Apologies Silencer. I don't have an equivalent to funimation accessible from SA. We do get Showmax and Netflix but the viewing options are extremely limited. Little witch academia I'm watching on Netflix.

I make a point to support official content when it's available, It's the main reason I lag behind on most of the more exciting shows when they air or revert to the manga volumes available at my bookstore rather than wait the few months required.

Will be more responsible in future.

Yeah, no worries. I know it can be a pain to find subbed anime at times, and SA gets a pretty raw deal (I also can't imagine if one were to look for non-English subs or dubs outside of certain countries how hard *that* might be), just thought I'd bring it up.

Oh, and for the record, I am not counting my above post as a warning or anything of the sort, the conversation was organic and not done to flout the rules (plus, as noted, I'm not a huge fan of the rule myself, and have definitely been guilty of creatively wording posts on the subject XD).

Don't worry Dolmen, I think we all understand that legal access in SA and many other countries is awful.

For the USA/Canada forum members it's a lot better but even then there are still problems. You would need to subscribe to all four of Funimation, Crunchyroll, Amazon Video Prime and Netflix to get access to all shows since everything is exlcusive. Plus, all the platforms have various issues like Netflix releases being very late, Amazon subtitling being horrendous, Funimation only offering dubs sometimes, or Crunchyroll's continuous attempts to downgrade their video quality.

I think we all know the reality of the situation these days, and be realistic about it - no one expects a forum member from Bulgaria or whatever to use a region-spoofing VPN to pretend to be in the U.S. and have a subscription to all four U.S. licensors.

I think Silencer will be happy so long as we aren't outright naming illicit sites, posting links, etc.

Yeah, it's crazy. Though I believe Funimation and Crunchyroll are/were combining forces somehow? I can't remember exactly what it entailed but it was going to make things a bit easier I think.
Still does nothing to alleviate the bullshit licensing issues most of the world faces (in the global age, it irks me that not only is there regional licensing, but dvd and blu-ray still have region locks! What on earth sort of stupidity is that?), but I'll take what I can get.

Not only that but im pretty sure we've shared websites on this exact thread somewhere on more than one occasion.

COuld very well be the powers that be don't care for this thread of just don't bother enforcing that rule.(why would they, not like this thread requires moderation its a bunch of weebs talking about anime, not like the serious discussions thread)

In other news:

I think i am hooked on MHA. Wouldnt call it a great show but it certainly has its charm.

Yes, that's it exactly. It's the feeling behind the show, the whatever-you-call-it that just sends all the dopamine levels soaring at key points. I know at a glance MHA looks like nothing new and it's really not doing that much different.

The thing is how well it all works when brought together. The artwork, music, pacing, characters and plot just blend into a crisply baked biscuit of goodness. I can't say I feel the same for other shows that do a lot better in a particular area or combination thereof.

For example I love AoT story and setting but I'm pretty meh about Eren or I loooooove Luffy and most of the Strawhats as a crew of characters but I'm not 100% behind the art and certain other ideas around setting.

Even One Punch Man hits a few misses for me with some of the gags and a few bathos heavy scenes that could have been better if left to be the awesome moments they were.

MHA lets itself flow from beat to beat and provides the right balance of funny, epic, moving and average. I feel the author knows how to contrast the scale of events to humanize them.

D'rek is quite correct, it's still very early but so far I think the second season has kept up with the fun offered by the first and we're well into the story now so I feel some consistency.
It'd be interesting to see if the pressure will force a more generic approach to power creep.

I think HunterxHunter has done a good job keeping it in check and I think most Shounen author have recognized the success of this approach. Still would we love a show like DBZ if there wasn't the endless evolution of the super Saiyan to debate?

The rule has been referenced several times in this thread in the past. It probably depends a lot on whether D'rek or myself are paying attention to the thread at the time. But you should read the whole Code of Conduct. -_-

Further on with New Game!. The season 1 opening is a prime example of why I love J-Pop, it's been stuck in my head for days now. Also made some progress with Gamers and Fastest Finger. I still haven't looked at Knight HAS and Magic, and I don't know if I'll continue with Touken Ranbu for now.

i should....

but every time I've read the thing i've proceeded to forget about it within less than an hour.

Also the fact i don't consider myself an active member of the community, not really worth the time. It's worked thus far.

Also i just realised D was a mod. LOL

So I found out that the Funimation site pretty much stopped any free streaming they had going (at least for shows I care about) when they did their deal with Crunchy Roll a little while back.

So I signed up for Funimation Premium (it's only $6/month) so I could continue to watch ONE PIECE (and finally finish STEINS;GATE, and a few other shows)...and their app is TERRIBLE. Like really, really counterintuitive. On my PS4 using the toggles for anything is a mugs game as the sensitivity on the lists is insane, so you can't scroll down easily without jumping sideways to another season or episode...it's not un-usable, but it's not remotely as intuitive as it should be. The Mobile app on my iPad was bad because it's literally locked into horizontal display (which is fine), but only one way. So my iPad case which allows me to prop to up to watch things, is not facing the ONE horizontal direction this app allows...so I can't prop it up to watch things...making it utterly, and completely useless to me.

So I've been opening the eps I want to watch on the actual Funimaiton site and watching those on my iPad instead through the browser. It's fine....but not great either. I wish it would intuitively skip openings and logos and shit like Netflix will do when you're bingeing...but nope, I gotta watch the Toei logo, the Funimation logo, and the entire opening theme before EVERY ep. Skipping ahead is counterintuitive because the website takes so long to buffer the eps.

Honestly, the whole thing has really pissed me off...if you're going to have a streaming PREMIUM subscription service...make the damned apps work well. This feels like frigging amateur hour. They wonder why people pirate stuff....ugh.

Anyways, it allowed me to finally get all the way through the (overlong, but excellent) Skypeia Arc on OP. A very good arc, but is about 5-6 eps too long. The next arc (which is a filer arc) was fun though, with the Marines. I'm now a few eps into Water 7 and this one is shaping up to be a great one! Oh, and the animation got another quality boost between Seasons 3 and 4 which is nice.

Yup! There really is no platform that actually gets the technical side "right" yet. Very frustrating/sad.

Whaaaa? How are you only up to the start of the Water 7 Saga? I thought you were posting about Marineford like... a year ago?

I stopped watching for a LONG time as having a kid basically made it impossible to get too deep into to.

Also, I was never farther than Skypeia Arc (which I was alternating between Manga and Anime). Nowhere near Marineford yet.

Okay! My bad -_-

So, latest dragon ball episode -- they're really teasing out the Jiren stuff, eh? I'm glad Kale wasn't simply knocked out after one berserk bit, I'm actually really liking the Goku/Caula/Kale character dynamics. And Universe 2 magic girl hype for the next episode!

Oh are you guys actually into Super now? Last I checked most people here were kinda meh on it. I love Cauli and Kale so much, and there's a certain amount of in-fandom anticipation (especially among the hardcore) that Vegeta will job to Ribrianne. I don't want him to; dear god, the fandom would explode.

Anyone know what's up with Daisuki? Seems to be ded, or soon to be ded, but some users have said they got a message saying Super would be excluded from their termination of service. I have no idea what that means; surely they wouldn't keep the website open just for one show? Crunchyroll expanded their coverage area for Super to basically match up with Daisuki's a couple of months ago, and I wonder if that competition did them in, or if they got bought out, or what.

re: Funimation, I canceled my subscription recently when *cough cough* broadcast audio appeared and I finally broke down and sacrificed some disk space. DB/Z was all I used Funimation for, and only rarely to consult things, so they got a couple of years' worth of sub money from me when I was maybe watching an hour's worth of video every month, average. Their app may be terrible but the website (my preferred means of consultation) was much worse.

Agreed, the website is worse. Last night, I figured I'd just prop my iPad up on a pillow and watch through the app, and while it was still annoying it was a much less stressful experience than their website.

As long as I'm getting time watching multiple eps of OP, and some other scattered stuff (STEINS;GATE, AC) I'll keep the sub....but once I'm caught up with OP I'll probably reevaluate the $6 per month.

We were pretty 'meh' on it back in the Future Trunks/Zamasu arc, but liking the post-Zamasu filler and multi-Universe stuff a lot more. And I might have been hyping it up a couple pages ago and convinced some people to get into it (I don't think Silencer or Dolmen are caught up yet though).

Brianna beating Vegeta sounds fine by me. With Universe 2 being almost entirely unshown so far, I want the three magical girls (and the rest of U2) to be shockingly strong out of nowhere and mix up the Goku-Hit-Jiren top 3 assumptions altogether! (And then I want Damos to do the same thing yet again, too)

It was already bought out a few years ago from its original owners, IIRC, and now it is going to be shutting down completely soon (later this year I think?). No idea about any exceptions to that.

Learned via New Game!! today that streaming an episode on data is about 700mb. Ooof. Good thing I have about 10gb available this month total... Glad I picked this series up, it's a lot of fun.

Missus is working late so I might catch up to a few weeklies and see if I can find me some PP.
