It drops tomorrow for the US but the 26th for the UK! It doesn't matter since everyone could preload it from Saturday or whatever regardless so someone will do a Portal 2 and crack it, host a video of the ending, summarise all the twists and post it somewhere completely inoccuous for me to stumble over and be spoiled by. So I'm ignoring anything with the word game even near it til Friday, when I won't be doing anything but playing it, obviously.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

For some reason I was assuming that EU and the US released media on the same day.

Learn something new every day.

I'm going to try to get some time to play it but I might not have any until thursday evening anyway.

Edit: First reviews are all glowing, especially if you enjoyed the first one.

Wikipedia's Reception Paragraph Says:

Quote

Deus Ex Human Revolution has received critical acclaim in both previews and early pre-release reviews. Reviewers who had access to the game in February 2011 praised the open-ended experience of the game, similar to the first Deus Ex,[31][32] the importance of conversations in the missions,[33] and also the depth of the storyline.[34] PC Gamer UK gave the game a score of 94 and the Editor's Choice, describing it as a game that "puts almost everything else in the genre to shame." [35] Official Xbox Magazine UK gave the game a 10/10.[36] Official PlayStation Magazine UK gave it an 8/10, citing frustrations in ammo quantities, load times, and boss fights.[37] Game Masters gave the game a score of 94%, saying it was "an incredible piece of game-making; it's the revival Deus Ex always deserved" and concluding with calling the game "a once-in-a-generation kind of game, and the first game in a decade to do everything the original Deus Ex did, and to do almost all of it better."

I stayed up waaaaaay to late playing this game last night.

Was extremely tempted to call in sick today. Enjoying it. Even the hacking mini-game is still fun.

So far the only real complaint I've heard is that there are boss fights in the game that you can not avoid, stealth around or handle with non violence or even non-lethal violence. Personally I don't care because I am the brute force type of player but the stealth fans are pretty annoyed by this. Give it a couple months and the mod community will probably have solved this problem, but still, something of an oversight. But then again, I am sure storywise there is a reason for these encounters.

I'm pretty sure I know who 3 of the bosses are going to be in the game, and did from even before the credits rolled.

Hopefully a couple of twists along the way :yes

I'm stuck in the second floor of a police station. I need to get into the basement but the only way down is through the 'bullpen' with all the cops in it.

I'm also not supposed to be inside...

PS - using the stun gun to take out cameras and lasers is awesome and I did it accidentally the first time.

I never played Invisible War because it's widely considered a step down from Deus Ex, which was too incredible for a disappointing sequel. And by disappointing I mean less than awesome. Good but not great just isn't enough. I probably sound fussy but I loved Deus Ex. I'm hoping this one will be worthy, and from all the buzz around it seems it might be.

edit:

took this list of critical reviews from Gamespot, which gave it 8.5. All those high scores look promising!

And the video review:

Looks positive overall. Hopefully the apparently weak AI can be patched? I agree with him about the boss fights. I don't like the idea of being forced to adopt a certain play style at predetermined points in a game that's meant to be about playing how you want to play it and otherwise lets you do so.

I watched a 70 minute Quick Look of the game on Giant Bomb. It looks really good, well designed, very polished, plenty of atmosphere. But it was very apparent that the combat is not exactly mindblowing, ammo seems scarce and the AI is dumb as a brick. Not that the AI bothers me that much. Stupid AI in combat usually just means that I feel like a God when I am kicking their ass with ease.

Yea I have it on normal and I got frustrated after 3 hours at the police station without being able to get to where I needed to go so I emptied that thing out. If you wait for the enemy to 'set', you can set your target where their head will be (while you are still in cover) and just 1 pistol bullet them in the head.

If anyone figures out how to get into the morgue without talking your way in (as I've not upgraded that yet) or hacking the side door (as I'm not level 3 on there yet), I would appreciate you PMing or spoilering it for me.

One other thing that bugs me. Only your 'base' energy cell recharges. But your abilities will use your other energy cells first, which dont recharge and you need to eat granola bars to get them back. I would think it would use the 'base' cell first, and then if you need more energy after that is depleted you would use your 'reserve' cells that don't recharge automatically.

Got it, played it, loved it.

Only gripe so far - inventory management. Bought the special edition, so I've started with a few bonus guns. Instant inventory space crisis and I don't want to spend my first upgrade points on a bigger backpack. That, and ammo and software take up inventory space. And grenades don't stack!!!

Good points - everything else.

Actually finding the body horror a bit hard to deal with. The augmentations are pretty horrific when you pause to think about it.

Spoiler

I have no idea why I never took reflex booster or wall punching before. Five nukes and a praxis kit just hanging around behind walls in the second hub's sewers! Knocking out one of the many many pairs of guards littering the game instantly! So useful. Also hacking everything and never using a password is the way to go.

OK, so I finished it.

Spoiler

I shall take a break from the game for a while then do a new runthrough to use all the weapons I never used before, like the tranq rifle and the revolver and the pepsi gun and whatnot, and try out a no hacking aug run. That should cut out about 20% of loot available and save out points for carrying heavy things, jumping high, knocking out two people at once, punching walls in, making my metal sweat explode out of my pores and making war while invisible. OK maybe not all of those at once. Oh, and did anyone finish with less augmentations missing than me? I'm sure I missed a couple of praxis kits here and there but only lacking ten augments for the complete collection is pretty sweet, the other two people I've checked with had 12 left to go and they burnt through and had cheap cheating preorder items respectively.
