Started up Crusader Kings 2 yesterday to get away from the Gal Civ 2 crack. 9 hours, a tea pot and a few apples later it is past midnight and all I've managed so far is getting my ass whupped as the Aragonese, Danish, Ryazan and Venetians respectively. This game is addictive. And tough.

See, maybe it has to do with my perspective on the game. As I see it, they HAD to release it in its current for,. They knew it was bad. But there was no trust left in the IP, so a whole new game was out of the question. Instead it is given to Gearbox to polish over in the hopes that when it is released it will make a hundred million and some of the money they lost will return. As it stands the game is a curiosity. It's a freakshow of different generations of ideas. There's water levels. There's bad vehicle combat. There's valve puzzles. There's turret sections. There's fetch quests. Etc. You want to play it just to witness what comes of truly bad development control.

Playing the game with this in mind I thought it was a fun ride. I liked the stupid catchphrases and adolescent humor. I didn't really mind the stupid story because I knew it would suck. The only thing that really annoyed me was the mediochre feel of the guns and the limitation on ammo. They'd patched in an extra 2 weapon slots so the amount of guns I could use didn't annoy me that much.

I just hope the money earned goes towards a future duke game developed by Gearbox.

Number and feel of guns, as well as regenerating health, is what doomed the game, really. That and enemies coming in waves. There's only two other games that I consider as bad an investment as this: Lionheart and Command & Conquer 4.

not playing atm, but for anyone who own the Witcher 2, Enhanced Edition free pre-load is now available!

I am ecstatic, since they finally include Russian voiceovers, so I don't need to scour the runet for files ripped out of the DRM-ridden Russian release anymore!

got back into E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, as a way to relieve post-exam stress.

This game is awesome. The story's not going anywhere so far, the interface is pretty terrible, all the info it dumps on you is pretty overwhelming, and the visual blur of running and shooting is annoying as hell, and the stealth is virtually impossibly unless you cloak.

and yet...

This game just GETS IT. it's not about the story--it's about feeling like a freaking badass. it's the only FPS I know where in single player at the start of the game, you have a choice between ALL THE GUNS--from pistols to a MINIGUN. (well, all classes. not all models, some you have to buy before using). and the RPG stuff is there--augs like Deus Ex, or Psi-powers a la System Shock 2, and it's deep, and its useful. there's an x-com like "research" system, where you get to research stuff you pick up on missions, and it grants you perks and stat boosts.

right now I'm level 21, i'm rolling as a hacker/infiltrator (or try to, when I'm not spotted by AI and forced to kill everything. Though usually I hack every turret on the map to destroy my enemies instead). I've got the cloak aug, a badass sniper rifle, I can hack anything and everyone (yes, you can hack enemies to fight for you), and anyone that gets close enough dies from dual-wielded pistols.

and, this is the coolest freaking thing ever--in this game, you can fight with a gun and sword. AT THE SAME TIME. so I take one of my dual-pistols, and replace it with a sword. Right mouse button shoots, left makes things explode in a fountain of blood. Oh, and the sword has some energy elements to it, so it explodes your enemies.

EDIT: and if you decide to only use the sword, you can DEFLECT ONCOMING BULLETS. WITH THE SWORD!!!

I'm switching back and forth between Kingdoms of Amalur : Reckoning and Runescape (yeah i know). After I beat kingdoms I fully intend to go back to Skyrim and play around with the new Kinect updates they have released.

I'm playing Avernum: Escape from the pit. Another game from Spiderweb Software of the same mold as every other game they've ever written. Terrible graphics, poor story, sub-par writing - but excellent game mechanics. Oh sweet Satan, I love this game! The writer of the game said it himself in a gamasutra article: find a niche and you can do alright as a indie game developer.

Still Playing through Witcher 2...
Second playthorugh just got to Act II from the other side. Combat no longer feels like a chore on normal, and lowering the resolution a bit gave me a 10-frames boost, so that now I can actually dodge and deliver flank and rear hits, which makes the game glorious. My only remaining complaint is that sometimes there's too much cluter on the screen--and if the camera get lost in the lush foliage, I may die because I can't see that my attempts to roll away form an enraged Endrega queen are all failing, because i'm rolling into a tree root, ;) had some clipping bugs, too.

but, those things aside, the game is simply GLORIOUS

Oooh, I am so happy to hear this game is awesome because I've been debating whether or not to buy Witcher 2 for a while now. I only have enough money to buy one new game this month (birthdays and baptisms and stuff have been draining me dry) and I've been waffling between W2 and Diablo 3. So I guess Witcher 2 it shall be and Diablo will go to next month.

As for what I'm playing now, I recently gave up on Dark Souls for the PS3 because I got sick of dying every 8 seconds. :doh: I started a new Skyrim game, I'm going to try and do the quests I couldn't be bothered with the first time around.

Played through Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. What a bloody fantastic little game. One of the best dungeon crawlers I've ever played. Why can't the West make them like this anymore?

Act 3 got much meatier with the Extended Edition.
