Did I just overlook a past thread? I only looked back 13 pgs.
Anyway I was trying to find a thread so I could let fans of the show know that Andy Whitfield who plays Spartacus, has died from his cancer on Sept 11, 2011. Shit that is some sad news, I found out from a thread on Theforce.net forums just last night... I feel so bad for this guy. They postponed filming season 2 so he could recover and he did the first time around, only to get sick again. So they decided to film a Prequel mini-series and made the hard decision to recast Spartacus in the hopes Andy could come back for S3. He was 39. Im bummed out now.

Yes, this is indeed sad news. He did such an excellent job season 1. I listened to some of the commentary on the dvd set and he seemed like a funny interesting dude.

Very sad news indeed. He did a great job in the role, and really made that series what it was. Just look at Camelot to see what a weak lead can do to a show.
Going to be really tough for the new guy to take over the role and have to deal with the inevitable comparisons.
But all that is trivial when we're talking about a guy passing away at 39. Sad, sad news.

Ahhh. That sucks.
He was awesome as Spartacus.
New guy looks ok, but no matter how long the series goes he'll always be "yeah, but".

I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Yeah, I'm watching. Still not quite sure about the new guy, but loving the Lucretia/Ilithyia stuff - Lucy Lawless does the slightly unhinged role very well.

I just watched the latest episode, (the fifth one). Awesome season so far. But I'm finding it harder and harder to sympathize with Spartacus' cause. Actually, after this episode, I've gotta say that of Spartacus and Glabber, Glabber is the lesser of two evils. Of course I'm rooting for Spartacus just for the entertainment of the show, but actually Spartacus is pretty despicable. I hope Oenamaeus (sp?) continues to choose not to join his cause, thanks to his latest display of wanton cruelty.

I love all three Spartacus series. It's something both my wife and I like. I like it for the blood, fighting, and titties, and she just likes it for both Spartacus actors. Although she liked Crixus in the very first one.
And I know its old, but RiP Andy. It's scary to see someone portray such a strong man on tv, then have him die from ilness. He seemed so healthy on the outside. Scary. I liked Gannikus in the middle series, but was very doubtful of someone being able to replace Andy as Spartacus. I think the new guy did well. Still missed Mr Whitfield.
I look forward to new season.

The new Spartacus has an extremely appealing voice, honestly, I'd always turn up my speakers to the max when he was talking. But acting-wise he was worse than Andy and I couldn't quite get into the second season or sympathize with Spartacus. My favorite season was the prequel Gods of the Arena, I love Gannicus.
