I think he has improved as it’s gone on. He was soft spoken to start and trump just by volume drowned him out. He has adapted.

Debate itself is still a disaster.

I was waiting at the end when trump was talking over Wallace “ending the debate” for Wallace to lose it and just say out loud “Cut his fucking mic”....seriously. What a petulant fucking clown trump is.

Harris VS Pence should be less of a shitshow because Kamala is a trained orator and prosecutor...Pence will be lost.

Yep, on the direct ask from Wallace to call out/reject White supremacist groups as bad...he said sure....and then didn’t do it and then talked up the proud boys...so basically the opposite of what he was asked to do.

He was also asked if he would see a smooth calm transition upon election results...and he talked about telling his base to do voter intimidation.

I can’t even...

He was asked if he would tell white supremacist groups to not go to counter the BLM protesters because it will cause violence and if he will renounce white supreme Costa. He said he didn’t know any. Biden mentioned the proud boys and than I think trump said absolutely I’ll tell them to Stand down.

@quick yes I also basically heard him at the end tell his base to do voter intimidation. I was amazed no pushback was given.

"stand back and stand ready"

not at all "stand down"

'the Proud Boys already have a recruiting logo drawn up on the back of Trump's comments during the debate.

https://twitter.com/...134771171545089

[...] the Proud Boys put "stand back stand by" on their logo already, like a slogan.

[...] in Frank Luntz's focus group, Ruthie from PA (upper right corner) said she was undecided coming into tonight..... but now likes Biden b/c Trump was behaving like a "crackhead" and made the debate impossible to watch'

I jumped in and out because I could only take so much. They should have devised a sound proof clear cylinder that dropped down over Trump when it was Biden's turn to speak.

Also, if Trump indeed did say stand by or stand ready. I mean, that isn't even a dog whistle. That's an direct call to be equipped and geared up for Civil War 2.0 if the election doesn't go Trump's way.

I think Biden let some low hanging fruit sail by him. When trump said he had done things as president that Biden never dreamed of, Biden could have gone a number of ways

I never dreamed of putting kids in cages it’s true...
I never dreamed of being impeached

Watching the "undecided" segments and the people who are "undecided" talk....

I kind of get it I think. These are people who are just living every day life and are being overwhelmed by it. No time for anything else in their life, so they pull their head out of the sand for about 2 weeks every four years politically (I'm curious as to how man of them actually vote in midterms, or vote automatically against the power in the executive branch as some sort of "balance").

You don't know you are a fish until you get pulled out of the water. And these people are getting pulled out of the water so I'm sure it is disorienting and sheer pandemonium and chaos to them.

That being said: some of these "undecideds" are so blatantly NOT undecided. It is crystal clear who they are going to vote for the third word out of their mouth.

I still have a hard time imagining how these people have so thoroughly been able to bury their head in the sand. A big part of me has to think they are in willful denial and are not "overwhelmed by everyday life" and more are stubbornly refusing to see what is going on around them because they can't cope. That or they are just liars and have some ulterior motive to hide who they are biased towards.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Aren't there some theories saying that helps account for the result at the 2016 election? All the people who said they were going to vote Hilary or undecided in the polls then voted Trump in the election because they knew they'd be pilloried if they were open Trump supporters. Well, that plus the Bernie Bros. :p

I have no intentions on watching it. There is no reason to pretend my vote is anything other than 100% solidified.

That being said, I am very anxious that people watching it will put any sort of expectations on Biden to "crush Trump" or "run circles around Trump." This will be what it always is when Trump is on stage: Him saying whatever he wants and defeating the entire purpose of the debate.

"Fake news." "Biased moderators." "Cheating Democrats."

Edit: And to be fair, a whole lot of "Trump [sucks]... is stupid... is a criminal...." on the Democratic side. I expect no highlighting of policy to take place here. ZERO expectations on that.

I don't think it is very Nostradamus to say that some day in the future it will rain 😉

It shows how little debates really matter when the system is so polarised. I would like to think that Trumps team know he won't do well in a debate so planned for it to be a shit show but I don't think they are that smart. He's out of control, doesn't care and the debates won't affect those who have decided they are voting for him anyway. Wealthy and/or evangelical people will vote Republican and racist people plus those who are not actively anti-racist will happily vote for him too because "socialism" or "immigration" or some vague rubbish they heard on Fox or Facebook. It's a race to the bottom and they benefit from dragging Biden down to his level. It's lose lose for the Democrats to debate with him.

Never debate an idiot because:
1. people might not be able to tell the difference
2. they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Main takeaways that I noted.

- Trump cannot debate (or doesn't care to)...he thinks debate means talking over people and making snide comments. He also has ZERO idea how to properly stay on a topic and not almost immediately drift to some other shit in his brain.

- Trump was given MULTIPLE outs to refute/reject the recent bad stuff he has said/done/supported: Calling the military losers, supporting white supremacy, COVID deaths...and took NONE of them. Hell, the white supremacy thing was laid out on a silver platter and he could not do it.

- Probably the worst moment of the night was when Trump randomly went off on a rant about Biden's son Hunter and his struggles with addiction (which he's gotten under control as far as I know) to which Biden just kept trying to defend him saying "My son, my son, my son..." while Trump talked over him...Biden talked about Beau and Trump was like "Don't know him, but let's talk about your druggie son Hunter!"...it was an absolutely DISGRACEFUL play to talk about a persons former drug addition problems to their FATHER (none of which has ANYTHING to do with he debate topics in the slightest). I don't think anyone would have gainsaid Biden if he'd walked over to the other podium and punched Trump in the face for that. He crossed that kind of line. You not only bring up someones kids former addiction that he's beaten but then dimissiavily wave away their dead son? Fuuuuuuuck you, you orange windbag.

- Trump endorsed both white supremacy (the proud boys literally added the stand by thing to their "crest" as noted upthread), and voter intimidation, and all but said out loud he was already planning to contest the election and throw it to the SCOTUS.

- Trump lied about stuff that was so easily provable as false....like the Portland police chief being a Trump supporter...meanwhile he went on social media as the debate was airing to say he'd NEVER support Trump and never has.

- Biden was not as strong as I'd like him to have been at first, but as Cause said, he settled in and as he got more and more fed up he spewed a LITTLE fire by the end; "Will you shut up man" "You're a racist" "This clown" "You're the worst president this country has ever had" (<-----truer words not spoken).

- I'm disgusted that there is no mic silencing. I bet it's because the campaigns didn't agree to it...but still, it sould be standard.

- What is it about debate mods that makes them ask leading, stupid questions? Biden: "Folow thew science, but HIS scientists will be muzzled, so how can we take them at their word?".....Wallace: "You just said you can't trust science though".....no, you fucking moron, he said he can't trust scientists under Trump's thumbs. THIS IS NOT HARD. He took Trump to task a few times, but Wallace didn't cover his ass in glory either.

EDIT to add: When Wallace asked Joe Biden, a fucking PRIVATE CITIZEN who holds no office, why he didn't call democratic governors to prevent the protests from getting riotous...I'm sitting there like "Why the fuck would Biden have to call ANYONE? He's not the president"....is that Fox News poking it's talking points around the corner? I can't imagine why you would ask a private citizen why he didn't do something about the government response to protests in random states...

Yip that question about why Biden hadn’t called was ridiculous. Non of the democratic governors need his permission to cal the guard and all have stressed they think it hurts more than helps.

I worry that Biden misspelled when he said I am the party. I know what he meant but I’m also sure it rubbed more than a few the wrong way. The kind of Democrat that will spoil there vote rather than vote Biden.

Also Biden failed to mention half of California was on fore when discussing climate change and instead spoke about turning the federal feet electric .

Trump boasting he brought back football will be an attack add before end of the week.
