That was actually a pretty good episode once they left town. All the characters I care about (Carol, Tara, Daryl, sometimes Glen) had actual things to do.

Indeed. The infiltration/murder Saviors in their sleep through the eyehole sequence was scripted and shot for maximum tension, and yeah it felt like someone was going to fuck up or get killed around every single corner...that that tension doesn't release till the guy with his toothbrush. A well, well directed and edited episode.

I know they are working up to the whole Maggie-runs-Hilltop while Rick-Runs-Alexandria...plotline...but I wonder if she'll make it through the forthcoming events unscathed in the show.

It's also nice to see Morgan building the proper jail cell that will EVENTUALLY hold Negan.

This last episode for me, was one of the most tense episodes I have watched on this show.

It was pretty tense. Good continuation from last week. But...

Last episode they wisely got all the stupid stuff done up top, so the tense part was the whole second half. This time they stopped it cold a few times for monologues (of course); the lady w/ Maggie wasn't so bad, but Alicia Witt's secretary story was so tedious. Also it looks like they're planning to destroy Carol, the one character who's never a horse's ass. If they turn her into an emotional wreck full of remorse, after all the sense she's shown, I hope everyone behind the scenes involved in that decision winds up in a burning room like those Neganites.

I'm hoping they are just softening her up so that when a tragedy occurs she can rise up again and lay the smack down. Kinda like Superman 2.

Honestly, I think she saw how close she was to becoming Alicia Witt's character and it really disturbed her. Notice she had no problem taking out the other woman. I loved seeing her play the Saviors.

Carol saw a distinction between "just killing" and protecting Maggie (and child). She blew 'Chelle away instantly, with no hesitation because she had just nearly laid Maggie's guts wide open. But aside from that, she appears to be very conflicted. I really hope they don't turn her into a Morgan disciple, fear of becoming Paula (Alicia Witt) or not. It's a credit to Melissa McBride that I could not tell at all how much of Carol's act this episode was baiting the enemy and how much legitimate "I'm falling apart." I was certain the rosary/cross was going to get used for more than prayer but I kinda expected it to go right into Paula's jugular.

Sometimes people go stir crazy man. She's been locked in town for months, being protected by everyone else. Probably feeling useless/under contributing (even though everyone else see's her as indispensable and carrying more than her weight) as she watches everyone else risking their lives to protect her and gather supplies. She wanted to get/do something for her girlfriend and help possibly get the community some priceless medical supplies.

...and Eugene was pretty much doing the same, just trying to talk/psych himself up and build confidence by doing.

I could not believe how many times my whole family (not just me) exclaimed: "What the hell are you doing?!" during this episode.

Both Daryl and Rosita going to check the tree blocking the road; no one watching in the back of the truck direction.
Rosita separating herself from her group to take the tracks.
Abraham walking out and leaving Eugene to fend for himself, just 'cause he's mad. (Are we to assume he later changed his mind and followed at a distance, or something, to ensure his safety?)
Both Daryl and Rosita jumping behind the counter to look for the meds; no one watching the front. Why the hell didn't Denise go back there?!

I can cut Denise a certain amount of slack; she's not a VETERAN of being outside. But her checking for the walker in the store, alone: dumb. Her plopping down outside the store, alone: also dumb. (Remember Glenn, Maggie and Merle? Crap happens seemingly all the time, even in this reduced population world.) I get that she's trying to toughen up to be worthy but...as Clint said: "A man's (person's) got to know his limitations." I was fairly ok with Denise going after the cooler. (I totally called the orange soda being in it the minute she went after it!) It should've been a pretty simple task but she managed to bumble it up.

Oh believe me, I get the reasoning. It's the same they've used to rationalize every bit of bad writing in the show's history. But "even intelligent people can pay for their momentary carelessness in this treacherous world" ≠ "everybody does the worst thing, causing the most danger". Or at least on a better show it wouldn't. 100% of character development on this show is "I'm scared of this new world" ---> "Hm now that I'm no longer pee-your-pants level afraid I wonder what would happen if I stick my head into this wood chipper." Like, it might have been clever to have Eugene and Denise have parallel stories w/ different outcomes, if they hadn't been parallels to every single other expendable character's arc for 5 seasons.

At the very least, instead of the lady and her baby, Denise should have let out about 5 or 6 walkers. Then Daryl and Rosita leaving the only goddamn medic to trail behind? I'm sorry about Daryl in the front, Denise in the middle, and Rosita covering the rear?

And now Carol is so sick of herself that she is ready to live out in the wilds, all alone? Say goodbye to ever sleeping soundly again, eating snails, and bark, etc.

I agree about the stupidity in the writing of the episode. There were a bunch of other ways to get them from A to B without the need for everyone to be so careless. I'm not bothered she got iced, I'm bothered by all the fakeouts from stupidity. However, I was almost sure that a live severed zombie head was going to be in the cooler and bite her when she opened it (don't ask me how that would have been possible, but it would have been a cool moment) even though my head screamed orange soda.

I don't get Carol's character progression. What, you have ONE conversation with Alicia Witt, disciple of goddamned Negan, and all of the sudden you are having Morgan-level conscience issues? If I'm honest, this is like when Barney on HIMYM spent like 2 full seasons of growth as a human with regards to relationships (with Robyn) and became a better person who was in love ect....only for them to spend the last season walking the whole shebang back to square one...so Ted could have her. I mean fuck, what the hell? She went from battered housewife, to tentative contributing team member who lost her daughter, to supreme sniper badass...and now they choose to push her into pasicifst tertritory....in a goddamned zombie apocalypse? Jesus, it's bad enough Morgan is doing it (though at least he has a reason...it staved off his madness), but for Carol to do it now as well..ugh.

I am actually enjoing Carol getting the conscience as she has went full on in previous episodes and now she has had time to reflect.
