Adversely affect the story in any way? I've been on a Malazan binge lately and have heard multiple times that you should read RoTCG before TTH. I'm about to finish TBH and really enjoyed the CG parts in MT, I was thinking of reading RoTCG before Reaper's Gale, but wondered if it spoils anything at all? Thanks.

Yeah, you should read Reaper's Gale first. RotCG would spoil some things in Reaper's Gale, while it merely provides the set-up for some things in Toll the Hounds.

OK. Thanks for letting me know. Does it spoil anything major or just a few little things? I could live with the latter.

That depends on what one considers major. I say that the events of Reaper's Gale will be fundamentally altered by your knowledge of what takes place in RotCG. Under that sort of scrutiny, major spoilers, yes? And, that's what I'll go with. Better to play safe with spoilers. Finish RG (which is awesome) and then RotCG is the suggested reading order, and that is for a reason. :D

Gonna use this thread to ask my question.

I just finished RG and I'm absolutely blown away by how good (and sad) it was, I want to continue with the Malazan books asap. However! I've read on these forums that RotCG should be read before TtH because there's a spoiler in TtH that could tamper with your reading experience of RotCG. The problem is this: I really, really, really enjoyed RG and I want to continue as quickly as possible with the mainstory and I also didn't really like Esslemont's style of writing in NoK so I'm worried I won't like RotCG that much either (plus it's more than a 1.000 pages so it'll take atleast the rest of this week before I can continue with TtH!).

So, what I'm actually asking is, should I continue with TtH, DoD & CG before turning an eye towards the Esslemont books or are they actually worth it to be read chronologically (ea. RotCG, TtH, DoD, SW, CG)?

If you didn't like Esslemont's style in NoK you probably won't like RotCG much either. He doesn't write like Erikson (in a way that's a blessing as far as I'm concerned) and he tells a much more focused story.

I found RotCG a much better written book than NoK personally. Not to SE quality imo, but as Abberon said, a refreshing straightforward change, with a contributing story.

Could someone please tell me what RotCG spoils about Reaper's Gale though please?
I read RotCG BEFORE Reapers' and it didn't spoil anything for me as I can remember.

There's one large plot point form RotCG, but it didn't effect Reapers plot so far as I could discern.
Either spoiler tag it here or PM please, don't just open post a spoiler if anyone is kind enough to answer me, thank you.

I'm not sure it spoils anything from RG, since it takes place after or concurrently.
