Ok the Thorns references get a lot more than subtle. But it all works out.

This was tremendous. Fun, propulsive and interesting.

It's like the better parts of Locke and Jean from the Gentleman Bastards mixed with Ciaphas Cain and the Thorn settings. Jal is a much more sympathetic protagonist than Jorg and there shouldn't be any accusations regarding Lawrence's ethics as a result of the plot or side events.

Love that exchange. Actually, all their exchanges are great. I'm 7 hrs into the audiobook and I'm love'n it. So different than Jorg but still a fantastic character. So nice being back in the Broken Empire. I'm going to have to do a complete re-read/listen of the first trilogy when I finish this one.

Well decided to read a little bit last night, then got a bit more at the airport and flight this morning.
enjoying it so far, about 1/4 through, my biggest concern right now is that I'll be done with it quite quickly and then have a god awful wait for the next in the series.

impressions so far - Jals an immediately more likely protagonist that Jorg, kind of like a comedy version of Rek at the stsrt of Legend, which is a character I can get behind. His monologues are funny as hell and although I think the route his love hate relationship with snorrinis going to lead is obvious (unless I'm goin gto be totally broadsided) I'm looking forward to the journey as both characters are instantly likeable.
plot wise, its a venue we know, and the over arching dead king arc gas been resolved so be interesting to see how neatlynit ties in. But there's enough there already to have me hooked.
Mr mark, please get the next one finished up post-haste

Just finished Prince of Fools. I loved it. The narrator did a fantastic job on the audiobook and I can't stress how very important this is as an avid listener. My only complaint and it's not really a complaint is that I already know how the main arc with the Dead King finishes having read the previous trilogy. I wish this one had been released after Prince of Thorns and then the two arcs could interweave following Jorg and Jal simultaneously (though I am aware that the initial trilogy was finished before Prince of Thorns was even released). I'm confident that this will be handled well being as how Mark has obviously put a ton of thought behind the whole Broken Empire so I'm sure my complaint will be aptly handled.

Anyway, congratulations on another blazing success.

heading to bed now but can't wait to finish it tomorrow night.
not as gritty or meaty as thorns, feels a lot shorter and lighter with the considerably smaller cast, but some pithy dialogue and plenty of nods and the ins to thorns fills it out without having to labour into too much detail as we already know the other side of these small notes and references.
will say that king is still my favourite broken book so far but I'm enjoying Prince of fools

Just finished Emperor, loved it. Somehow I never tire of Jorg's solution to problems. I admit the only bit in the trilogy which really made it hard for me toread was that bit with Justice in King. Very good series, I'm glad I picked it up.

Good to hear! Now all I need is to repeat the process with ten thousand other people

My own poll shows that Prince is the least popular of the trilogy with people who have read all three - though of course there are some who are very firmly in the 'Prince camp'.

not quite the ending I expected (where they ended up as people yes, but not how they got there, definitely didn't see one bit coming but probably should have, will likely catch the hints on a reread)

but same thing happened to me a few years ago coco, was writti g something, well hashing oht ideas and a bit of writting, then read The Straight Razor Cure, and it was basically what I wad aiming at in a different setting. Disgusted with myself
