so they wouldn’t be removing him, just giving him a strong rebuke. It also prevents him from ever running again. Some senators might now think that’s a good idea?

And Parler looks to need a new hosting site as well, as Amazon web hosting is suspending them.

'Apple has removed Parler from the App Store [...] "[...] We have suspended Parler from the App Store until they resolve these issues,"'

Wonder if the Trump organization will buy them. (Granted, Trump might need the money from his 'stop the steal' graft to pay off his debts. But he could get another loan from Putin's little helpers... maybe it would be simplest if some good Samaritan over in Russia bought them, being immune to US prosecution?...)

'Putin Gleeful After Trumpsters' Violent Insurrection

Putin was practically glowing while leaving a Russian Orthodox Christmas Eve service this Wednesday. Speaking to state TV reporters, he gushed about "the anticipation of a miracle" that can get a person through any rough patch in their life. Putin wasn't talking about the United States, of course, but he might as well have been: America's outgoing president had just delivered the biggest Christmas present to the Kremlin imaginable by inciting a violent insurrection.

[...] Russian state media had played its own part in amplifying Donald Trump's baseless claims of electoral fraud and gleefully predicting that post-election violence would inevitably follow. "There will be blood," asserted Russian lawmakers and state media talking heads, a prospect they considered to be "excellent."

"While the Democrats gained control of Congress and the Senate, that doesn't mean they can control the minds of the people. January 6, 2021 is forever written into the American political calendar. For some, it's a dark date they will try to forget. For others, it's a day to remember—or perhaps to repeat."

[...] The program's U.S. correspondent, Valentin Bogdanov, predicted that Trump "may soon be declared insane, accused of being a spy, or thrown into prison." State TV programs repeatedly brought up the possibility that Trump may end up seeking asylum in Russia, emphasizing that it's a very serious matter and not some kind of a sick joke."'

Made the mistake of watching the uncensored video of the woman getting shot. Why would someone do that? Mob mentality and collective mindset and all aside, why would you do something that is about as irrational a decision one could make as it relates to their personal safety? We all have in our personal DNA makeup autonomic survival responses, yeah? Wouldn't that kick in and have your brain screaming that trying to break through a barrier with guns and yelling at you is not the best thing for your personal well being?

Former US military... during several dangerous occupations. So her personal survival instinct was probably weaker to begin with, and she had some training to reinforce her willingness to die. Granted, I hope the US military doesn't train people to futilely throw their lives away, but if the rest of the mob had followed her example, it looked like they could have overwhelmed the guards shown (3 or 4 guys with handguns, with no helmets, possibly no body armor?...) even if they had all been unarmed (which they weren't). 'QAnon Shaman' could have 'lived up' to the Nordic tattoos on his chest by racing forward to fling his spear at one of them, or perhaps advanced behind a crowd of human shields to stab and slash them from a distance. 'Valhalla' or 'Heaven' or 'immortal fame'....

On the 'DNA level' or hereditary / evolutionary level (relatively recent research has demonstrated there actually is more to biological heredity than DNA)---we should be extremely wary of mistaking our speculations or drastically over-simplified models for necessary biological relations in empirical reality, especially as they apply to human psychology. But there are at least two compelling counterarguments:

1. 'Selfish gene'---there's empirical evidence for the claim that selection over time happens on the level of genes. So if sacrificing yourself allows relatives with the same genes to ultimately pass down those genes more than they would if you'd lived but your family had been defeated (for example, put in prison for life, enslaved, or murdered by the enemy, or alternately if they were rewarded with resources for continuing life or supporting more offspring or having more sexual partners---brother of the martyr etc.), then it would be 'the rational' instinct---the individual is 'selfless' because the genes are 'selfish'.

2. The problem with 'instincts' is that individuals can fail to adapt to new situations. So humans evolved a sort of 'instinct' to be able to dissociate from autonomic instincts and learn new reflexive/automatic responses, or develop techniques to do so. Over time, at least to some extent cultural 'evolution', or a sort of analogue to natural and sexual selection of 'memes' as gene-like elements of culture, accompanied biological selection. Members of groups who were defeated in battle could be genocidally wiped out, or reduced to extreme poverty that would diminish their ability to pass on genes. Having people who were willing to die in war provided a group advantage in war, which was turned into a more general socioeconomic advantage.

Big contrast too on that, with the shooting of Black people. - e.g. in the back (6 times), or as they are running away, or indiscriminately into the general direction of an apartment.

Also, the obsession with phones after she was shot. The police were trying to save her life and screaming for these assholes to backup who were trying to get up close footage with their phones.

'Surprise, Surprise: Off-Duty Cops From All Over the Country Were in D.C. During Capitol Coup Attempt

Several police departments across the country have opened investigations into cops among their ranks to find out if they were involved in the siege [...]

Two Black officers who were working at the Capitol during the attack told Buzzfeed News that some of the insurgents they came face to face with were in fact off-duty cops:

"[One guy] pulled out his badge and he said, 'we're doing this for you.' Another guy had his badge. So I was like, 'well, you gotta be kidding.'"

Another officer, a newer recruit, echoed these sentiments, saying that where he was on the steps to the rotunda on the east side of the Capitol, he was engaged in hand-to-hand battles trying to fight the attackers off. But he said they were outnumbered 10 to one, and described extraordinary scenes in which protesters holding Blue Lives Matter flags launched themselves at police officers.

"We were telling them to back up and get away and stop, and they're telling us, they are on our side, and they're doing this for us, and they're saying this as I'm getting punched in my face by one of them … That happened to a lot of us. We were getting pepper sprayed in the face by those protesters, I'm not going to even call them protestors, by those domestic terrorists," said the officer.'

More details on the video of the Black officer being chased up the stairs by the mob:

'Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman, identified by CNN reporter Kristin Wilson, can be seen in a video getting protesters to move away from the Senate as police raced to secure the chamber.

In the confrontation, Goodman puts himself between a man wearing a black T-shirt for the QAnon conspiracy movement and a hallway leading to the Senate chambers, then shoves the person to induce him and the crowd to chase Goodman toward officers in the opposite direction.

"As trump's fascist mob ransacked the US Capitol, this brave USCP officer kept murderous rioters away from the Senate chamber and saved the lives of those inside. God bless him for his courage," congressman Bill Pascrell wrote'

Senator Pat Toomey ® on Meet the Press:

"Nobody could've predicted this...."

That statement makes me angry. Like, are YOU stupid? 'Cause, I really, really don't think you are that stupid Pat. Do YOU think I am that stupid? Or do you just think that your voters are that stupid?

Oh...

"The radicalization of the left..." means he would still vote for Trump if he could redo it....

What the ever loving fuck.

Good Christ that is so fucking selfishly cynical.

Watching all this unfold from across the Atlantic, its frightening to see the levels of cognitive dissonance.

Reading the comments by Trump supporters about the rioting at the Capitol, there is some amazing mental gymnastics going on to put the blame on anyone else. It's going to be a long 2021.

I read this article on Medium when it came out back in November:

https://indica.mediu...ow-437934b1dac3

I felt that it was true at the time, but of course it's even more obviously true now. Here's a video the author posted the day after the attack on the Capitol from Sri Lanka:

After the stupid coup in Sri Lanka, when things were supposedly back to normal, he came very close to losing his wife and children in a terrorist attack, one of the aftermath events of the stupid coup. So I appreciate the fact that you can hear his children playing in the background in this video.

The President (2012) said:

Please proceed, Governor.

Chris Christie (2016) said:

There it is.

Elizabeth Warren (2020) said:

And no, I’m not talking about Donald Trump. I’m talking about Mayor Bloomberg.

I suspect loss of Twitter and the PGA tour t trump more than any threat of impeachment! No more apprentice obviously. His dreams of creating his own media empire seem slim. He could probably run a very successful podcast but probably thinks that beneath him.

I wonder if his bussiness will truly suffer long term? Will all the criminal probes materialize and make him too toxic or as the Chinese government is wont to say ‘do you want to do bussiness or not’.

It also seems for 74 million Americans at least his brand is still good.

MGM apparently owns the rights to The Apprentice, so he couldn't use the name directly without being sued. (Assuming he hasn't bought them since the article below was written....)

Video cameras have gotten cheap and easy to use, and microphone placement isn't that difficult. I'd guess Trump could do a decent-looking reality show without the major networks. Maybe with the help of some patriotic Russians....

Finding a web hosting service in the red states (or Russia) wouldn't be too difficult.
