I also think there's a BIG distinction between "having Kogami do all her fighting for her" and "Kogami does all the physical confrontations". The latter is not inherently sexist - the other Detective doesn't do much hand-to-hand either, and the purpose of the Enforcers is to do what the Detectives cannot - that is, get their hands dirty. She's not trained to do that sort of thing. And there's no shame or gender bias there. The only reason the other Detective sees more action is that he's 1) more experienced and 2) bordering on being turned into an Enforcer himself. Never mind the theme about people having their own competencies, having a female lead who doesn't personally kick ass is not the same as suggesting that females CANNOT kick ass (bear in mind, the female Enforcer). Our lead does a lot of fighting in other ways, and in the end demonstrates great strength of character - she does things her way, Kogami does things his way, and she never gets bullied into changing her position. That's completely different from having Kogami be the only character with agency, which is what you are implying, I think.

Similarly, being unable to murder another person, for whatever reason, is not a gender issue. The fact that she failed to save her friend is independent of her gender, and more indicative of her personality and morals. This is a byproduct of the society she lives in, but is no more gender-based than her stated aptitudes for the highest-level jobs in the country (which she turned down to pursue her own desires).

And I do seem to remember her displaying plenty of strength of will and character over the course of the story - she had moments of weakness, sure, but not "because she is a woman"-implying moments. They were character development, of a young person going through some really world-shattering experiences. And her survival, her determination to succeed, and to do so without betraying her own ethics, throughout that struggle is a much more positive attribute than most female characters get.

Thus why I included it on the list. I think she's a plenty strong enough female protagonist, just for different reasons than you're thinking of.

Quite different. There are basic plot and character similarities, but fairly early on, and certainly by half way, iirc, it is basically a different story. Watch it.

Trigun is a great show. Good comedy in the first bit then when it gets serious omg!

For any Eva fans...I know it's been a long wait, but good news out of NYCC was that Funimation have finally finished their dub of EVANGELION 3.33: YOU CAN (NOT) REDO, and they screened it at NYCC...here is a blog post about that which includes the English voice cast...mostly no surprises there (seriously, I don't think ANYONE other than Spike Spencer should ever, ever play Shinji).

So the rumour is that the DVD/BluRay release may be sometime early in the new year...February 2014 is the date that seems to be kicking around.

I'm PERSONALLY kind of hoping that, like 1.11 and 2.22, the dubbed version will get a Theatrical release here in Canada. I've attended both the first two films with two friends (one of them my Anime-watching buddy from the 90's...seriously, we used to get Japanese food and watch anime all night on a regular basis), and I'm hoping we continue to get that treatment...the only issue is that I literally have to keep my nose to the ground to catch it as it usually only plays for a week or two.

Anyways, sounds like we'll finally have the 3rd film in our hot little hands in the new year.

EDIT: Oh and I realize that at a cost of about $40 these headphones aren't going to be the best audio-quality...but sweet merciful Odin I want a pair now. I even tried Google-translating the pre-order page...but sadly they give no international shipping option. Though the previous headphones in this category have traditionally shown up on Amazon in the States to order, my expectation is these will too...and yes, I will order a pair.

OP: Just finished Ep 13 of AoT. Really cool end to the initial Trost Arc. Looking forward to seeing where we go now that Eren is in the Survey Corps...and Captain Coldass just stomped his ass for the court. LOL I also didn't realize I was literally the entire season behind, and I still have about half the eps to go. Gotta get to work on that, so I can get properly stuck into ECCENTRIC FAMILY and give the first 3 eps of COPELLION a try.
