So it was Raimi's idea to basically tell me the entire plot of Spiderman 3 in its last trailer?
Cos that really pissed me off when I saw the trailer. It did give away almost every single plot beat in advance.

Yes, that would have been Raimi (with pushing from Avi Arad of MARVEL COMICS, who is a friggin idiot) who cut the trailer. And yeah, it did give away everything. But that was okay cause it was a terrible movie anyways.
Though it should be noted that Raimi is not a stranger to that sort of thing. The first Season of Xena (when he was still heavily involved in production), almost every "Next Time" trailer gave away WAY too much. But then this is a hack who copied his own film (DARKMAN) EXACTLY as the plot and pace of the first SPIDERMAN film (no seriously, check it out. Even some of the specific shots are identical in both films). As you can tell, I dislike Raimi's work.

I'm beginning my rewatch of the previous films in anticipation after seeing those trailers. Daaaaaaamn!
Have you heard Bay's plan for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake? Opps, my mistake, I should have said Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles.

I had, but TMNT was after my time, so to speak, so I wasn't particularly bothered about it.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I'm only bothered due to nostalgia - I watched them as a kid but when my interests changed I never went back to rewatch the cartoon thereby leaving me with only awesome memories. Plus I hate seeing Michael Bay be given the chance to ruin another fanbase.

If you're referring to Transformers, I might point out that the fanbase has been doing just fine, what with the 2-3 ongoing comic book series, a TV show, and multiple toylines that have been running concurrently with the (unrelated) Michael Bay movies. The only "fans" driven away from the franchise by the live-action films are the ones who haven't been paying attention to what the franchise has been doing since the original cartoon ended 20 years ago.

As for TMNT, I love the controversy for the simple fact that it gave us this:

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I don't quite understand the uproar over Bay's planned TEENAGE ALIEN NINJA TURTLES. It's been a comic, an animated show, a set of live action movies, and a more recent animated film...so why not toy with the story a bit and bring something fresh to the table instead of attempting to redo something that's already been done to death since the 1980's? I also don't quite see how fans can get their panties in a twist over the origin of the turtles...mutated from ooze or from an alien world...who cares which...and in fact, "from an alien world" seems a whole lot more plausible to me than mutated from ooze anyways.
At any rate, turtle fans always have the entire turtle repertoire to go back to if they want to be nostalgic.
Consider me on board Mr. Bay.

I don't think plausibility comes into it- it's about the mythology and icons of the franchise, the sewer thing is a major part of it.
I mean I have no investment whatsoever in TMNT and will almost certainly not be seeing the film anyway, but I can see where the fans are coming from. It'd be like someone bombing into Doctor Who and saying that instead of an alien, the Doctor is a super-evolved human from the far far future. It wouldn't make a significant difference to the state of the series, but I'd be cross.

hit me with my fave show.

Yeah, in that light I can certainly see fanboy grumbles.
Well played PG, well played.

I think it's because Michael Bay is one of the worst filmmakers of the last 3000 years and it really has nothing to do with the details or the TMNT back story, except that it's a relevant example supporting the main premise.

Hey, now. The Rock and Armageddon are good movies. Stupid fun, but still good.
Bad Boys was sporadically entertaining, but it's all a downhill slide into the very sewers we are talking about here.

Wait, Armageddon?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I haven't seen either of those since they came out, and I didn't like either one back then, but I wouldn't count them among his worst (largely due to their casts). I watched both Martin and Fresh Prince of Bel Air growing up, and still didn't like Bad Boys. But if these are his best movies -- and they certainly might be, no thanks necessarily to him anyway -- it's a back-handed compliment that just means he's gotten worse and worse. I think I'd rather watch McG, Brett Ratner, and Uwe Boll human centipede each other for 2.5 hours than watch another Bay film.

I like a selection of Bay's work as stupid, fun, mindless, action 'splodey.
I don't think that makes him a bad film maker, it simply makes him a film maker a lot of people (WW included)don't like.
I personally enjoy him...when he's "on"...when he's off he can make some stinkers...but THE ROCK is one of the greatest movies of all time.

I'm not trying to convince anyone not to like The Rock (or even Armageddon), but even if you do I'm not sure it should mean much re: TMNT because it is at best an anomaly in his otherwise F-minus career. And I'm not saying Michael Bay sucks because he makes popcorn movies, I'm saying he sucks at making popcorn movies. Like, whoever directs Mythbusters builds more excitement and tension before an explosion than Michael Bay seems capable of. He's incompetent at making movies, not competent at making bad (or mediocre-to-good shallow) movies. He's Ed Wood with financial backers. Plus Bay is responsible for the Platinum Dunes production company, which is maybe neither here nor there re: his directing, but it's still a slap in the face as far as film-making goes.
Anyway, here's even more TMNT news for the Prometheus thread (glad Anomander started this aside, so none of us can get scolded for going Off Topic): http://www.avclub.co...er-laird,71365/

The most annoying thing about Michael Bay is that even in some of his less successful films he has moments where he's capable of being good, and even really good. Take Transformers 3: the assassination sequence and the bit at the end with the attack on Chicago were fantastic. But then he mixed the one in with some awful slapstick non-humour and made the other way too long - he has very little sense of tone and pacing. The Island and Bad Boys II (which I must confess I quite enjoyed at the time, though I've never watched it since) also have effective moments.
Ultimately though I find him a poor man's Roland Emmerich which makes him a poor man's poor man's Steven Spielberg... Though I think Worrywort's opinion is somewhat extreme.
Interesting fact about The Rock: it's the only film on which Quentin Tarantino and Aaron Sorkin have both worked on the script (they were uncredited script doctors). Who'd have thunk?
