I've lurked on these forums for a long time, and what has ultimately driven me to create an account is Mafia! I've read so many games, and I love the idea of playing.

But I'm nervous. Most everyone seems to be a hard eyed veteran! And I'm completely inexperienced, besides reading some of the games that have gone on. I tried looking at other forums that also host Mafia, but frankly, everyone else is so... uneducated.

I guess what I'm saying is that some of you veterans must have been newbs at some point. Was your first game hard? Did you get demolished in the first day? Did you make your team lose? Should I be worried?

My first game. I had no idea about mafia. I just went in there and gave it a shot. I read what my role was and tried to play it out. I have made my teams lose so many times. Some times I even do it on purpose. One of the best learning experiences for yourself as a player is to messing something up. Getting demolished or getting yelled at by other players is all part of the game. The first day is hard for anyone. Everyone is a potential lynch target. I wouldn't be worried about it. If you happen to die on day one then the next game you you try to make it to day 2. The game is only as hard as you allow it to be. Have fun it is a fun game to play. As long as you have fun and remember that everyone (regardless of how they may sound in the moment) is having fun too. Then everything will be good.

Well, on-topic: My first mafia game I was a crucial finder role, but had no idea that finder was important and basically did nothing at all that was helpful for my team. If you put the slightest bit of effort into your game you are guaranteed to do better than my first!

I took the perhaps unwise decision of making my first mafia game a TMDI 10 game of complete chaos and confusion. Suffice to say I was almost completely lost, followed others like a good sheep, and retreated from any and all confrontation. Blessedly, my painful play was cut short by my death on the very first night, at which point I took a deep breath, considered how awesome it would be to do that again, and signed up for the next one!

I think I lasted two days in that one. From then on, while my survival rate has generally been quite high, it also seems directly proportional to the amount of chaos and confusion I sow within my own team - as you might be able to tell, I blame that first experience of Mafia, which left an indelible stain on my play. Ahem.

Played all the way back in mafia 2, me and hetan were the killers and I believe we won by sacrificing one of us near dday to coast the other through to the end.

Mafia 2? Newbie. I played in mafia 1 and I'm pretty sure I was an evil symp and had absolutely no clue what was going on.

I thought I had played more games but I haven't i'm still a newbie in many ways and in no way close to being a veteran yet. These are the game I have participated in, I do have fond memories for each of them. My first was a faction game which made it easier as everyone wasn't looking for one scum, and I had protection of sorts from my own faction.

One thing I will mention is it ias highly addictive. My ultimate goal is to get Tapper lynched by making a good case. It hasn't happened yet but it will happen one day.

There are two rules in MAFIA:

1.) Never vote Night.

2.) See Rule 1.


Me, I got lynched Day One my first game for voting Night, though I take a certain pride in knowing that my stupidity led to the tactic known as "Culture hunting," with which you'll become acquainted if you play a faction game.

Played since mafia 25 (also Grief's first game), where I was a roleless inno and becuase of a mod-kill, I ended up being Bubba's paired healer. I was terrified the entire game long. Then came Venge's Aliens and I got a kick-ass role there as the Awesome Marine Lt., revealed at some point and was happy and chuffed although iirc, we still lost as town

yes it was. i'm still angry at the fact that JA was un-infectable, btw. that was almost as bad as Cicero.

my first game... I was a symp, I was terrified of screwing up, so I did very little, letting my scum overlord (GardenGnome) lead the whole game.

my second game, I was the only roleless inno and got killed night 1.
the game after that I was one of three killers, but got majorly screwed over when both regular and insane finders did a find on our godfather (who was supposed to CF as inno) on the same night.

i've been plodding along with very mixed success ever since. I suppose the lesson here is: every player has their own voice and style. discover yours, and enjoy the game.

Come to think of it I've gotten a lot of insane roles up through the years. I got by far the coolest role in the first Spycraft game too, but I got speed lynched during the last 30 minutes of day 1 so never got to use it
