No, I was saying that Soulcatcher did have her own faction, and that the "rumor" part of the scene might have been meant to forshadow the death of Soulcatcher the leader. However, the rumor about the Limper hasn't come true (to our knowledge.

I already said awhile ago that "of the soulcatcher" line on Korabas' CF implied a faction.

With only 2 likely trains underway, I dont want to waste my vote. I would prefer to go another way, but we need a lynch, hopefully there will be a CF this time from P-S. I think Telann is the lesser of 2 evils. Anthras hasn't had much of substance and some low posting.

Compared to Tellan, I'm a raging torrent of contribution.

And why the hell would there be a CF from Path Finder, when there hasn't been before? What kind of blatant ass-covering assertion is that?

And all votes against are by people who provided little or no justification, and immediately ran off afterwards, with Tellan hiding behind Korbas.

Don't be so touchy, you weren't lynched after all. Of two choices, I went for you. There could have been a CF from PS, we didn't know if there weren't any by plan or someone was blockinf CFs as a power. Now we do, I think. I don't beleive this is "blatant ass-covering" - what needs to be covered?

This seems like a good thing to look into from wiki:

Raker - appeared in the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction (August 1982). This was a pre-publication excerpt of chapter three from The Black Company, with slight editing differences to make it stand alone as a short story.

Still looking for more info, but has anyone read this story.

Ok, from the Glen Cook Wiki:

Raker
A member of the Circle of Eighteen, one of the Rebel leaders in the war against the Lady; he is a tall, lean old man. His base of operations is in Forsberg, where he persistently outmaneuvers and defeats the Limper time and again. The Black Company is finally moved into the area, and Elmo and Silent manage to get a few of Raker's hairs during a patrol. One-Eye, Goblin and Soulcatcher use them to create a trap in nearby Roses, a table with treasure piled underneath and a stone on top with a space for Raker's head. The stone bears the inscription "LET HE WHO WOULD CLAIM THIS WEALTH SEAT THE HEAD OF THE CREATURE RAKER WITHIN THIS THRONE OF STONE ". The hairs enable the Company sorcerers to key the trap so only Raker's real head will release the enchantment. Raker becomes a hunted man, cast out of the Circle; he refuses to step down, making two vain attempts to destroy the trap. Eventually, discredited, he is tracked down in the snow by Raven and Croaker, who kill him.

While we should be wary of over-relying upon matching the books to the game ... I don't see how Raker being aligned with the Lady makes much sense.

Sorry, another interesting text, this time on the Circle of Eighteen. I have spoiler-ized for those who don't want too much information in this game:

Another item to get the names in front of us (Green = maybe in the game as a player and still alive; Red = dead according to Korbas):

The Ten Who Were Taken; The New Taken
Many generations before the first novel, these Ten powerful wizards were magically bound to the will of the Dominator:

  • Soulcatcher
  • The Limper
  • The Howler
  • Shapeshifter
  • Stormbringer
  • Bonegnasher
  • The Hanged Man
  • Nightcrawler
  • Moonbiter
  • The Faceless Man
Then, between the first and the third novels, the Lady replaced those of the Ten who were slain with the following:

  • Whisper
  • Journey
  • Feather
  • Blister
  • Scorn
  • Benefice
  • The Creeper
  • Learned

And finally the wikipedia Black Company List of characters:

Members of The Black Company

[edit]From the Northern Campaigns
  • The Captain: Leader of the Black Company.
  • The Lieutenant: His second in command.
  • Croaker [most likely just PS's role]: Company's doctor and annalist. As annalist, his is the voice that narrates the stories. Though no specific rank is mentioned, it is likely he ranks as a mid-level officer.
  • Silent: Moderately talented wizard named for the fact that he never speaks.
  • Goblin: Moderately talented wizard named because of his short stature and his facial features.
  • Tom-Tom: Moderately talented wizard named for the instruments he carries and plays to punctuate his speech. Brother of One-Eye.
  • One-Eye: Moderately talented wizard named for the fact that he has only one good eye. Brother of Tom-Tom.
  • Elmo: Sergeant and Croaker's best friend.
  • Murgen: Standard bearer.
  • Mercy: Platoon leader.
  • Pickles: Company quartermaster.
  • Otto: Veteran mercenary.
  • Hagop: Veteran mercenary and scout.
  • Raven: Northern recruit of former affluence.
  • Candy: Veteran mercenary.
  • Pawnbroker: Veteran mercenary.
  • Kingpin: Veteran mercenary known for laziness.
  • Marron Shed: Inn owner from Juniper.

Ok, so the greens, if all present account for 8 of the 13 remaining players. Not listed above but probably player roles include: White Rose, Bormaz (from the OP), and more nameless Rebels (if that is all the info Korbas received on the dead rebel players).

Let's say that there is only one Rebel left to keep them on this list, which then accounts for 11 of the 13 players. Since we haven't heard of any rebel wizards (correct?) I would guess the last two roles are part of the Circle for completeness sake.

That leads me to guess the following faction breakdown:

Soul-catcher's (Lady's) Faction [up to 8 players]
Leadership (1st = Lady, 2nd = Soulcatcher) [2 players]
Taken (The Limper) [1 player]
Misc (Bormaz) [1 player]
BC members [up to 4 players]

Dominator's Faction [1 player]
Leadership (Dominator) [1 player]

Rebellion Faction [2 players]
Leadership (White Rose) [1 player]
The Circle [2 players]
Unnamed Rebels [1 player]

These seem like very uneven teams, which can potentially work if there is 1) a lot of cross recruiting with the Taken, BC, Circle, and Rebels being fair game and/or 2) the smaller factions have a lot of tricks up their sleeves such as a superpower Dom and WR.

I think that the BC is actually smaller (death scene name dropping for story's sake) and the Circle peeps include more players. I also think it is possible the Lady or Soulcatcher don't exist are are just another name place holder.

Ok, this is a long post. I'll back off for a sec.

Ok, One-Eye is marked. I'm a little confused then what to do with your comment Mockra?

WR can't lead the Rebellion. she's part of BC, and when she becomes teh Captain of BC, BC BECOMES the Rebellion.

Does this mean that the Rebellion is leaderless or could one of the Circle be a rebellion leader?

Thanks both for help clarifying things.

And Circle names:
Whisper
Feather
Journey
Raker
Harden
Roper
Tamarask
Sidle
Moth
Linger
Trinket

And why a soldier of the Lady. That is very odd especially with so many names available. And does this mean the Rebel leader is Raker and not White Rose.

I am very confused, but still wondering how much of that is Korbas. Still thinking.

Looks like, according to that paragraph, Raker is part of the Circle and the Rebellion allied against the Lady.

Not that it's entirely important ... but did anyone even else notice that Liosan is still in the game?

Right from what you are saying each faction has a leader so unless we get a name then they are low down on the pecking order within a faction? So the lady is still out there, the dominator is still out there. have i missed anything?

is the dominator is trying to get control using the rebels and i'm guessing the lady is trying to stop him with soulcatcher as her ally? or am i totally in the wrong frame of mind here?

what i get from wikki is that the lady and the taken(soulcatcher) are on one side, the rebels are on another, and the dominator is manipulating the rebels but the rebels are not on his side

I, for one, don't think I have the relationships figured out between possible character's links to factions. CF of names dont mean a lot to me since I haven't read the books, and they seem to be confusing those people who have read the books. All that leaves is pinky's claims of faction name to go on.

Mockra was the only one without a name, right? My first thought was maybe that meant he was recruited, but I don't see why a character would lose their name just because they were recruited, so I'm guessing Mockra wasn't important.

@ Anthras - maybe he's the Dominator, and since he's still "asleep" he can only post a couple of times a day. ;)
