It's been hit and miss. We didn't get it on Gamelon (Marc Vestabule - Amnion) either. Milos Taverner = Amnion. Angus Thermowaffle = Trumpet (unless he was recruited).

Characters-wise, we've got Morn, Nick, Warden, Hashi, Min and Godsen left. Canonically, none of them were ever on the Amnion-side, so it would make sense for them not to be Amnion starters.

I don't think it's a matter of first/second place, people either win or they don't. Not sure what the Amnion VC is - probably kill everybody, while the Trumpet VC is killing Amnion, so getting rid of Amnion should make a Trumpet and UMPC victory, while waiting and dying/getting recruited will eventually make an Amnion (and UMPC?) victory.
