I think I posted about this earlier, but my wife got me floor seats to see Rogers Waters perform The Wall. Not here in Seattle though, I'll be going to spend a week in Denver with my two best friends who happen to be married, and are going to the concert with us. Score.

A set of japanese kitchen knives! It'll be wonderful being able to slice through the ingredients rather than separating them through blunt force.

I also got an iPhone and a $500 gift certificate for Ikea, so There Will Be Bookshelves.

Money, a set of dominoes, a funny calendar, and more money.

I think the best part of the day was breaking out the boardgame Luci and I got for Mum and Dad - it's SO awesome to see a gift well-received, enjoyed and shared :D

Lets see,

1000 square metres of rainforest
DVD of Four Lions
DVD of Into the Wild
DVDs of Frozen Planet
Private eye Annual 2011
The Grapes of Wrath & Other Writings 1936-1944 - Steinbeck
Some money

I'm pretty pleased with that. Especially as the main presents that I bought for other people (tickets to see the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon & subscription to a fairly niche journal, and a private eye subscription) went down very well.

Four Lions was hilarious. Grapes of Wrath not so much, but of course still awesome. Sounds like a great haul.

Blindsight by Peter Watts is free for the Kindle and it's badass. And everything before 1933 (or around there) is free also. There's a ton of Lovecraft out there that's free.

Anywho,
My haul:
From the wife: Rachel Ray 10pc. Pots and Pans, hiking boots, jeans, socks, jacket, nose-hair trimmer (she insists I need it), 2 shirts, and some other stuff.
From dad: Ka-Bar Campanion BK2, Cold Steel Recon 1 with Tanto blade, ESEE arrowhead, Ka-Bar Becker Necker, and a butterfly shadow box.
From mom: Maxpedition backpack, Telescope, 2 shirts and a sweater and a scarf (though I'll never actually wear it), some misc. survival gear (paracord, first aid kit, and basic stuff), $100, and a shitload of chocolate.
Parents in law: $100
Grandparents: Bunch of money

My 2.5 year old daughter got a lot! She even got a drum set which we'll be keeping at my dad's.

MY presents are irrelevant, what's important is that I bought my sister the joke gift of a 2012 Cliff Richard calendar and my mother stole it as it was the only calendar in the house she could use for planning and schedules. So now their house is tainted with the undead souleating fiend that is Cliff. MY WORK IS DONE
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

How much did that cost?

Do you now own this land? Or is it like a donkey or child from Africa where some shaddy office sends you make believe postcards scrippled in an idiotic handwritting?

Will they be sending you a letter and a picture when your rainforest graduates from rainforest school?

(My bold)

More importantly, can you cut it down and sell the lumber for profit?

Anyhoo, I got some kitchen stuff (I needed that) Some boxers (desperately needed) The Bro Code, The Dark Knight: Year One comic book, spinning pants (my ass will be grateful for that) and a new pair of shoes.

All in all a good year.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Spinning pants?!?! How does that even work unless you're one-legged?

it's this kind of weird fabric with an in-built "pillow" for your ass because the spinning-saddle works horrors on your behind!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I got Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the new Dominion expansion.

We also got our kids a joint gift of a Nintendo 3DS. I've been having a blast playing Super Mario 3D Land.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

No, I was gifted the money, which was spent on a conservation trust to buy that amount of land so that it won't be cut down. So carbon benefits and wildlife benefits accrue. I figured out that each year of it's existence it's the equivalent carbon absorbtion of the carbon consumption of me flying from London to Edinburgh. What annoys me, is that I said I didn't really want anything for Xmas, and I would of been happy if people bought me just that. Everything else I could of got myself, or would of got at some point. Bleh.
