Finished Cowboy Bebop.

Movie was great. Series ending was as good as it could have been..
Spoiler

So good. No filler, every episode well balanced and entertaining. Will rewatch soon I think.

Samurai Champloo next.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Oh dear. This is unquestionably one of those stupidly emotional scenes in anime - it's great.

FMA:B is excellent all around. It starts off a bit slow and has some small personal pet peeves in it but it just keeps getting better and better as it goes on. Really makes use of the 60-odd episodes without feeling like it's dragging or filler either. Enjoy the ride.

Back from some time away with the new wife.

Current seasonals, fully updated:

The Ancient Magus' Bride (S+ tier)
RWBY Vol. 5
Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Konohana Kitan
King's Game
Code: Realize
Dies Irae
Love Is Like a Cocktail
A Sister's All You Need (as a writer this one actually hits somewhere close to home)
Blend-S
Kino's Journey
Juni Taisen
Sengoku Night Blood

So overall it's an oddly busy season for me.

I dropped Black CloveeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEeer. Main reason was the main character constantly screaming the last word of a senteeeEEEEEEEEEEEEeeence. It got really annoyyiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiing. Only managed one episooooOOOOOOOoooode.

I've also been watching through Nanana's Hidden Treasure during downtime.

I just watched some clips of that. Wow. How the heck did the director/sound supervisor/whatever ever think that THAT was a good idea?!

I really like that show. It kinda has way too many things going on and doesn't go anywhere (from the sounds of it, the LNs don't go anywhere either, it's not just the anime), but I really like the feel and the characters are fun.

Can't work out the multi quote thing so:

1) it's fun and silly, I'm enjoying it

2) I don't knoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3) I get the feeling that you'll never find out who actually killed Nanana, which sucks, but again it's good fun and the characters are all good.

I actually watched the first two episodes. The drama part looks good and well-setup and will probably be a really chilling or tearjerker sorta thing.

I'd speculate that the main character's little brother will turn out to really be a little sister with some traumatic backstory or something.

BUT

The erotic scenes are so ludicrous and so clumsily shoved in that I can't take this show seriously at all and it just feels crude. The over-the-top dream sequence at the start... okay, fine. But the "Oh, I can't write books unless I'm naked and also I need to fondle my friend" is too dumb and on-the-nose to me.

If the books go on for 10 years maybe. Seems like the author wanted this to go oooonnnnnnnn. After the opening chapters (which is most of what the anime covers) they seem to settle into a puzzle-of-the-month-plus-hijinks format without a lot of progress on the over-arching plotlines. At least that's what I got from the volume descriptions on the wiki.

Four episodes into Siscon now. The lewd scenes are certainly overdone but it's genuinely funny and rather self-deprecating in that humour. And as a writer, I can sort of identify with the main character in that sometimes you want to go totally flywheel loose and add some ridiculous stuff, but you really can't, and you really shouldn't.

I'll add some thoughts on my other seasonals when I have a bit more time as it's work now.

I can get behind that. I just don't think it is going to work when the serious plot hits a climax and the show wants you to forget all the over-the-top nude scenes so it can try to be all emotional and dramatic.

As for my current watches:

Dragon Ball Super - the last few episodes have been a ton of fun. Goku, Jiren, Hit, and Caluifa have all been having great fights and scenes. You have to kinda throw out any sense of reasonable logic and just enjoy the spectacle (like, why are Krillin and co. getting so excited about "This is the power of Super Saiyan Two?!" ... dudes, you saw Super Saiyan Three in the Buu saga and you just saw Goku going Super Saiayn GOD/Blue like two minutes ago!), and also you have to not pay attention to how much the animation repeats... but still it's a really fun spectacle!

Ancient Magus Bride - I dunno, I'm actually kinda bored with this one so far. It keeps hinting at dire portents, but all of those portents *should* already have been explained because Chise should be asking so many more questions. Same goes for the marriage talk. There's so much "down-time" in every episode that it's grating on me that everyone has just let all these weird statements go unexplained for so long.

Food Wars - Super entertaining, and it seems like it's about to have some kind of plot twist or revelation or something, based on the way the last episode ended. Or maybe it's just Soma's dad suddenly showing up again.

Animegataris - Four episodes in, and it's cute. And the fandom-talk humour is funny. But why do they keep implying there's some bigger thing going on and doing nothing with it? I really want this show to GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!!!

Inuyashiki - Not sure if I talked about it earlier, but I saw the first episode. Very weird, but has a lot of potential to be an interesting and bizarre superhero-like show. Haven't got any more of it yet.

And there's a bunch of others I wanted to scope out but haven't gotten a chance to view yet.

Ok so my other seasonals as they stand:

Ancient Magus Bride - I agree that it's a slow build, HOWEVER bear in mind that it's a 24 episode run, so expect the pace to be closer to Sakura Quest. I'm really enjoying it - the art, the dialogue, and most of all the music / sound design. Oh my.

Sengoku Night Blood - seems like a reverse harem with vampires / werewolves and the like in a weird parallel history. It's decent enough, and the action scenes are pretty fun.

Blend-S - the Meme Queen of this season. And for a good reason. It's again genuinely funny, with enough going on per episode to keep things interesting.

Juuni Taisen (Zodiac War) - Now we get to the violence. It has a semi-predictable formula in that whoever the episode is about will usually wind up dead at the end of said episode. The premise doesn't make sense, but then it doesn't really have to. WELCOME TO QUAKE 3 ARENA.

Love is Like a Cocktail - a cutesy little 3-minute time filler. Not really much else to say.

King's Game - yet more blood. I do enjoy me a bit of gore (anyone who's read my book will attest), but this seems to ask after how far people are willing to go to save themselves.

Kino's Journey - generally pretty relaxed. The world doesn't make any sense, though. I'll carry it on unless it really irritates me somehow.

RWBY Vol. 5 - It's RWBY, you know what you're getting. I enjoyed the currently released Volumes (1, 2 and 4) so I felt semi-obliged to carry on. The first two episodes have been enjoyable.

I might be missing one, but we shall do a see of it.

So, I haven't watched much new lately, but as it's kind of my last hope for a really, truly good Fate / Stay Night adaptation that even manages to scratch the awesome of Fate Zero, I just thought I would drop by to fanboy over the upcoming release of... *deep breath* Fate / Stay Night: Heavens Feel I. presage flower.
Which is apparently rating a theatrical release here in Australia!
I am appropriately hyped, so if there are any news reports of giant golden beams of energy splitting apart cinemas in Brisbane in mid November then it's probably just me being severely disappointed. XD

If the first three Fate/Stay Night adaptations have been poop, what makes you think this will be any better? Sure, you can hope, but if you go into this with hyped up expectations it can't help but disappoint, right?

Basically true, but the ufotable run at Unlimited Blade Works was much better than either previous adaption.

More importantly, this is the Heaven's Feel route, which is the best source material imnsho. Given ufotable have a decent track record between making the best Stay Night run, AND doing Zero, I am willing to hope.

Still could be terrible, but I'm willing to take the disappointment. XD

"best" source material, but how different is it really from SN/UBW ? Is Shirou still going to be insufferably naive?
