I am super eased with how this season is going. I didn't love last season, thought about abandoning the show altogether. Glad I didn't.

I'm on the other side of that. I thought that was one of the best episodes of the series (along with season 2's burning down the farm finale) with just so much awesome going on.

The girl digging in the mud and finding a walker. I thought it was a coffin at first, so I wasn't surprised, but that was a cool scene. Lead to an even better one of The Governor putting her down without hesitation. That was cold, and another reminder that he never changed.

Hershel's death was a surprise, but if I had to pick who was going to die going into the episode it would have been him. His actions the last few episodes felt like a swan-song to me. The actor wasn't thrilled about leaving, judging from his attitude on Talking Dead. Mostly just sitting there, arms crossed and not saying much.

The assault on the prison, with a tank! Epic. Great shoot out, combined with incoming zombies, and a mass exodus made it exciting. It was interesting to see the kids step up and defend themselves too. Taking Carol's lessons to the next level. Speaking of which, she is totally coming back in the next part of the season.

Finally, the death of The Governor. It was coming, it had to happen. Especially, after we learn that there is no redemption for him. What a great episode.

Now that issue is resolved, the series will improve. If ever there was a time to remove someone from the story...

I'm glad they actually killed off the Governor... He should have died at the end of the last Season. And frankly, the only two episodes I wasn't really pleased with so far this season were the two Governor-centric episodes. I feel like they could have just skipped all that and had the Governor just show up at the Prison with his new people in tow. Or, you know, done all that crap in half an episode instead of dragging it out over two.

It was a failed redemption arc, and, really, I didn't believe for a second that the Governor was actually going to redeem himself, so it felt, to me, like just waiting for the inevitable. I was really excited when he showed up at the end of an episode, I was all like, OH YEAH, SHIT'S GONNA GO DOWN!!!! But then they tried to make me like him, then hate him, and then wonder how colossally stupid and/or blood thirsty the people in the camp he took over were... Like, Rick's all like "You guys, this guy's an asshole" and then the Governor was all like "We need to take the prison, and I'm gonna kill these two people to get it..." and the rest of them were all like "Well I guess it makes sense that Brian's a good guy, even though he's contemplating killing these two people in cold blood, with a fucking samurai sword! Let's kill the prison-folk!" And then he kills Hershel, and instead of, you know, trying to drive the prison people out, they fucking destroy the whole building, fences and all... "If we can't have it, no one can!"

And really, why didn't Rick, you know, say something about Andrea, or why didn't Michonne say anything about the shit she and the Governor went through? Why was everyone so damn stupid?

That all being said, it was still a fun episode to watch, rife with emotional moments. And the fight, albeit stupid, was still great fun to watch!

I've had to work throught that at times too. Can be tricky. Luckily cable stations will replay the same episodes several times through the week, usually a couple times RIGHT after the original broadcast. I think I had to set up my DVR to record the 2nd showing of Walking Dead a while back to compensate for multiple shows. Also luckily sometimes the shows are on premium channels so you can just watch the episode on demand later on. Definately pays to plan ahead and look at "upcoming recordings" to see if there's any conflicts and practice up on your DVR-jutsu.

Just marathoned season 4a so I'd (potentially) be ready for 4b. If you like the show and don't want your parade rained on (looking at you, BK), don't read this.

It was a general upswing from last season's finale, but that isn't saying much, since I'd give that an F- - -. First episode was even pretty entertaining, w/ the raining zombies from the rooftop and whatnot, and the zombies were intermittently cool throughout 4a. Unfortunately that's about it. This might be the worst written show, character-wise, on television now that Dexter is gone. But at least Dexter had the courtesy to say "now that it's season 5, we're gonna suck from now on, that's a promise!" And they kept it. Meanwhile TWD has cruel flashes of goodness -- last season's "Clear" in particular, and that first Governor episode in this one -- and then it does something like start an episode with a nonsensical, oafish, out of character fistfight between Tyreese and Rick.

And those last two episodes, man, what a total strikeout. How about the first thing coming out of Rick's mouth being: "Hey, you killed everyone from the last town who wasn't elderly or a kid, and the survivors are all here to prove it"? Nope, just "some of your old friends are on our council". But in the context of it being Rick it actually makes perfect sense, since he's the most consistently poorly written character on the show. Not to be confused with Herschel, who is the most poorly conceived and acted. I might give that last ep an A+ anyway for finally ridding the show of him. Still doesn't make up for getting rid of the seemingly only person on the show with previous professional acting experience, Carol. They finally give her something to do, and it's almost as stupid as the dead end storyline they gave Andrea last season. I know Carol didn't die and so might show up again, but I hold out hope she's living on a farm somewhere, far far away from TWD's writers and their pathological need to destroy any character that once might have garnered sympathy. But again, at least Herschel died, and also a baby got eaten, so I'm not saying it was all bad.

Okay, that's all, glad you guys like the show. I won't make a habit of bashing it.

Great episode. It was very reminiscent of the comics, and classic lit. I'm thinking reactions will be similar to a certain Game of Thrones scene.

I feel like Carol and Tyreese did a very poor job of teaching Lizzie what the actual difference between Walkers and Humans is. They just appealed to some nebulous "but they're different!" argument, instead of relying on rationality. They could have walked Lizzie through it, explained the science behind death, and even shown her the rotting brains of Walkers and compared them to the brains of an animal they just killed. Or they could have even appealed to emotion somehow (e.g. "Lizzie, what do you like about your sister? Do you like talking to her? Well, would you be happy if you couldn't talk to her ever again? Walkers can't talk.") or something like that.

But then again, when do the characters in this show ever make rational choices?

(Trick question: apparently no one in TWD universe has heard of rationality or logic)

EDIT: Of course, there was clearly no amount of teaching that could change her after she pulled that stunt with her sister.
