I couldn't resist buying Owlboy last night. Played about an hour this morning. It's a really charming Retro-inspired 2D adventure/platformer.

There's something about faux-16-bit era pixel art that I just love. I don't mean the piles of indie trash that Steam churns out, but the legitimately well-crafted, beautiful stuff that games like Fez and Shovel Knight present.

Owlboy just makes me feel like I am 10 years old again and sitting and playing my SNES. Only on top of that the game has great writing and excellent game mechanics.

Ok so I realize that this is an older game. But I got Star Wars KOTOR a while back (2016) and just finally started to play it. I have to say that it is freaking awesome. The game play the interactions. So much fun.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

I've tried getting into KOTOR three times I think and I never get further than the undercity of the first planet. I even own the second one that came out on Steam a few years ago.

At this point the game is old enough that I'd prefer to just play the Old Republic MMO, since it's basically KOTOR3 anyway.

I have so little time to play. That I will no doubt grow bored with it by the second planet.

My last attempt @ KOTOR ended when the game crashed weirdly when I got to the first planet's surface. I never really went back b/c at the time I was bouncing off all Bioware games.

Since then I've completed (and enjoyed) Jade Empire, and (on my third try) was able to get into DA properly and complete it. So trying it again is somewhere on the list (esp. Since Obsidian did the sequel, which makes it a "must-play")

ok, wrapped up "The Longest Journey". Enjoyed the ending and solved the entirety of the last 2 acts without a guide!

Not gonna jump into "Dreamfall" just yet. Debating between Ark Fatalis + then the rest of Arkane's games including Dishonored, OR Bioshock Infinite.

Of course, what this means is that I'm probably gonna start playing an RTS. Or an action-adventure.

What ending did you get? I got a high chaos ending which annoyed me. I'd been killing everyone but I did it silently and with little combat, so that annoyed me a bit.

Yeah, change of plans. I was browsing the GOG sale and stumbled onto the first computer game I ever tried playing (I was horrible at it, naturally), back home when my parents worked in a research institute that had the early, DOS-based computers
I must have been 4 or 5 years old back then.

It's the killing part that does it, not the silent bit, I believe. Silent with hardly any killing is the nice ending.

I would have respected the judgement if theyød called it the murderous or dark or sinister path. But the way I played the game was surgical. Yes I killled absolutely everything but I did it silently and covert. I threw dead bodies in the river to hide them and got the shadow kill ability quickly. I left entire quarters of the city empty. There was no chaos, just silence.

Got BlazBlue Centralfiction yesterday and holy mother of shit. It's fantastic. It feels and sounds far beefier than Chronophantasma did, it feels notably quicker than CP, and it adds some new mechanics (active flow and eceed accel) which up the pace even more.

My characters have been beefed up as well! I've taken the decision to drop Celica for now, along with stopping learning Kagura and Terumi. I'm now maining Mai Natsume whose gameplay is a more rushdown-oriented version of Ramlethal from Guilty Gear XRD (she also uses the same type of combo system, incidentally). Mai's inputs are deceptively easy, but she's very dependent on spacing and her combo timing is incredibly strict which means her more advanced combos will be a pain. Still, worth the effort.

Tager is much stronger than in CP. His new special acts as both a reversal (long invulnerability frames) and a combo tool/opener. So you can go 360b into 360b again for a command grab, or 360b into the classic 5c 6a 2c collider route for a combo. He can also get 22d (gadget finger) off of all his grabs now which is a massive buff.

Azrael's inputs have been streamlined a bit so it's effectively impossible to drop his TCL rekka. Otherwise, barring his new DP (panzer strike) he's basically the same as he always was.

Mu's changes are the most interesting. She lost Divine Wrath but instead got a new special that causes any deployed turrets to home in on the opponent for pressure/an ender,Ikutachi had the range nerfed quite hard but it now doubles as a command dash as well as a crossup/combo tool and she regained jump cancel on her 2c which is pretty huge.

It would probably be pretty boring. Every stage was basically me cheesing the shit out of the AI, sitting and staring at a couple of guards for 5 minutes, running in to the shadows like a rat when I fuck up, and occasionally brief moments of violently stabbing somebody through the neck. Also lots and lots of quick saves and quick loads.

I bet I probably spent 75% of my game time going over every room and alleyway looking for collectibles and money.

It was fun when I played the Daud DLC because I realised, I don't think I ever got into proper melee combat during the entirety of the main game. The combat was completely alien to me.

Arx Fatalis clearly requires reading the manual first.

"Chaser" (a story-based shooter/sneaker) was pretty fun, but I hit a crash about 3 missions in. (edit: fixable with a reinstall /edit)

So I ended up bouncing back to an RTS. This time it's Age of Mythology Extended Edition. Apparently, I can't just play the Chinese Campaign off the bat, so I'm re-playing the original. Cranked up the difficulty to Hard, and AI is making even the early missions a real struggle.

It does, I remember the first time I played it. I ran into a deadstop. Because I had been so horrible at it, I'd lost all of a specific item without any chance of getting more before I progressed in the story. Problem was, I needed more to progress. So basically I was screwed and couldn't continue. Durnit, because I rather liked Arx Fatalis.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

So while everyone else seems to be playing some decent serious stuff, I'm trundling around in Dragon Quest Builders.

It's about as easy as it gets, but the minecraft hook is a good one - I keep playing to get more stuff; get more stuff and you can build bigger and better fires, workshops furnaces etc which opens up more materials.

You have a set floor area in which to make your base, but this is kind of good as you become more concerned with where you build certain rooms; and as more residents move in they add requests for room types or items.

I finished the first chapter and base; the second chapter is set in a different biome with different materials, so while I've started a new town again from scratch, the new materials and craft tree now available is keeping me interested. There's also a free build mode, but rather than have everything available from the get go, it needs to be unlocked in the story mode so I'll go back to it after I've finished another chapter or two.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Dragon quest: Builders definitely looks good. I hope it eventually comes out on PC. I love the look of the game.

Something I don't understand though. Are you able to dig through the earth or build big random structures out of blocks like in Minecraft?

It's definitely more limited than minecraft; like the far closer bedrock, and the third person perspective can sometimes make placing blocks more awkward in some situations - but it's not supposed to be a clone. It's more like an rpg, with the base being the thing you level up rather than your character.

No you can't keep digging down for like half a mile, you hit bedrock pretty quickly. The maps aren't generated like minecraft, they are designed. But these aren't negatives while playing.

Yes you can just build big random structures; but it would be a bit weird in the context of the game, and as each island/level is aimed at you completing certain objectives, there might not be that unending supply of material you can hint for in MC.

The base you get, although there are some requirements for the residents, is your own to design. It's fun, especially when you find some ruins that contain fancy stuff you can't make yet, carry them back and upgrade your rooms.

The free build island area has places that can be shared online, and all the materials you've unlocked in the game, but even then I think you have to go and find/make them, it's not like MC freebuild. But then it's not MC, and it's not trying to be. What it does is take the addictive elements from Minecraft and stick them into a light rpg.

In this, if you build a kitchen, the residents cook things and leave them in the chest. They make things themselves in the forge, and at the moment I've got three sick people in the infirmary that require treatments that I haven't figured out how to make yet.

It does all look amazing. I'm looking forward to building in the free mode, I just want to do some more story mode first.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Making my merry way through AoM EE. Never played this on "Hard" before.

So far (almost done the Greek portion- destroyed the ram in Tartarus already), it's challenging, but manageable. I had to re-learn the old habit of "always save before you do anything drastic"- in the last Troy mission it took some careful save-scumming to make sure my fledgling base wasn't spotted by any scouts who lived to talk about it.

I do love me some hydras though. Best myth unit EVER.

Should start Egyptian portion of the campaign soon. IIRC, there's a lot of "hold out untill your workers finish X" -type missions there. It'll be interesting to see how tough those are now.

Oh man, is there any better game to play on election day in America then Fallout 4? I've finished the main story but haven't played any of the DLC, so taking my first run at the Automatron add-on.
