Don't know if this is intentional, but Peter's monologue makes him comes off with enormous amounts of hubris. This is a superficially impressive monologue - a few time/date mistakes and narrative smoothing - which is absolutely perfect for what Weyland-Yutani becomes and what the ship crews eventually stick their noses into.

I like it lots. Plus TED is usually pretty dang awesome.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I believe I will be calling in sick that day. *cough*
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

General rule of thumb for me: If Guy Pearce is in it, I'll watch it. He's a brilliant actor. He and Sam Rockwell are my modern day favourites.

As you would expect from any self-respecting future interstellar corporation, Weyland Industries has it's own website. I guess between now and June 8th, it's going to become an interesting site! Sometimes advertising can be a great thing.

Mrs McLovin and I began our ALIEN saga rewatch. One down, three to go.

Now, am I making this up, or...
Spoiler

That wasn't in what we watched, but I swear I've seen that.

Did you not watch Ridley's director's cut? The restored footage in that cut is exactly that, so yes, it exists.

Did you perchance watch them on BluRay? The transfer of the audio and video is bloody GORGEOUS on the BluRay set.

Oh and if possible, make sure to watch the directors cut of ALIENS as well when you get there. The Colonists Last Stand and the autogun sequence that were restored in that cut were some of the best bits of that film.

No, I just DVR'd them from various TV channels.

Don't know where/when I saw the director's cut, but I guess I did.

I really want the Bluray anthology, but I'm trying to maintain fiscal discipline.

It's pretty cheap right now. I got it for like $49, which is kind of a steal for 4 movies and 3 supplementary discs.

That's what I said. :wallbash:

Mind you, same thing with Avatar. And we knew the outcome of Titanic from the get-go. The overall plot isn't that important, I guess? XD

No way, all that stuff happens in the first 15 minutes.

^^This.

Believing otherwise with a film by Ridley Scott (who is notorious for keeping things under wraps and being a hardass about it) is foolish.

Trust in Ridley.

IT all depends on whether he had much in the way of influence on a trailer that looks suspiciously like every other Hollywod trailer these days.

Morgoth, I hate to tell you, but the director is the ONLY person who has influence over the trailer. That's how it's always been. As well, the film is produced (AKA the money was ponied up by) Ridley himself (and Walter Hill, friend of Ridley and original writer of 1979 ALIEN) so no one else even has a say at all.

Also, both the teaser trailer for PROMETHEUS and this new one have aped the original teaser and full release trailer for the 1979 ALIEN. It's all on purpose.

Have a gander at Ridley's history. He does what he wants, when he wants, his way...or no way. It's always been that way. http://en.wikipedia....ki/Ridley_Scott

Sorry, but he's my fave director and always has been. He does nothing wrong-footed.

Also, I don't know what you mean by "Hollywood" since the film is being made by everything BUT Hollywood. Sure, 20th Century Fox is going to release it, but the money all came from Ridely and Co.

Huh, I didn't know that. I always figured the studio let some marketing people do whatever they thought fit best with the target demographic.

Nope, no director would let his months-long work out of his hands for a trailer.

You only get pressure like that when the producers or the big money-suppliers are the release company like Fox or MGM...but even then the director always cuts the trailer, sometimes on their own, sometimes in an editing bay with the films main editor.
