This is very helpful D,

Will jump in based on the recommendations and report back if I have any questions!

I have yet to find anything I'm super interested in this cour. after the Boku no Hero S2 "finale"

Not just questions! You have to report back with reactions, too!

I don't think Hero Academia S2 is finished yet. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's continuing during the summer (though there wasn't a new episode this past weekend...).

... made a hard turn to the right and started watching little witch academia.

It's so damn interesting to see Trigger do something so different from Kill la kill and yet in-sync stylistically.

I wonder what Trigger would do with something in the direction of a Hard SF like Ghost in the shell or Jinroh.

anyways its great stuff, I'm gonna review it when I'm done, Just 6 more episodes to go and 2 movies.

Cool, I'll be curious to hear what you think of LWA after you finish!

I don't think Trigger could ever make a hard sci-fi though. Magic and over-the-top physics/science is like their founding principle. them making a gritty hard-sci-fi show would be like a bear laying an egg.

I don't know why exactly, but the first episode of Welcome to the Ballroom is being premiered early on Twitch.tv of all places... in 20 minutes (and again in 50 minutes).

So I finished WorldEnd. Too many feels near the end - that was brutal on so many levels.

Aho-girl ep 1 was absolutely dumb as fuck, but I still found myself laughing at it.

Ok just a short interlude,

I watched Your Name last night.

What a stunningly beautiful story.

I mean I literally laughed tears then teared laughing.

Me too and me too!

Apparently it has now become the top-selling movie in Japan of all time, too (it was already the highest-grossing anime film internationally, but in just Japan Spirited Away, Titanic and Frozen were still higher until recently).

Yup, definitely on the feels train. Hurry up and release on DVD, dammit!

I'm super glad it is doing well - Makoto Shinkai deserves it, and hopefully it means we'll keep seeing more anime released worldwide, too.

Ehhhhh, I don't know if I'd go that far. I wish Shinkai well and all, but I kinda hope he's not the "next big name" - or at least not the only next big name - because all his works are rooted in adolescence (which he's said in interviews is his intention, IIRC). Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I feel like since the vast, vast majority of TV anime is already rooted in adolescence it'd be great if the dominant big-name in films could be something more... adult. I think it'd help with bolstering the general public opinion of anime, too... especially since the current/previous big name of Miyazaki/Ghibli is known for making films rooted in childhood, and Disney/Dreamworks are always making films for young audiences, too.

I struggle to think of the name of a single uber succesful "adult" animation let alone director. I guess Katsuhiro Otomo and Akira? you want anime to fall back to those glory days? The sci-fi sector of anime seems to have hit a lull recently which is a shame. Some of the best Anime I've seen were a nice weird meld of Sci-fi/fantasy

If we talked mangaka sure there are a few brilliant artists and writers but the adolescent group is the pay dirt.

The animation industry just tends to grab a ton more adolescents. I dont see something like a second Evangelion taking on Your Name and coming off better at the box office for this pre-existing tendancy.

I will troll a few Anime/Manga lists, see if anything decent in Seinen might pop up as a "breakaway" movie. I too would really like to see a rise in Adult focused Anime movies.

Yeah, other than Akira and Ghost in the Shell there hasn't been any uber successful (internationally) adult anime films, but then again other than Miyazaki and Your Name I don't think there's been any uber successful (internationally) non-adult anime films, either?

But we have had good adult films/directors post-Akira/GitS : Satoshi Kon, Takeshi Koike (Redline, Jigen's Gravestone), plus maybe Masaaki Yuasa (The Night is Long Walk On Girl) and Sunao Katabuchi (In This Corner of the World), depending on if they continue making adult films. Also: Sword of the Stranger.

I don't mind if Shinkai and his adolescent movies get a big spotlight, but I hope they can share and that licensors will try to build up some awareness/excitement for more adult films like the above. It'd be a shame for the post-Miyazaki era to just be Shinkai/CoMix films being hyped up internationally as pretty much the only anime films worth releasing internationally to a general audience and all the rest being ignored, like more or less happened with Ghibli.

Spot on!

in the spirit of how accurate this is.

Whats everyone watching:

Katsugeki:good action show thus far.

Kakegurui:idk if this is good or not. Best gambling anime is hands down Kaiji and i don't see this show usurping it. ALso not a fan of some of the animation perks.

Fate apocrypha: i guess im a sucker for type moon stuff.

Jikan no shihaisha: Looks alright, good action, character interactions are solid so far.

Vatocam loselo cjpislama" Watcjed 1 episode. Mystery not really my genre.

Shoukoku no Altair: Promising, animation reminds me of Arslan Senki. Im curious where this show is going

I've heard very good things about if from my mates who watch anime.

Aho-Girl is absolute genius. It's stupid slapstick comedy that doesn't pretend to be anything but. Aoi Yuuki as the MC's voice actor is godly as well, especially as she's gone with a voice quite similar to Platinum the Trinity (who she also voices).

So far:

Kakegurui - couldn't get into it, just didn't find it all that interesting.

Fate apocrypha - watching for now, but seems like a poor man's Fate/Zero.

Youkai apartment - first episode was fairly fun and cute, though this could wind up being just like every other "goofballs living together" type show, and therefore boring.

oh god I've really let my attention to detail go.

I think altair has the highest ceiling of all the shows mentioned.

I'm watching Kakegurui, I liked it. feels like a blend of prison school and Death Parade which sort of works for me in an odd way.

Still loving Little witch academia, Boku No Hero Academia has been Interesting aswell.

My DBZ watch has been mostly catch up. I enjoy the story, D'rek the guide is awesome!
There's a glaring difference in tone between Super and GT. Not better just clearly different.

I enjoy Vegeta more in super. TFS needs to appoint a new team to handle Super exclusively. The Vegeta material they did release was pure cut diamond.

This season? Not so much to be honest, as of yet.

Sakura Quest is continuing on, this episode was good but had some utter cringe in that foreign tourists (American and Spanish) showed up... And what language do traitor colonials speak? Yup. ENGURISHU DESU. Se we had some godawful gratuitous Engrish going on, the highlight of which was 'please wedding me!'.

I watched episode one of Centaur's Worries (I think it's called?), seemed ok but rather basic in 'slightly odd student in a high school setting'.

Aho-Girl is god tier comedy, quick ten minute blasts of ridiculousness in the vein of Takeshi's Castle.

Tsuredure Children was passable, I guess. Mostly just teens being awkward with romance. Not hugely interesting, also only ten minutes a pop.

NTR was something I picked up on the art style. I didn't know quite what I was going in for, in truth. What initially started as something that seemed like gratuitous fanservice got VERY dark indeed and seems now to be more a tale of escaping from abuse.

I have Knight Has (fucking apostrophe) and Magic on my queue but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

I think the tourists were ALL spanish (and apparently speaking very good spanish), but english was the common language that the spanish tourists and japanese locals could both speak (brokenly). The 'please wedding me' was definitely one of the local Manoyama guys trying to pick up one of the spanish tourists.

Awww you're spoiling the fun! Even so, the entire scene had me in stitches because of how All Your Base it was.

SQ does make me feel things, though, being someone who is displaced from family by distance. Glad it caught my eye.

DBS - Well, Silencer will be happy :apt2:

And OMG Princess Principal is FANTASTIC!!! Y'all need to watch this! Victorian London costumes and sets, spies whacking dudes, backstabbing, secret backstories, etc, and the fact that the main cast are high school girls is not a problem like I thought it might be, it actually works and has a real reason for it.

Also, the opening song is sooooooo goooooooood:
