Dragon Ball Super's inter-universe royal rumble has finally begun this weekend. Personally, I'm cheering for Universe 2 - they have giants, magical girls, a Yardrat (the aliens that taught Goku how to teleport), space-grandpa, and a yokai/vampire woman.

Ningen being... squid/tentacle monster?

Nah, none of that so far. Though with Dragon Ball you never know for sure... lots of unexpected transformations could happen. I think a squid monster is more likely to come from Universe 9, the anthropomorphic universe.

He means humans. Ningen is Japanese for human/person.

Though frankly I would love for there to be many universes which have vastly more powerful regular humans, in order to make Krillin and Yamcha feel more inadequate. >.>

(I am not up to date on DB Super, in case there are said people.)

Ohhh. Well in that case... I don't know! I mean, DBZ itself had "aliens" that looked exactly like humans, and maybe even were just humans from other planets - like for example Reccoom from the Ginyu force (who definitely made Krillin feel inadequate :) ). So... who knows if the human-looking other-universe-people will be "humans from another universe" or "aliens that look exactly like humans", I guess.

Universe 2's magical girls and old-man-in-space could be humans.

Universe 3 is one purple-skinned mad scientist and 9 robots, so no humans.

No humans in Universe 4's team of rogues, either.

Universe 11's team has a General Cyborg dude who looks like a (GI Joe inspired?) human.

Universes 9 and 10 are both all animal-like people, except for one flamboyant elf-like dude but I don't think he's human.

Two of Universe 6's members haven't been revealed yet, so it's possible.

HOWEVER, I don't think you need to worry about Krillin and Yamcha not feeling inadequate. Krillin is definitely being cast as one of the weaker members of the Universe 7 team, and every other universe has at least a couple big-deal rivals. Krillin has already destructo-disked an opponent to zero effect (as per tradition), and it was just a minor unnamed opponent.

As for Yamcha... he went several episodes eagerly waiting for his invitation to the tournament... and never got invited.

But speaking of other-universe lookalikes... Universe 6 has a trio of alt-universe Saiyans, at least one of whom might just humble Goku/Vegeta/Gohan...

Wait.

Wait.

KRILLIN is on the Universe 7 team? Scraping the fucking barrel a bit there, aren't they? XD

Also, still moderately annoyed that they had nerfed Gohan so much, so I'm glad, from what I hear, he's back up to par now. (Still reckon it really should have been him taking over main character-wise post Cell saga, but whatever.)

Krillin and Gohan both recently had "wow, I've really let myself go" wake-up moments when they had a hard time fighting Sorbet's minions. They both trained back up to their former peak prowess, and a bit past that. Tien and Roshi are both in the Universe 7 team, too. None of them are anywhere near on-par with Super-Saiyan-God levels, of course, but they're not entirely weak, either. They're also using more strategy than the rest - while Goku, Vegeta and the Androids run off to fight head-to-head, the rest are sticking together and doing combo attacks against anyone who approaches.

But on the other hand... yes, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel (minus Yamcha). That's a part of the plot, though - Universe 7 is the second-weakest of the 12 universes, and it only has 20-some planets that can even produce any level of fighters, because the Supreme Kai and God of Destruction of Universe 7 are both seemingly quite terrible at their jobs. Beerus blew up a bunch of other planets that might have produced other strong races like the Saiyans, because he bases all his choices on food (or just because he gets annoyed) and Shin doesn't seem to care.

So the Saiyans, Androids, Piccolo and the humans might actually be the best Universe 7 has to offer. (And they won't use anime-only Otherworld characters like Pikkon. One could assume those people have already passed on to heaven and aren't available anymore.)

Good thing the top four universes (which probably have hundreds of strong planets) aren't participating in the tournament!

Fair enough. Except Krillin was mostly useless around the time of the Frieza saga and never, iirc, got any more powerful than that (did he even fight anyone during the Android saga? Can't say as I recall but then DBZ Abridged serves as my main memories of DBZ now), so he's not exactly a threat to anyone beyond mook level anyway. (Though honestly the kienzan/destructo disc should always be a threat XD.)
Tien and Roshi are also theoretically weaker than Krillin, iirc. Though Tien did Shin Ki Ko Ho Semi-Perfect Cell a little, and Roshi literally hasn't fought anyone in the series in forever up until the Resurrection of F bit, where he was not very well defined in terms of relative power but was clearly still in the "not a threat to actual bad guys" zone along with Krillin.
At least with Piccolo we know he got up to Imperfect Cell levels after fusing with Kami and Nail.
Though frankly I'm not sure how much it matters with the likes of Trunks, Vegeta, Gohan and Goku on side. Sure, there is always someone "more powerful" to beat through the power of determination/MOAR RAGE, but frankly that lot are all so OP already (at least, pre-nerf Gohan was what with the whole potential unleashed "oh wait I'm as strong as Super Saiyan 3 but more efficient and can still go Super Saiyan 2 on top of that" angle. XD) it basically becomes a case of everyone is would be untouchable under normal circumstances.

...man, can't wait to catch up on all this. XD

Well in some ways that is addressed in Super. Part (or all?) of why Krillin stops being a martial artist is that Goku has gotten so strong compared to him that he doesn't feel he has anything to contribute anymore, so why not stop tagging along and just go live a normal life. Same for Tien, somewhat (he's still a martial artist, now with his own school, but doesn't feel he needs to go with Goku and co. on their adventures or whatever).

At the same time, though, it's not like the relative strengths of the characters in any of the Dragon Ball series has ever been consistent or made all that much sense... with OR without the numeric "power levels". I think Super decided to retcon things a bit, too - the Super Saiyan forms are still ludicrously strong (hence needing opponents from entirely other universes), but non-super Saiyan is more comparable and it seems training as a Super Saiyan or non-Super Saiyan is just as effective, so the other characters can train with Goku/Gohan or have friendly fights with them as long as they doesn't transform.

Plus there's always the whole "holding back before transforming, gotta save my energy for the final opponent" build up thing they've been doing ever since the beginning.

You should really catch your way up already :) The first 27 episodes are the same plot as Battle of Gods and Resurrection F, so you could start right at 28 if you want (and there's a recap episode shortly after that to cover everything you skipped, anyway).

I'm somewhere in the middle of the first inter-Universe Tournament arc, iirc. Alt!Frieza has just been defeated maybe? Somewhere around there. But I do need to resume watching, yes.

Damn this is very tempting.

I not sure Where hit fits in but watching him and Goku take each other on has to be one of the better fights I've seen in the series.

There was a real feel of threat to Goku and I think I caught a lil bit of the tournament and the tail end of the zamasu saga.

Its just a huge ask on time. How long till team four star get to Super? Will they even attempt GT?

Oh, dude. TFS will get to Super in like 2117. XD

I'm pretty sure they aren't going to do GT though. I mean, it's probably not bad material but people are waaaaaaay less into GT as a whole than DBZ. But at a rate of less than one episode a month, they might - MIGHT - wrap up the Cell saga this year. Doubt they'll hit Super before like 2019 and even if they do, it'll be another few years before they catch up to where the show is at now. :S
I mean, I love them, I really do, but they are not exactly pumping out episodes.

There's got to be only a couple episodes left before Abridged finishes the Cell Sage, right? They're already up to the very last fight of that whole arc... I think? (Honestly I don't remember much of the specifics of DBZ, it's so long ago.) They should definitely finish Cell Saga well before the end of this year.

But yeah, then there's the whole Saiyaman arc, a martial arts tournament, uh... some underground adventure thing with demons (???) before you even get to the Buu Saga, not to mention like half a dozen more movies probably. That's going to take many years.

Do itttttttttt!

Hit (from universe 6) has showed up a couple times now, and IIRC Goku still hasn't actually beaten him squarely yet. Right now Goku is rather distracted by this ultra-intimidating fellow from Universe 11 named Jiren, but I am totally expecting Hit to give Goku a good surprise beatdown with a whispered "what, did you forget about me?"

It is a big expenditure, for sure, but it's also the sort of thing where you can skip big chunks without missing much. Like, there's a 13 episode stretch in-between the Universes 7 & 9 Exhibition Match and the start of the Tournament of Power that is just gathering the Universe 7 team, some training and some shenanigans en route. It's good for progressing some of the character arcs and having some lighthearted interlude, and it also gives some sneak peeks into the characters of the other universes, but it isn't really essential viewing.

I'm pissed. The next AoT didn't come on past Saturday thanks to 4th weekend. I hate when shows take a holiday. Never made a bit of sense to me.

So just go stream it from somewhere else??? It's been finished everywhere else in the world for a couple weeks now, if the U.S. release is going to be delayed even more what's the harm in streaming one episode illegitimately...

Where abouts is the best place to jump in after the Zamasu saga? or better yet where does the Hit situation start? is he the new Piccolo?

I did a quick google search, Jiren looks like a red Lantern grey alien. Is he powered by Rage?

You have to say NINGEN and then frown like an angry Zamasu for the proper effect.

Also why did none of you sods tell me about WorldEnd? I picked it up a few days ago and am binging it. Hot damn, parts are like reading something I wrote - the main character's survivor's guilt / PTSD reactions and Chtholly's reactions / slow descent into insanity are superbly executed.

Quite the opposite. Jiren seems to be exceptionally calm and unemotional, all the time. He hardly reacts to things at all... so far.

He doesn't even strike a dramatic pose with the rest of his team!

So far the arcs are like this:

01-14 -- Battle of the Gods Arc
15-17 -- Filler
17-27 -- Resurrection F Arc
28-41 -- Universe 6 & 7 Tournament Arc
42-43 -- Filler
44-47 -- Komeson Mini-Arc
48-67 -- Future Trunks/Zamasu Arc
68-76 -- Filler
77-82 -- The Universes 7 & 9 Exhibition Match
83-95 -- Lead-up to the Tournament of Power (gathering the team, training, issues)
96+++ -- The Tournament of Power

Hit first shows all throughout the Universe 6 & 7 Tournament. I don't think he was in the baseball episode, but he comes back for a few episodes in the filler after the Zamasu Arc. He has a couple scenes in the Tournament of Power lead-up, and of course he's present in the tournament itself.

As for where to jump in after the Zamasu Arc, you should watch episodes 70-72, then skip to 77 and 78 for the initial setup of the Tournament of Power. If you want to skip the first two exhibition fights, jump to 81 but you do need to watch 81 and 82 for some character setup and to get all the universes hating Goku.

After that, it just depends on if you want to watch all the recruitment and friendly battles or not. It's cool to see the little bits of the other universes, too, but I don't think it's really required at all. There's one bit with Cabba that I think might actually be better NOT to see and be more surprised by in the tournament itself! If you want to sample some of it but not watch all of it, I'd say watch episodes 84, 88, 91, 94 and 95.

WorldEnd aka SukaSuka aka Shūmatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii Desu ka? Sukutte Why Is This Title So Darn Long?

I mentioned it a few pages ago. I thought the first episode was really great, with the ominous flash forward, the lovely maze-like cityscape, the soundtrack, the quirky four kids, etc. Then the second episode came out and the series became Waifu Farmer 3000, capped off with that ridiculous "it's totally a medical procedure, guys *wink*" massage scene aaaand... nope, wasn't interested any more.

I get why that'd be the case (and tbh I missed your post). However, further in, the MC is more developed as a father figure with the girls, and his reactions to some happenings are basically us when Trull happened if you get what I'm saying. The character development in this is boss.

Uhh, doesn't that make the ecchi much, much worse?!

But yeah, point taken, it's just not the type of show for me.

This is very helpful D,

Will jump in based on the recommendations and report back if I have any questions!

I have yet to find anything I'm super interested in this cour. after the Boku no Hero S2 "finale" I tried march comes in like a lion and made a hard turn to the right and started watching little witch academia.

It's so damn interesting to see Trigger do something so different from Kill la kill and yet in-sync stylistically.

I wonder what Trigger would do with something in the direction of a Hard SF like Ghost in the shell or Jinroh.

anyways its great stuff, I'm gonna review it when I'm done, Just 6 more episodes to go and 2 movies.

Out of context, maybe a little. But that development happened more towards the end of ep 4/5.

Sakura Quest looks to be a 24-ep run, which is nice. I'm enjoying this rather a bit.
