LoGH ep 26 (don't judge I have a long commute. And/or no life).

Did that just happen?

Spoiler

I still like it, although the battles are getting a little repetitive. As we go on, the lack of any explanation whatsoever regarding how these ships are so fast in travelling between planets/ have gravity is annoying me more and more.

Yeah, that was a lot more plot happening in this episode of SNI than I expected. Things are ramping up nicely.

So I'm watching Bungou Stray dogs.

I'm possibly missing an episode but there's definately a pacing problem somewhere in this story.

I'd say it's got to do with:

I'm up to ep12 of SAO but it's tricky getting motivated to carry on with it.

JJBApt4DINB, ep 35: BAITZA DUSTO. JoJo gets more and more [menacing] every week. Kira especially is becoming a full-blown creeplord.

Keijo is setting up for a predictably cheesy outcome but it's so stupid and OTT that I can forgive that. The last few episodes haven't been as good as the series openers but it looks like it'll pick up soon.

So im a big fan of Gag manga, Gintama in particular, its full of jokes and ridiculousness.

Every now and again it turns serious and produces some incredible viewing.

This formula of gag manga just works for me. I enjoy Authors with a sense of humor and dramatic action-based narrative..

Anyways, recently there's been a flood of excellent anime with this sort of humor/action mix. Onepunch man, Boku no Hero no Academia, Mob psycho 100 etc. these shows vary wildly yet remain hilarious and entertaining, however there's been a bit of a gap between them and Gintama.

Recently I came across the Disastrous life of psychic Saiki K.

Its the Gintama / Mob psycho cross over nobody asked for, but we should be glad somebody did.

The premise is slice of life Supernatural with our protagonist super psychic Kuzuo who wishes to be non-remarkable in every way possible despite being a psychic Prodigy able to do God-like things. Its nice to see an MC that actively fights the anime tropes with 100% commitment.

Its worth watching, there's tons of meta anime fans will appreciate and enjoy. It doesn't outright lampoon Anime but highlights some of the cliches and incorporates them well into Kuzuos struggle to avoid being the MC of his show despite being a Gary Stu of the highest order.

Anyways I thought I'd share the title for anyone looking for something new and funny. Saiki Kusuo no Sai-nan aka The Disaster of Psi Kusuo Saiki

just skip straight to season 2 of SAO.

the entire first season of SAO is absolutely atrocious. The series only gets good when the main focus isn't around kirito.

So, I just watched Kimi No Na Wa (Your name) at the cinema.

First of all, do not watch this movie at the cinema if you value your dignity.

Second, watch this damn movie!

Now, I'm a sucker for anything by Makoto Shinkai, the man has a direct line to my heartstrings much like Jun Maeda does, but while this was not the most gut wrenching of his films, it was still a work of art, and an exercise in making people FEEL.

Don't be silly, Silencer, it can't have been that emotional? Tell that to literally half of the cinema I just walked out of, who were in tears. (The other half was holding it together, mostly for the purpose of comforting the other half, lol). And I'm talking a full theatre. Like, same number of people in the screening of Fantastic Beasts I saw earlier today (so glad I saw them in that order, could not do another film at the moment). Full on crying. Because Makoto Shinkai is a monster when likes toying with people's emotions.

On the flip side of that, it was a great audience throughout. Everyone laughed, cried, and had a good time. But damn. Haven't seen a public display of emotion like that for a film, ever. Applause, sure. Laughter? Of course. But outright tears? (one guy two seats down from me was just about out of his seat in the fetal position, ffs)

And this wasn't even as emotionally crushing as 5cm/s!

But seriously, see this film. Just... Maybe not in a cinema. XD

I also recommend this one! It's still making me laugh and I'm 90 episodes in.

@Silencer - I really want to see it in theatres, too (dignity be damned). But I don't think it's even coming to Toronto, let alone any other theatres around here, anytime soon.

There's big news (pretty legitimate-looking) going around recently that a season 3 of Code Geass has been announced.

5cm/second is amazing, but you can start with either - or one of his other works.

And it IS torture. But these movies are the definition of cathartic. Like, you know how a lot of films these days are just cookie cutter without any real investment? These are built for investment and the accompanying emotional release.

So it's totally worth it. Though now I'm worried I've built it up too much. XD

But seriously, check them out. Either film is absolutely excellent.

But... How? XD

Where would that season even start? Still, interesting news! I'd be down for some more crazy shenanigans.

And it would suck if Your Name doesn't come to your cinemas. :( I was super excited to see it played here, but I would have thought it was releasing globally...

This week's Keijo was proper stupid. Great, of course, but absolutely ridiculous.

I wonder if Kira will be able to maintain JoJo's current streak. Part 4 was so slow to start but it's gotten rather good of late.
