Nov 8 2012.... REALLY?!?!?!?!
So early January then, right?
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

So, do we have any idea if this is actually another Malazan book?
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

I just saw that it is labelled as "Malazan Empire, book 5" (OST was book 4...) NOV2012 is the approximate publish date. No further details or synopsis were given.

Product description is up on Amazon now too.
Product Description
In the western sky the bright emerald banner of the Visitor descends like a portent of annihilation. On the continent of Jacuruku, the Thaumaturgs have mounted yet another expedition to tame the neighboring wild jungle. Yet this is no normal wilderness. It is called Himatan, and it is said to be half of the spirit-realm and half of the earth. And it is said to be ruled by a powerful entity whom some name the Queen of Witches, and some a goddess: the ancient Ardata. Saeng grew up knowing only the rule of the magus Thaumaturgs -- but it was the voices out of that land's forgotten past that she listened to. And when her rulers mount an invasion of the neighboring jungle, those voices send her and her brother on a desperate mission.
To the south, the desert tribes are united by the arrival of a foreign warleader, a veteran commander in battered ashen mail whom his men call, the Grey Ghost. This warleader takes the tribes on a raid like none other, deep into the heart of Thaumaturg lands. While word comes to K'azz, and mercenary company the Crimson Guard, of a contract in Jacuruku. And their employer... none other than Ardata herself.
Sooo Jacuruku, Ardata, Prince K'azz, what's left of the Guard and looks like Greymane is back! Bring on August and then November...

What about the Grey Ghost being Kyle?

Hopefully we finally get that meeting between Skinner and Kallor that I've been waiting for!
The Visitor is probably one of the Jade Statues that were mentioned in OST and DoD/TCG.
I thought Skinner and crew worked for Ardata, I wonder is she now double-crossing them by offering a conract to Kazz and his loyal Avowed?
EDIT: Perhaps the Grey Ghost is Skinner himself? Probably not but I can't recall offhand the colour of his RoTCG armour.

My first thought on reading ashen chain was kallor, if we are getting ardathas story kallor being around would make sense. Skinner wears plate doesn't he? so it probably isn't him. Could be greymane or Kyle, but I think kallor fits best

From SW we know that Kyle was intending to go back to Assail/Bael and meet the Lost brothers. So maybe he washed up on the way back but I doubt it.
Kallor/Skinner both have previous connections to Jacuruku so its almost certain one or both will be in this book.
And the Grey Ghost really does scream Kallor to me. Unless its Greymane as said. Or a wildcard like Whiskeyjack who is an ascended ghost.
Now from RoTCG we know that the Thaumaturgs control the big stone soldiers. Or at least I presume that was one of them who met Kyle/Traveller and Erko. He said that the Crimson Guard (Skinner and co) had conquered a neighbouring kingdom. So was that Kingdom the jungle or the desert tribes where this Grey Ghost fella is? hmm.

Could've been some other neighbouring kingdom that wasn't then but is now a part of the thaumaturge kingdom.

Grey Ghost does sound like it could be Greymane, Kyle, or Kallor. Anyway, the synopsis has me really excited about this book! I have not even read Orb Scepter Throne yet as I always endure the agonizing wait for the US edition to get published by TOR.

Its got to be Kallor.
Kyle is not a veteran commander and the Grey Ghost doesnt fit him. I cant see ICE killing off Greymane in such a fashion tied to his very name of SW then have him come back immediately. The Grey emaciated form of Kallor fits a description the Grey Ghost as does the long battered mail coat he has worn since GOTM. Also while Skinner does fit as uniting the tribes and attacking the Thaumaturgs lands and would set it up well for a reckoning with Kazz, he clearly has uber plate armour as his trump card in ROTCG. Id say Kallor is the obvious and correct choice for the Grey Ghost.
Which leads me to believe this book will be fucking awesome

Grey Ghost sounds like Kallor to me. I like this, all-new storyline, lots of possibilities...come on ICE, you can do it this time!

The Grey Ghost is an all new ICE character whose real name is Larry.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
