Also, thank you for the Youtube link. That's very nifty. I had figured Arrow was actually a part of Belgium instead of France - goes to show how bad my topography knowledge is nowadays  Something seriously went wrong with the Dutch water management system to be flooded that badly... or maybe we did it on purpose!

correct alt.

There's a mermaid named Tapper making an apperance in Emperor of Thorns.

I know you love me, but that's too much honor. And you're misleading the author, too.

But I'd totally dig that.

Perhaps the little girl in King of Thorns dreamed you up in her heroin dreams?

Tapper the mermaid and her lovely tops!

Watch as she frolics through the algea!

10 bucks tapper the mermaid sets off a builders sun that destroys a fleet that is going to destroy the Emperor of Thorns.

I'm betting she'll try to ensnare the Emperor with her feminine charms.

Well, the line was that three women would love him. If Katherine is the first (and that might be iffy) and the 13 year old is the second... Tapper the Mermaid could easily be the third. Although I assumed the third would have been whats-his-faces daughter in the north. Elin?

The older mermaid stories tell of them being able to take human form to lure sailors to the shore and their death. Perhaps the great revelation is that Tapper is Elin!

Do you think mermaids can live in the frozen waters up north there?

Beneath the ice it's all fine. Besdies they can warm themselves in the longhouses when they've taken on human form.

.. Man, the author will be pissed when he discovers we've deduced the big plot twist of 'Emperor'.

I'm just hopping the Tappermaid leads him to Atlantis and it turns out to be a floating city that he powers with builders suns and uses it as his impenetrable flying fortress as he goes and takes over all of future-past europe.

I'm going to studiously ignore all that and instead thank everyone who voted for King of Thorns in the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Fantasy 2012 :)

Very nice, especially considering the fact that Stephen King was likely to win it. Congratulations!

Pity you couldn't defeat Goodkind.

Well... I'd prefer people to do that in front of the appropriate shelf at their local bookshop... but failing that, here is cool too.

The real question is... will you acknowledge me if I do it at a signing of yours? Because I definitely will.

Sure - if we're ever in the same room I promise not to pretend you don't exist.

Also I will do my best not to get you tazered.

This is wonderful news. I will try my darnedest to embarrass you with my copious amounts of enthusiasm at whatever point I can make it to a signing.

Concerning the topic as well, I've been trying to figure out if certain information was left of the book on purpose in order to keep the reader guessing.

Spoiler

Or if it was just overlooked in the editing process? I highly doubt the latter, I'm just trying to figure out if you did it for the surprise factor, or didn't feel like writing those side stories because they didn't have a giant bearing on the story or what.

I've had too many experiences with tazers, deadly weapons and explosives to want to be harmed anymore. How could you suggest such a thing :p

You're a Goodkind fan, its deserved :p

Still damn good books though, and like Abyss I'd be really interested in learning more about the Brothers.

Heh - no, not overlooked in the editing process :p

The story is told from Jorg's point of view and so things that may seem important to us are not always important to him and thus don't get told. The world building for example consists of what Jorg finds to remark upon, rather than being a guided tour for the elucidation of the reader. There were steps taken to provide moments of shock/surprise but hopefully they can be fitted with this framework without too much twisting.

Right on, so more or less a realistic sense of storytelling. At least how I would look at it. It was certainly refreshing and different, vice being fed every tiny scrap of information.

Well thanks for the reply, and I'm looking forward to what that "touch more" might encompass, as far as the book goes haha.

Spoiler

I still heart Goodkind.
