Oh damn, I forgot about The Last of Us, I was in the middle of that game when Fallout 4 came out, and I haven't gone back to it. I have a weird relationship with that game, I am really, really not a fan of FPS' tbh, and the more I played the game the more I was turned away by the gameplay in general, I found the each 'level' to be much the same as the next and rather a chore to get through after awhile. That being said even as they felt more of a chore to get through, I was more determined to get through them, purely and entirely for the story and character buildup, it is honestly a brilliant story (what I know so far anyhow) and I might have to go back to it just to see the end - even if I don't really enjoy actually playing it lol

Wrapped up Tariq. Turned out to be a fairly easy mission, b/c I started in Imperial age, with most Blacksmith + Uni techs unlocked. I did get attacked early on, but since I plopped my TC down by a stone mine and that was the first thing I focused on, I was able to put up a Castle to block the one super-open approach, and then wall in the bridge and the little strip of land b/w forest and the river fairly quickly, before the Paladins + throwing Axemen raids became overwhelming. The AI spent all game trying to demolish my river wall and the 2 towers I put up. Meanwhile, massed various cavalry, trebs and started demolishing the Frankish Army. Then did Bordeaux afterwards.
The ending briefing has the Berbers defeating another Frankish army (winning the battle of Tours, I suppose), and then going on to pillage and conquer Europe. Heh.
Slight dissapointment: the achievement sez I finished Francisco de Almeida campaign instead. Also, dry and boring "you have completed all scenarios in __________ campaign" achievement text is dry and boring. Sigh.
Gonna try to start Yodit on the weekend.

This pretty much sums up my experience. I started to gwt bored by the repetition, and found it harder to want to go back each time - until I just didn't. I still haven't finished it.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Wait till you get to the Berbers....
Finished Yodit 1+2
1 is kinda tought, cuz you`re constantly attacked and stuck in feudal Age. My non-mandatory hero kept dying,

2 is more of a "sit back, tech up and do favours for other factions". there's occasional respawning "raiders", but really you're not in any danger.
-In the end, you have to pick a city to turn enemy against and conquer. The choice was b/w Saracens that looked to be in Castle, and Ethiopians who looked to be Imp (but had a smaller city)
Naturally I went with Egypt. Massed an army, changed stances and steamrolled.
Long missions, though- maps are huge.

Yesterday around 4 AM, I was almost done Yodit 5, when the game crashed
Let this be a lesson to you: save regularly.
Mission 3 was time-limited, and I really didn't explore even half of the map, cuz I was VERY slow on getting my shit in gear and teching up (you start in Feudal, and resources are preeeeety sparse). ought to be a fun mission though, if I can do it "right". As it was, I ended up massing cavarchers and harassing the lumbering enemy column untill I could assassinate the enemy king.
Mission 4 was another "sit back, do favours, destroy city". I felt there was a bug, cuz one of the objectives was 'visit and befriend all the allied settlements", and they kept saying "We'll join you once you've visited all the tribes", but when I did, the objective was completed, but no reinforcements came. Not that I particularly needed them, mind, but it was a tad annoying.
Mission 5 is taking the capital.lots of street fighting, enemy spawns automatically until you destroy ALL production buildings in a section of the city (they're blocked off by barricades. you auto-spawn "elite petards" from time to time to clear them.
There was a point when I actually got pushed back hard, the defenders kept making souped up scorpions, and decimating me in tight alleys. took some effort to break through that.
Hopefully I'll have time to replay today, maybe even move on to the Mali campaign, Sundjata- I love the African civs' look, and Ethiopian Cavarchers + shotel warriors armies are insane. 5-6 shotels take out a war elephant without losing one guy.

I've picked up Darkest Dungeon again now that it's fully released. It's still great. A new class, some very helpfull additions in way of information (now I know which hero is best at disarming traps for instance). It's very much worth the relatively low cost. A hand drawn lovecraftian nightmare in RPG form.
Last night I was fighting a boss and managed to stagger through with all four heroes at death's door. No losses and that was miracelous.

I need a worthwhile mobile game. Bad. I've gone to emulators for something to do with no internet availability for most of the day but honestly with everything having to be connected these days because of eleventy billion adds in every game they have gone away from the "you bought the entire game and don't need to constantly update our garbage."
If your cat wasn't meant to fly, why wouldn't they make them bigger?

Did end up replaying Yodit 3. It was much more coherent second time around. Managed to do some of the secondary objectives this time, which helped (didn't have to deal w/ enemy monks for starters). Still felt too constrained by the time limit- I was hoarding resources so that as soon as I tech up to Imp I'd have the 900 food for the heavy cavarcher upgrade. Also I didn't actually build any troops until Imp (bar the 5 light cavalry I sent exploring and wiping out defenceless secondary objectives).
When I replay this, I'll have to remember to get aggressive in Castle. Maybe put my Castle to block the ford for the enemy instead of just covering my own base.

Ment that sucks. It felt like I was saving every 3 minutes during TLOU cos I was so scared of losing progress and having to do really hard bits all over again.
Speaking of I played the dlc "Left Behind" and it was a great little addition to the game, really fleshing out Ellie's story.

Got caught up- did Yodit 4 last night. Naturally, I didn't go as smooth as the first time- partially my fault, as I tried to get too artsy, using Castles offensively- basically instead o protecting my TC I was gonna set up a Castle just outside the enemy city, to prevent a flow of units against me. This was contingent on surviving the initial wave, AND holding the little patch of land by the ford that my more teched-up enemies were using as a main road until I could finish the castle. Took about 5 tries to get the timing right. Then the rest was easy.
Ideally, I can find some time in the next few nights to wrap up Yodit and make progress on Sundjata this weekend. Not sure how much free time I'll have, though.

Turns out there's a known bug in Yodit 5- in the city of Aksum, in the south-eastern corner there's an AoE 1 version of a Monk. Once you reveal him and hear the wololo, game crashes.
Besides that, it's a pretty by the numbers mission.
So is Sundjata 1. So far Malians don't seem to be as exciting as Ethiopians to play. Maybe I'm just getting burned out on AoK after getting close to 300 hours played.
Sundjata mission 2 looks like it ought to be fun- you have 2 allies, 3 enemies, get a mcGuffin to each enemy base to convince them to join you. Guessing i'll get to it tomorrow.

Completed Super Mario Bros. last night. Getting Bowser that final (eighth!) time was quite satisfying. Original Princess Peach wasn't a great looker though.
Now on to Donkey Kong Jr. Started yesterday, seems short but tricky. Also amazing just how much more smoothly Mario plays than this game, with both made in the same year.
Also playing Among the Sleep, from my enormous back catalogue of PSN and Xbox Live games. You're a baby, your teddy talks to you, your mum appears missing, and every room looks nightmarish. Now I know nothing will happen - I'm a baby after all! - but nice dark atmosphere all the same.

Finished Sundjata 2-4. Good campaign, and interesting topic- Mali, 13th century- you don`t get a lot of that in historical RTSs.
Mission 5 is tough. Have to take a major city, enemy has lots more resources. I was scrambling to keep up (and then they started building a Wonder). Gonna have to rethink my strategy on this one.
