I read this part in the book before I saw the episode but only by a few days. To be honest I knew Ned was going to die from the moment Joffrey took the throne, without foreknowledge. In the book I was like "Meh so what". Seeing Mr. Bean being beheaded was way more spine tingling than reading it.

Funny how Drogo was willing to take a proverbial shit on Westeros when Dany's life was being threatened, but he wouldnt keep his promise to Viserys, even when HE threatened her. Just not a fan of Drogo apologists.
This makes no sense on any level. From Viserys to the random assassin, Drogo demonstrates that he doesn't care much for Westeros and is purely motivated by threats he perceives to Dany, and taking them out. Viserys threatened Dany, so Drogo killed him. An assassin sent by Robert threatens Dany, so Drogo decides to exact vengeance by setting out to kill Robert. There's no inconsistency in any of this. Add to this the fact that Viserys bared steel in Vaes Dothrak.
We also have no idea what the nature of his promise was to Viserys. We know for sure he didn't negotiate with Viserys directly. He went through Illyrio. And Illyrio is a shifty bastard, not to mention there's evidence to suggest that he wanted to thrust Dany into the role of heir all along. Plus there's plenty of evidence from conversations Viserys had with Jorah and Illyrio to suggest that Drogo could very well have intended to fulfill the promise to invade in some capacity, just in his own timeframe. Viserys, being insane and envious of Dany's newfound respect among Dothraki, couldn't abide the wait.
Come on man. It's perfectly legitimate for you to hate Drogo, I'm not going to try and change your mind. But it seems to me that, once again, your Dany/Drogo vitriol is causing you to grossly mischaracterize events.

I have no doubt in my mind that GRRM was using his years on TV when writing this scene. If you see the axe swinging, screen goes black, and you only hear the thump before the credits roll, scene would be killer (in that same absolutely frustrating way).

It's very true. Between the general buzz, the Emmy buzz (and the very good chance that he'll actually snag one), and the fact that Tyrion is arguably the star of most of the source material for season 2, he's almost certainly the new face of the show.

Hmm. i think I'm somewhere between you and Jitsukerr, opinion-wise.
She has something in her facial expressions that is very exotic that is really attractive and intriguing (and let's face it, so far, her mysteriousness has been enhanced massively by her role and lines in the show), but her face is in no way that of a classic beauty and I think it really depends on what angle you see her from. I do have to say that I think she's looking much better on recent pictures than she looked when she was younger - her face has filled out a bit and that makes her look way more alluring.

Mwah. Esmé Bianco's fun to look at and can probably dance better (she's a burlesque performer apparently), but I think HBO avoided the "jaw dropping stunner supermodel" for a reason. The gorgeous blond who made Jory stammer came closest, I guess.
EDIT: I'm not in any way complaining though. Well, maybe I don't really want to see Lisa doing her breast feeding scene again, but the guts HBO showed there was pretty awesome too.
