I'm sure I've said it before
Fuck Erebus.

And we're done.

As a whole the project is staggering in scope really, but a lot of variance in quality along the way.

Not something I'll reread

Asked my dad if he liked HOTD S2 and he said yes but hated the ending. Then we got to talking about Witcher and I told him he will have a new actor when he next watches it. This I told him about Henry’s next project Warhammer. He asked me what’s Warhammer. This was a difficult question to answer so just said “it’s sci fi in 40,000AD”….

And Gaunt’s Ghost can still go fuck itself after pulling that stupid shit it did. Time ain’t healed that wound.

You kinda deleted your posts on the GG stuff you had issues with. I've been curious what your issues were?

While waiting for GAUNT'S GHOSTS to return, and PANDEMONIUM to appear so that I can finally dive into the Bequin books (I've been patiently waiting with book 1 & 2 till 3 is out), I bought all of the DAWN OF FIRE series, and read book 1 AVENGING SON (really solid book, introducing the Primaris Space Marines, awoken Guilliman, ect.)...but then realized that these come canonically AFTER the fall of Cadia and thus the Eye of Terror opening and the Indomitus Crusade kicking off...and I own all the Cadia books (the Minka Lesk stuff anyways), so I jumped into the MINKA LESK omnibus and I'm on CADIA STANDS, and while this is not quite Abnett/GG-level Imperial Guard stuff, it's as close as anyone else has ever come for me. Justin D. Hill has crafted a group of characters worthy of rooting for, Lesk chief amongst them...this is a great read so far to fill the GG's void. Imperial Guardsmen stuff just feels so easy to get into, incalculable odds, gallows humour, and geniounly good people trying to do genuinely good things in a universe gone mad.

Finished CADIA STANDS and the two short stories in the Minka Lesk omni....it's funny, she's not in much of those...It's like Justin D. Hill din't realize he had a character he wanted to REALLY follow till TRAITOR ROCK, and NOW she leads the series.

I like the Cadians. I don't like them as much as the Ghosts. The Ghosts blow them out of the water for every single person being interesting in unique ways. I also feel like Abnett's military knowledge (having been in it) VS Hill's lack thereof works a little but against Hill. He glosses over some of the better things, and deep dives into stuff I care little about....but overall, it's a still a very solid series so far. I feel like it will get better as well. I'm quite enjoying it even if it's no Ghosts.

Continuing on my 40k journey, I'm back into the Eisenhorn books (I'm re-reading the first three as I never read the fourth, so I wanted a re-fresh...)...still wonderfully great.

Thanks for reminding me QT that I still have the 4th Eisenhorn book - The Magos - unlistened to in my Audible library. Once I fininsh getting caught up on Sun Eater, I will listen to that. I agree, they are great.

I need to go through Humble Bundle and Fanatical and see if I have any more Warahmmer books I haven't gotten to.

I buy a lot of them own release day as I don't want them to go out of print and miss out....which means I probably have about 10-12 40k books I own and have no read yet. LOL

Heads up. Dan Abnett just gave an interview where he stated that the reason Bequin Book 3 (PANDAEMONIUM) isn't out yet is not due to him, but because it sounds like it might spoil some stuff that hasn't happened yet in-universe yet. So that's interesting.

It’s possible i maybe ordering more books soon after I finish Dresden’s new book. If I do I may log on while I’m reading to post in this thread. That was good times while 3 or 4 of us were reading Ghaunt at the same time. Idk what I ll get as I still can’t get Dark Eldar omni. Maybe I’ll look into a Pysker or Space Marines set.

We shall see.

That was nice, yeah. I enjoy doing informal group reads like that sometimes.

I'm also missing having something along the lines of the Ghosts to use as a palette cleanser between other books. I've been considering checking out the Ciaphas Cain books. I know they have a different tone than GG, but I'm hoping they might be able to serve to fill that void a bit

Have you read any others since then? I’m not sure what I ll get. Maybe Eisenhorn or Ravenor but yeah that was a very fun few months on the whole that should maybe be repeated if possible. I didn’t get an ereader so I ll be limited to what I can find in dead tree.

The Cain books are good and fun. Only note is don't read them one after the other. There are certain stock phrases that Cain uses which become too much if you binge them.

Cain is definitely a guy you could go enjoy a beer with.

Vouching for the Eisenhorn and Ravenor books....and if you've not read them, the Bequin ones are the best of that lot. Ravenor was just reprinted in like July, so you should be able to find it...and the Bequin ones are recent enough too...you MIGHT struggle to find the Eisenhorn ones in Dead tree, but check around as the gold-spine reprints was not too long ago.

Also, they reprinted Abnett's DOUBLE EAGLE with the release of its sequel INTERCEPTOR CITY, which is 40k Does gritty Top Gun and both are awesome. The Phantine XX fighter pilots it focuses on could be the airborne of the Ghosts with how cool they are.

I just noticed I have an Age of Sigmar book in my Audible library I haven't read. I have enjoyed the non-40K stuff too. I was just thinking I need to get back to Warhammer, as I really enjoy these books. I could be up for another group read.

I haven't read anything 40k since I finished up GG, no. I've been consider Cain because I love the trope of the cowardly hero but I'm also game for more Abnett. I'm kinda surprised you're interested in more Abnett though with just how much you hated the (current) conclusion of the Ghosts.

T77 did you finish Ghosts? I seem to remember you falling behind a bit at the time.

Where is Apt?

JPK I’m cool with Abnett I just will be leary with forward progression on Ghost. Time has dulled a bit of my zing.

I will not be able to obtain Ciaphas fully currently unless I drop $130 on some books and I ain’t gonna do that.

I ll be returning to the Sabbat worlds though as I just ordered Double Eagle and its sequel which is 10% off. I ll get Eisenhorn and Ravenor after I get Dresden or at the same time if my shit store carries them which I’m thinking they might as I’m sure I have laid eyes on at least Eisenhorn in the past.

THERE IS ONLY WAR!

BITCHES!
