So we pulled through another game of hungover CIV 5 on sunday. I won quite handidly with the Huns, a civ that is absurdly strong in the early game. By the time mathematics arrived to make warfare an actual tactic worth pursuing for other civs, I had already conquered the Ethiopians and Japanese on my continent, having the whole place to myself with three capitals hammering out wonders at overdrive.

It's so powerful I'd almost argue that it's the top 3, if not the best multiplayer civ. It's production bonus is something you'll almost always benefit from early game, no matter your starting position, and the battering ram is absurd. Three of those with a couple of horse archers was enough to take Japan and Ethiopia, one after the other.
Take good care to keep relations civil

OK so last mission in X-COM bugged out on me and one Floater fell through the map and I can't re-engage him, next door won't open if I don't re-engage. Fuck this shit, I'm just going to watch some Let's Play, had enough bugs for a game half? full? year after release.

Got the Bullfrog pack off GOG over the weekend, so I've been playing Populus, Syndicate, and Theme Hospital.

Sorry about being a little late to the discussion. I tend to forget about the forum for a few days every now and then :p
Here is what I had to say about Remember Me elsewhere:

I just finished Remember Me and it was a pretty cool game. I really enjoyed it.

The short of it is that it there were some minor but noticeable technical issues, but it was good fun, great visuals, great concept and well done.

There were some technical issues:
- a few noticeable glitches here and there
- I had the out of sync video/audio I get in some game's cut-scenes, but it wasn't too bad (it wasn't great, but better than in Saints Row 3)
I'm also not a big fan of QTEs, and while they were few, they were still annoying. There was one boss fight that I got pretty frustrated at, in large part because I was having a fail time at the QTEs.
That's really all the complaints I have for it.

I liked the setting. It's nice to have games in a setting that isn't the US (and you're not just an american somewhere else). The difference in style and culture is always appreciated. Some of the big shots of Neo-Paris were very pretty and cool.
The concept for the memory stuff and the problems/abuses of it was interesting and fairly original (though I am not a big sci-fi reader, so they might be less original than I think, still well done).
The combat was pretty decent. I really liked the idea of building combos to have different effects and I liked taking the time putting the moves together in ways that flowed nicely. It would have been nice to either have some stuff for isolating people a little more or let combos flow through to other enemies, as enemies tended to bunch up a bit. I still liked it.
I always appreciate extra in game info about the setting/world, so the Mnesist memories were good, and I liked the idea behind the Mnesists.
I also loved the visual style of the game. Architecture and fashion were well done, it was futuristic without being too ridiculous. Plenty of the characters looked really good while still looking functional (the soldier armour for instance). The robots were cool, especially the roar of the Zorn. The art stuff I loved the most though was all the animation and shit to do with the Sensen. The glitches, the augmented reality, the memory flows, the overloads; were all awesome. And they combined together to make the Sensen feel like the device hooked straight into your brain and integrated into your life on every level that it's supposed to be.

So yeah. Generally good, not as polished as it could be. Keep in mind that it is very much a linear game, don't expect open world. It's also not hugely long. I don't actually buy full price games very oft-...well ever really. I did this time in large part for moral reasons. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted the game anyway, but I would have been patient otherwise. I could probably have gotten more value for my money from something like Bioshock Infinite, but I do feel that I got my monies worth.
So you probably made the right decision getting Infinite, but I would recommend Remember Me as a game to grab on sale :p

PS - I'd give it more than a "nice try, but", it's more a "good game, held back a bit by some flaws". It does have a lot of potential for something bigger though. A well done sequel could be very awesome.

Thanks for the review there! I'm really enjoying bioshock but I will definitely pick up remember me when I can get it a bit cheaper.

Bioshock Infinite is a mind fucker for sure.

I always sit through the credits (even though some of them can be long). I figure I owe it to the folks who worked so hard creating the game. Also, sometimes there is an easter egg or some nice reveal that you would not see otherwise.

I am fully entrenched in The Last of Us. This game is dark and emotional. Great story.

Xenogears. It's on quite a few top RPG story lists, and given how much I loved Xenoblade Chronicles I figured it was worth checking out. I'm about 16 hours in now and loving it. I can't wait for X on the Wii U (the one game that will make me purchase that system).

Been having tonnes of fun with NWN2: Storm of Zehir. Boy, but this expansion is refreshing! great deal of freedom, you get to work with a fully handcrafted party, this has a really great D&D feel tbh! I recommend trying it out if you haven't already :)

Currently my party consists of:
Aasimar Cleric(5)/Doomguide(6) - this guy just rips undead apart, and has some great self-buffing spells too, which he can turn into heals on the fly - very versatile I'd say. Also, playing a Doomguide was my sole reason why I installed NWN2 again and tried SoZ :D if I get enough levels in this game I might just go for warpriest once I reach Doomguide(10), getting Spot points for it now, should be ready on time.
Gold Dwarf Fighter(7)/Dwarven Defender(5) - steadfast wall of steel, great tank really! Takes some micromanagement to make full use of Defensive Stance, though.
Tiefling Rogue(10)/Shadow Thief of Amn(1) - was going for Invisible Blade but of course I fucked up my feat choices and didn't have Feint available for picking at level 10, so had to work around it and get 3 Intimidate points and go with the other stuff... still cool though. Lots of sneak attacks from this dual-wielding babe!
Sun Elf Wizard(5)/Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep(7) - great all-round arcane spellcaster, which I mostly use for pure damage output, with some small list of spells for defense and utility
as my single cohort I bring the ranger girl from down south - she's a great tracker and survivalist and is great for moving around rough terrain on the world map.

So far I've come far enough to get three trading posts going, haven't upgraded anything in the crossroads keep yet, and I'm still sometimes struggling with some of the random encounters in the Sword Coast, but 1-2 more levels and I'll be the bane of everything that moves, more or less. Everything is proceeding smoothly.

Trying desperately to ignore the itch I have to re-activate the Eve account to try out the new stuff.

Finished the Witcher. How did I not pick this up sooner?! Great game, totally absorbing. That ending cutscene was awesome too. Now onto Assassins of Kings, and maybe a trip to the bookshop to see if they stock any Sapkowski.

I just finished playing Spec Ops - The Line.
I have never before played a game that so thoroughly kicked me in the balls.

It is a great game, I highly recommend it. I also recommend looking up as little as possible about it. Having to advise that gives away a little, but less than you'd spoil looking it up.
The campaign is fairly short and is what I recommend.

Not sure I'm liking the Witcher 2 as much though. I mean sure, it's pretty and all, but the combat system is taking a bit of getting used to and the QTEs are pretty annoying, particularly in the Prologue.
