I'm not trying to get off easy with the role play. I just want some point of reference that people can look back on some of these posts 3 or 4 days from now and not have to retranslate everything that you posted here on day one. Also you might want to reread the OP. Shin clearly states that the teams are the same size in number.

I was trying to go back through some of Shin's posts on the sign up thread. I could have swore that he mentioned that the game could have ran with 16 players if he had to. If so then I'm saying that there are 4 teams.

What do people think this Open alliance comment means?

しかじかの氏族が提携しているというスレッドでアナウンスがあるように予定されていること

most likely. :p

I don't think he is silenced since he was able to post in English here.

Also he said there (according to google translate): It is scheduled to announce that it has partnered with the thread such and such clan.

I'm finding having to translate things is making it hard to follow the thread in general, I get the role play thing but to be able to do it to a certain extent in English would be helpful for the thread as a whole, translation things aren't the most accurate and back in the day I bet the language was different anyway.

Anyways, here's a threaded discussion with translations: (the most relevant I think)

How many clans do you think are in the game? I confess to not doing any research regarding this period of time in history. I leave that to the over-acheivers of the group which there are many.

それは、本当に様々な派閥の力に依存する。最後の派閥のゲームは上に行くには何もしている場合。私も派閥がないと仮定する。

Isn't a merc game just another way of saying a faction game? That is how I read it. Shin also mentioned that all the "clans" are equal in number.

That means there are either 4 or 5 clans in my book. 2 would be too small and 3 would create uneven numbers. You would have to jump up to 10 clans after that and that is just too crazy.

Well, we made it to page 3 without much overt perversion, and since we have now and it coincides with Merrid's arrival, I think out alt-guessers are currently busy scribbling their little notes to spoiler heaven.
That being said, a little less rudeness is preferred.

War was inevitable and sides were starting to be drawn. Old enemies gritted their teeth and agreed to fight alongside each other, at least for now. Others snubbed offers of treaty as premature, or as disadvantageous . It was becoming more obvious, with skirmishes between armed troops already begun, that old slights could be put aside for a perceived gain.

The Fujiwari of Odawara and the Takeda of Kai have openly allied.
The Ashikaga of Kyoto and the Uesugi of Echigo have openly allied.

the board treats it the same way as it treats copy/pasting from Word, one of the reasons why composing mafia cases in a document or email at work is a right pain nowadays.

Anyhow, if TS is role-playing, he has to do a better job: posting in kanji or kana is just adding difficulty for the reader and isn't RP.
If he is forced to do this, so be it, but why the english addition posted before, then?

If he is doing this to annoy or hide or whatever, meh.
Of course, Shinrei mentioned that he had a special role in store for Khell. This might be it, but I can't see "use Google Translate" as much of rule, personally, so I am willing to eliminate that option.

Regarding faction speculation: I expect the squabbling clans to be all the same size. I do see an option that the Shogunate also has a few officials, these may be a smaller faction rather than equal in size to a clan. How many clans there are: dunno. If we work with variable sizes and a min/max of 16 or 20 players, 3 clans of 5 (+1 shogunate), 5 clans of 3 (+1 shogunate), 4 clans of 4 (no shogunate), 3 clans of 6 (+2 shogunate) , 6 clans of 3 (+2 shogunate) , it's all open.

I do guess we are going to get some hints later on. Since there are wounding mechanics, since all actions appear in scenes (in one form or another) and since these alliances will be published, we'll get plenty of info soon enough.

Quote

All actions performed are subject to appearing in scenes in some manner. There is a system of “Open Alliance” in effect between clans, and those alliances as they happen will be announced on the game thread for all to see.

I think Shin's a gullible guy, believing we can better our ways. Now where did I leave that baseball bat, and can you please point me the way to the porcelain cabinet?

Your breakdown covers most variables, but we know there are 20 players, so I don;t know why you use 16 as a basis. 4 known clans of 5, or 4 clans of four with 4 unknown/unaligned roles. Does this seem plausible to anyone? It's awfully early to have our faction lines so clearly known.
