Anyone here watched "Gantz" ? A friend recommended it to me but I dunno about watching it based on the reviews.
I watched the first episode a looooong time ago, but that's it.
From what I've heard about it, it's an interesting premise and the individual episodes can be good, but there's no satisfactory resolution to most of it at the end (in fact, I think a lot of people say the ending actively pissed them off).

Dude the formatting is like torture to my OCD. I see it and I am smashing my head against the wall.
Unfortunately the board seems to go batshit crazy any time I try to edit stuff. So if I edit that, it'll make it worse.
If you turn off the Rich-Text-Format editor in your My Settings page it will stop doing that, but you'll only see plain text and [code blocks] when posting.

Shingeki. No. Kyojin. (Attack on Titan). Episode 5. Holy...
Massive. MASSIVE Spoiler warning. Do Not Read if you EVER plan on watching Attack on Titan. Like, seriously.
Spoiler
I am willing to bet reasonable money that, after the "let's recover from that shock" flashback-based episode 6, Eren will survive (and probably get prosthetics, apparent tech levels notwithstanding), most likely due to Mikasa. But in the meantime: OH MY GOD THEY KILLED THE PROTAGONIST!!! (And how often do you get to say that, huh? XD
ETA: And I never thought this would be a footnote to a post about some other anime, but...just watched Evangelion Rebuild 3.33. Maybe I was expecting too much, given how insanely god-tier the first two were, but this one...was...average? I dunno...the first section was neat, but then there seemed to be too much "missing" from between the end of 2.22 and 3.33. I mean..
Spoiler
Okay, is the Shinji we see in this movie ("Test Subject BM03" or whatever) *actually* Shinji? Or is it just a clone/recreation? Because that was the impression I had at the start of the movie, given it seems unlikely that they managed to extract Shinji from Eva-01 (come on, the preview at the end of 2.22 starts with "Shinji and Rei are still stuck in Eva-01", ffs!) but decided to just leave Rei in there. And considering 01 managed to come awake for a while...plus, without Shinji, the whole movie would have gone a lot better, so surely there must be some purpose to reviving/cloning him? And apparently we missed the bit where Mark 06 gets Longinus'd (wasn't it Unit 01 that was pinned at the end of 2.22?) and/or infected with the twelfth Angel...and when did they pull Longinus out of Unit 01? Whose bright and risky idea was that/?!?!!/ So yeah, kinda working through this one/wondering what I've missed. Maybe I'm just too tired. Gonna have to rewatch and reevaluate. But it has nothing on 2.22, that's for sure...
Guess it kinda felt like a bit of fanservice/a send-up of the end (and End) of Evangelion original, in some parts, too... :S
Because Seraph of the End is starting this week. The studio and composer are the same as Attack on Titan, and it promises to be an action-packed show with several mindfuck moments. So you're going to be seeing plenty of posts like the above one here, and you will feel so sad and left out.
Meanwhile, Trigger is either imploding or saving Christmas the anime industry with "Ninja Slayer From Animation", a show that has debuted three different art styles in the trailers and is looking to be more meta than any Trigger show before (one of the trailers is just a ton of interviews with people pretending they are huge fans of the non-existent franchise).
Plus, Unlimited Blade Works is back for part 2, there's more Monogotari, and out of the blue classics like Gintama and Lupin III are getting sequels this cour.
And even if you manage to withstand your curiosity for all of the above, there's no way you will not decide to at least just check out the first episode of "Is It Okay To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?", because no one can resist at least watching the first 5 minutes of a show with a name like that!
So yeah, sure, you're not going to watch anything this season until the end... suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

It shall be a struggle but i shall do it. If anything ill go back and start working on my to watch list. Im about half way done seireitei no moribito (guardian of the spirit) and i'm enjoying it.
There's much on my to watch list i need to take care of
Every ghibli film i haven't seen (i've seen wind rises, arietty, nausicaa, monnoke and porco rosso) Grave of the fireflies is the first on my list. Im looking forward to beign reduced to crying in the fetal position.
There's monster i need to get back into
I need to finish serial experiments lain
Macross frontier
The main gundam franchise
There's that one show a few years ago, it was spice wolf but the wolf is a demon lord in this show, densetsu yuusha iirc
There's also the gatari series (also apparently monogatari means story teller or story)
Also given silencer no longer comes here i think ill be fine, ill be safe from his overly exuberant posts about whatever is currently trending. That being said, i will take you up upon watching an episode of "is it okay to pick up girls in a dungeon"
Also in response to what you said earlier about my opinion of death parade.

Definetly the best show of the season by far!
Hmm, I'm not sure I feel the same way. At least not yet. As riveting as the show is, they haven't really gone beyond showcasing aspects of the world and pushing the one main theme yet
Spoiler
...that maybe judging a human based on pushing them towards impulsively acting poorly is both immoral and ineffective...
and while both of those are certainly interesting there isn't really that much depth to it just yet. They could easily bring together a lot of the things already in motion in the show and make it a lot more meaningful all in one more episode (and there is only one more), but they might not.
In contrast, I find that Assassination Classroom is doing a better job of executing on numerous aspects of itself consistently well. It's mainly a silly school comedy with an octopus monster teacher, so all it needed to be was funny with that premise. It is indeed doing just that - being regularly funny with its core premise - but at the same time its got the ongoing mystery of learning more about Koro Sensei and the discrimination of the students issues being continuously brought up, too. So I'd say it is doing more than Death Parade is so far, without failing its core purpose, either.
What i appreciated in death parade, was an original concept, with some good direction and good character writing (im reffering to the judgements). Epcially that episode 1, it was riveting, and heck it was even disturbing given you didn't know what was going on. It didn't rely on cliches to do the story telling. I appreaciate this attempt at giving us something different from what i usually see being aired.
In regards to assasination classroom, i do admit this could very well be simply a question of stylistic differences. I'm not big on comedy myself so that accounts for some of the difference in opinion. I'd also say if we want to talk depth, the various characters we've been introduced too had much more depth and conflicts to overcome than most of the characters in assassination classroom. Again this could very well simply be a stylistic thing given one has an adult audience, the other much younger as well as there being a very clear difference in tone.

I'm sad.

I hated it. I watched 5-6 episodes then gave up. For starters its one of those "read the manga" type animes so your satisfaction is already dulled. I ended up hating all of the main characters as well, there really wasn't much to like in this (MC is a jerk, MC's friend is a cry baby, Random Female is there for fanservice and is useless)
I woulnd't reccomend it

Depends what sort of 'dark' you want. Bah, I'll just update my "general suggestions but separated by 'darkness' list".
Mind-screw/ultra-violent/psychological 'dark':
Bokurano (a, uhm...darker version of Eva? XD)
School Days (Slice-of-life [henceforth to be known as "slife" because of a typo I just made] with a twist)school days is a deconstruction of the harem genre. I wouldn't reccomend it because of that. You're going to hate it
Mirai Nikki (deathmatch scenario with vague supernatural elements and every character is insane)good show, entertaining, if you like deathmatch games this is a good show
Monster (very slow paced, detective-type story but fairly dark - older series)Good show, i still need to get around to starting it back up. Very long however so unless you're willing to invest a few hours a week watching just 1 show for a few month or so i wouldnt do it.(74 episodes)
Black Rock Shooter (concept was a Vocaloid song...result was a fairly psychological series that is both "dark" and fairly innocuous on the surface)thanks for the reminder silencer, need to finish this
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (deconstruction of the "magical girl" shows - get through episode 3 before making any judgments...good rec
Elfen Lied (similar to Madoka, in some ways, but more in-your-face about it)the author writing this show goes full sadism mode their characters. Phenomenal OP but aside from that this show just feels like an exercise in cruelty
Moral ambiguity/serious-ish plots/'realistic' "dark":
Darker than BLACK (way less "dark" than the above shows - but then, Cowbow Bepop is not "dark" to me, either)Solid show, just don't watch gemini of the meteor (s2), so bad
s2 review
Death Note (I'ma assume you've heard of this one...)One of anime's best psychological thrillers. Really good watch the first time.
Ergo Proxy (another older/'classic' show that you might have already heard of - Ghost in the Shell-ish but darker)ughhh, this show tried so hard, but failed to deliver. I appreacite the effort but the execution was lacking
Fate/Zero (if you missed the fangasms going on previously, this (not Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Unlimited Blade Works, though) is one of the best anime in the past decade, bar none) solid rec
Shin Sekai Yori (futurepeople live in a weird society and have psychic powers...but all is not as it seems. For me, and a lot of others except maybe D'rek, this was awesome - also imo one of the better shows in the past decade) good recomendation
Kara no Kyoukai (series of movies - precursor to the Tsukihime series and the wider Nasuverse as a whole (which Fate/ is part of), bit mind-screw, fairly complex, gritty, etc)
Bakemonogatari/Nisemonogatari/Monogatari S2 (VERY quirky style by Studio SHAFT, who are awesome, but if you're not paying attention this series will read like a total jumble of random words - not helped by the constant Japanese wordplay which is indulged in to a ludicrous extent and made more difficult to follow by the constant jumping about of the shots - one of my personal favourite series, but not for everyone, or even most people, do not enter if you are not prepared to PAY ATTENTION and still be rather confused)
Noein (TV Tropes laconically describes this as "Quantum Physics: The Anime", though it obviously doesn't portray it with scientific accuracy; based on the idea that only that which is Observed is fixed, basically. Good show, but not 'great')ill have to check this one out thanks silencer
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom (awesome show, very "realistic" beyond one or two liberties, about a guy who gets turned into an assassin for a rapidly expanding mafia-esque organisation. Best of the shows by Bee Train with fairly similar premises but much less budget/experience - Noir, Madlax, El Cazador de la Brujah [in order of seriousness/quality, roughly])
Psycho-Pass (another psychological, near-future, thriller - but a great example and one of the better shows of the past decade)
Serial Experiments Lain (uhm...*plot summary here*. Don't really know how else to put it, but it's another oldy, and the plot summary would spoil it, so...philosophical exploration of the Internet as a concept?)
Not 'dark' in any respect but still good shows:
Full Metal Panic (comedy, but excellent comedy) solid show
Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood (more manga-true version of the Fullmetal Alchemist anime, excellent story, bit long but worth it) solid show
Code: Geass (another classic, see D'rek's post on the other page for it's recco, which I totally echo) solid show
Steins;Gate/Robotics;Notes
Sword Art Online (mostly the second season, but seeing as you kind of have to watch the first...),bro they make crap tons of references to s1 in s2, Have you forgotten you're speaking to a malazan reader? We can infer the past, i'd even reccomend it given how awful s1 was, s2 was phenomenal however, good writing, good directing
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya solid show
Missed a few off here because I doubt they'll appeal, but that's a good starting point? XD
edit: either im insane, or there was a post above this one

None of Dolmen, Cause, blanketman, Trull's Son, BK, Whisperzz, etc have posted anything here in quite a while. It seems like we are all alone in this thread nowadays, and if you aren't watching anything either then I don't want to be just sitting here quintuple-posting to myself... might have to let the thread die like the previous two anime threads, and eventually when someone out there gets excited about anime again they'll start a fourth thread being like "How come there's no anime thread?!" It's the ciiiiiiiirclllee of anniiiiimmmmeee threeeeeeeads.
Or I guess I could make a critical comment about One Piece to reel Amph and QT back in

Spoiler
When nona walks pass the boss man, notice how doll like his drawing becomes
Also a bit of a translation thing, but ningyo translates into doll much more closely than it translates into dummies. I kinda get where they are going with that translation but it still feels off. Maybe it's to avoid the connotation that a doll is a toy?

Phibbler - how would you summarise it? The name conjures images of Geralt but with a fuku... Erm.
World with certain people who can access magic powers. A Japanese unit, with the American Robin, the special one with magic powers of her own, of police hunts down the bad Witches. But things are not as they seem behind the scenes at HQ...
Oddly enough, sorta like a witcher, but Robin is less convivial than Geralt.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I think so, yeah, and also maybe connotations that a doll is controlled by someone (doll has more of a puppet connotation than dummy).
I don't really see the difference in Oculus' drawing. What minute:seconds are you referring to?

oKAY waaaaaay too much anime looks good this season.
Did I mention I'm watching Nichijou? Well I kinda hit my comedy quota on that one. It was fantastic. Almost Azumanga Diaoh meets Daily lives of High school boys. Buckets full of laughs. Literally buckets.
Need something Epic now. Reading Owari no Seraph and see D'rek mentioned it on the previous page.
If this has been produced into an anime it will be exactly what I need.
I might pick up Tokyo Ghouls again but if I'm honest I'd rather catch up on it in one binge sitting. I'm a big fan of that so BL you are not alone! stay strong brother!
Incidently I watched Highlander the Anime again yesterday. It was even better than I remembered it. I haven't watched the full live action movie but this had alot more going for it imho.
