Was just supposed to have a quick look at KSPbefore I went to bed, then WHAMMO! It's half three and I'm still no closer to putting anything meaningful in space. I don't kill every single kerbal that works for me anymore, so I suppose that's progress.

That depends entirely on your goal I reckon.

Waddya mean?

And this game is absolutely insane! Before you know it, you end up calculating propulsion needed (Delta-V, don't you know) to get to and from the moon (or Mun, as it's called here) with given payloads. I've just been fucking around until now, but you can do all sorts of stuff with this. People are travelling to distant planets and moons, building space stations and satellites, and advanced, "aspergus-style" rockets. And it's only 0.2 beta! Brilliant!

Oh I've just been playign too much CK2 lately. It brings out the worst (or best) in me.

So I have several games running against my civ-group of friends, seeing how it's rare that all five of us are online at the same time. This one game I've got running is on Europe (as in a Europe-like map) where's Babylon and I rome. I've been merrily expanding in the classical Roman way, and with an eye on our respective scores, assumed I had control of the game. That was until my legionairs stumbled onto his riflemen. He'd been sitting there with but two cities, pushing hard on the science path. I knew he was ahead of me by about an age, but I assumed he'd gone hard on one path alone, leaving most of the other tech untouched. However, as it turned out, he had more than three times my science rating, with 2 cities to my 10! Suddenly I had to re-evaluate my entire strategy.

I still think I'll win. My production is after all far far superior to his. Sadly, it'll be a long and painfull war. I think my bet is simply to tie him up by throwing soldiers at him and send another force around to flank and take his capital. Annoyingly, walls of babylon are mean. Mean. I can still lose though, depending on just how far ahead he really is.

Finished the Witcher. How did I not pick this up sooner?! Great game, totally absorbing. That ending cutscene was awesome too. Now onto Assassins of Kings, and maybe a trip to the bookshop to see if they stock any Sapkowski.

Not sure I'm liking the Witcher 2 as much though. I mean sure, it's pretty and all, but the combat system is taking a bit of getting used to and the QTEs are pretty annoying, particularly in the Prologue.

Prologue is by far the worst. It gets better afterwards, quick.

You may also want to check out a combat rebalance mod. It was done by one of the devs as a side-project, so it's not an official patch. But it's supposed to make combat flow better (makes dodging smoother and quicker, and more responsive), and also gives an option to get rod of all QTEs.

I'm planning to check it out (I do Witcher replays basically annually), but I have compiled a shortlist of games I wanna play in the near future first.

Just beat Xenogears which was great and disappointing at the same time. The first disc was 50 hours of awesome, but things went downhill after that. The story was still great, but the second disc, which is about 10 hours in length, crams the rest of the story in largely via narration. This was extremely weird - the story was still great, but compared to how the first fifty hours of story played out the change stuck out like a sore thumb. I went online to see why this happened, and sure enough it seems like the game was originally intended to be four discs long, but production had to be rushed in order to meet the release date. This is a real shame, as there was definitely a good 40 or 50 hours worth of potential content that had to be skimmed over in order to rush the story to completion.

Vanilla or modded?

The only challenge that game presents to me after the 2000 hours plus ive spent on it is playing as Gaul as they have no USP.

Ive been wanting to get a mod sorted for Medieval based on the Storm of Choas Warhammer campaign but as its not likely to happen I might just start Medieval 2 again.

I completely suck at RTS games I get my ass handed to me except one time on Homeworld I got to the last level and could not beat it. It was a fluke even getting there as I've never was able to get back there.

Me too. I find C+C/AOE/Starcraft etc arent really strategy games. You have some tactical control but no Grand Strategy over your entire campaign which is the most interesting part of war for me.

C&C online is build and rush, I always enjoy the single player campaigns though for the storyline and occassion varied missions (most boil down to build and destroy though)

vanilla Rome, used to have the spqr mod. Uts a clean install as I formatted my laptop recently so have to smash up the world with my legions before going on a barbarian rampage.

I enjoy playing the Julii so this doesn't bother me overly, watching my praetorians smash into Rome is fun times.
Goal for tonight is to have all of Spain under my command and have handed ze Germans their ass enough that they are running scared.

Yeh I enjoy allowing the other 2 families to really expand before I go to war with them. Makes it interesting having the same troop types that arent Phalanxes. If your trying to earn the factions a half hour short campain on easy with the Scipii is enough to unlock everyone. I assume your playing on very hard for both campaign and battles my good man?

Maccy you bastard. Today is the first day of my 9 days off and I cant spend it on Rome but your making me want to play it. The frustration

Give in.
just imagine holding the line while your cavalry sweep around and smash those pesky spearman in the flank!

went on the piss on Saturday night, but gave it a small run last night, Gaul is mine, ze Germans nose has been well and truly bloodied and three heroic victories over the Spanish has put them firmly in their box, now to butcher my way through iberia.

I dont have a copy of the game at my flat but I do have Medieval 2 which is more of a challenge because of the Hordes (mongol and timurid) that turn up. Thats what made me want to play the Warhammer version as the orc hordes look great.

Barbarian invasion is also a favourite.

Been playing 'Eador: Masters of the Broken World.'

Surprisingly good, and I'm only 1.5 hours into the campaign.

I really liked that one as well. That is, I played the old version (Eador: Genesis), which is the same as the new one but with poorer graphics and reportedly less bugs. Like a mix between Total War, Masters of Magic and Heroes. The one thing that bothered me with that game, however, was the lack of continuity between the shards. That you had to start all over for every single map really dragged on, especially as it's a rather extensive game with loads of buildings to unlock. As it was, I didn't even get tier three monsters in my city before I got bored of it.

That aside, I highly recommend everyone fond of strategy to give it a try.

Almost finished Chapter 3 of The Witcher 2. Just trying to get past

Spoiler

Also, Bastion is awesome. Dunno how I waited so long to get it. And the soundtrack is incredible. Right now I just have the game minimised so I can listen to the soundtrack while I do other stuff. :crybaby:

Havnt had a chace to play it yet (the gf got me xbox live for my birthday before I had a chance to attempt to download it) but it looks good to me. I cant tell if its because I was once into warhammer as a kid and this covers the 'Storm of Chaos' campaign with Archaon and such but it looks challenging.

I could not get into the Witcher 2 it seemed really slow and plodding. I will give it another go at some point but have no motivation to.
