Overall i though this first half of S2 dragged at points and felt at times like they were padding, but overall it worked. Not quite the wild ride that the first season was, but entertaining.

Since he was fired midway through the shooting/editing of season 2, I wonder if the slow first half of the season is Frank Darabont's (fired showrunner) doing and was the reason he was canned...

It will be interesting to see how much the second half of the season differs with a different showrunner.

I really wished they had gotten a little grimier this season. I had high hopes that the barn full of zombies was merely a tool the old dude was creating. A little army to unleash if in crazy people came by and tried to take his family's land.

I think it's at 90-something. There are a few different collections including tpb, hb and 'Ultimate massive big use to club zombies to redeath sized' editions.
It's VERY good, btw, sometimes brilliant, and especially so when you can read big bloody chunks of issues in a row.

Worth it. I read the first 80 or so in a row and was blown away. The tv show is great, but the comic really plays havok with the characters and tells a brilliant story.

Here is reason #1 why firing Darabont was a piss poor idea on AMC's part.

Fuck. I am SO annoyed we didn't get this, because it sounds amazing and would have been a REALLY great way to ramp things up for a 3rd season.

Here is what Darabont had wanted to do with Season 2 of WALKING DEAD before he was fired.

I wanted to kick off the 2nd season with the flashback episode Sam describes, which would have followed a squad of Army Rangers getting trapped in the city and trying to survive as Atlanta falls.
The idea was to do this with a very focused “you are there” documentary feel. Not going all shaky-cam, but still making it a bit rawer and grainier than the rest of the show. We’d start with a squad of maybe seven or eight soldiers being dropped into the city by chopper. They have map coordinates they need to get to; they’ve been told to report to a certain place to provide reinforcement. It’s not a special mission, it’s basically a housekeeping measure putting more boots on the ground to reinforce key intersections and installations throughout the city. And we follow this group from the moment the copter sets them down. All they have to do is travel maybe a dozen blocks, a simple journey, but what starts as a no-brainer scenario goes from “the city is being secured” to “holy shit, we’ve lost control, the world is ending.” Our squad gets blocked at every turn and are soon just trying to survive. I wanted to do a really tense, character-driven ensemble story as communications break down, supply lines are lost, escape routes are cut off, morale falls apart, leadership unravels, mutinies heat up, etc. (Yes, this approach owes a spiritual debt to a number of great films, including Walter Hill’s Southern Comfort.)
Along the way, I thought we could briefly dovetail this story with a few established characters from the show. Not to overdo that, mind you, because it could get silly and too coincidental if you load too much into that idea. But I thought it would be great to veer off on a quick narrative detour that brushes our soldiers briefly up against some people we know.~Frank Darabont

On the one hand that would have been cool to see.
On the other it's not really keeping with the 'ordinary people in fucked up circumstances' theme of the show, nor even the comic.

That said, it would have likely been way better than about 60% of S2 so far.

I just watched episodes 1-4 of walking dead season 1. I had never seen them, and it ruined the surprises at some parts but it was still awesome and I'm glad I did so.

Sadly rumors are that the actor who plays Shane was going to walk when they fired Darabont and that now he may be leaving to join Darabont on another show as lead.

Other than Darell, Shane is the most watchable actor on the show.

I'd be sadder if it was Darell. Shane's whole unrequited love thing is dragging, altho the thing at the school with fat guy was by far the best part of S2 so far.

Overall enjoyable ep. I think the slow burn is finally reaching the end, because every single thing that happened in this episode is going to lead to MICHAEL BAY EXPLOSIONS OHMYGOD in the next episode.

Also, I hate Rick's wife. So much. I love Glen. And I love Rick again after his badassery in this episode.

Can't wait for next week...
