Also, did NO ONE else find it supremely badass for Tywin to be fucking skinning a buck for the whole first scene in ep 7? That was my second fave scene beyond the betrayal scene in the throne room.

Actually that scene did not convince me. In my mind Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock,Warden of the North, richest and most powerful man in the realm, would never wear a butcher's apron.

That was my initial thought too. In my re-read of the books I came across Sam talking about the encounter he had with his father out in the forest, his Dad was skinning a deer while instructing Sam that he was to take the black or suffer an accident.

So, I figure skinning deer is established as something the Nobles do. :need a shrug/dunno smilie:

True,I remember that too but Randyll and Tywin are different people. Tarly Sr is first a warrior, Tywin is statesman and tactician. The point is I can see, say, Robert doing it, but not Tywin.

I agree with that. I don't mind gratuitous sex and nudity at all anyway... He clearly considers himself a puppetmaster, but he's not entirely cold about it...he's reasonable AND ambitious AND vengeful AND emotional, and is very good at juggling all of these things to suit his goals.

I took the main point from that scene to be that Littlefinger is so obsesed with power and/or Cat that he has NO other drives... thus verging on sociopathic.

I don't see what's so ridiculous about it. It probably plays pretty much exactly like it has been done by numerous war-tribe cultures throughout history. ...

Oh, I agree there was nothing wrong with the contents of the speech or the gesticulating. What was absolutely 100% wrong was the audience it was delivered to.

Such theatrics are a necessity when speaking to a mass of people. However, this was an intimate group of his officers, ...

Not necessarily. it's fairly well established even if strictly within the bounds of the tv show only that the Dothraki have the whole Noble Savages thing going and Drogo is the baddest of the bad. So he tells his lieutenants how its going to be and they go tell their underlings and off we go to war.

Almost. :)

I didn't have a problem with it. In the first ep, three men on horses exit and it's not crowded but it's not exactly gaping around them either.

Weird watching this after reading it, as scenes of great impact in the book seem to lose that impact on screen - possibly just because I know what's coming.

Really? For me its rather sad... like Drogo´s promise. And I still have to keep poker face for my wife...:)

I'm having to do that too. It's quite difficult in places - when Viserys was jumping up and down shouting 'I will be crowned' earlier on, I really had to bite my tongue.

And everytime Eddard is on screen, I want to quote Jaime from SoS... 'poor dead Ned!'

i KNOW. At the end of ep 7 the ladybyss says 'how is he going to get out of this?' and i had to keep SUCH a straight face on it was painful.

Y'know, it would serve us all right if they took a complete left turn and Ned went and DIDN'T die in the tv series.

I just never heard mention of her before. :)

and the Cat thing kind of lead me astray, like you wanted to be the worlds first Crazy Cat Man.

GRRM wrote episode 8. Thus, I expect it to be a perfect episode and I hope to have tears in my eyes even though I did not whilst reading the boot.

Can you imagine all the collective grunts and "what the fucks" heard round the world at the same time? lmao that would be great.

All the moreso if it was because Arya swoops in, frees Ned, and stabs Joffrey repeatedly in the nads in the process.

I hope they kind of do it from Arya's pov like in the book... hearing it rather than seeing it. Because all the time she's fighting through the crowd, you think that somehow he's going to get out of it... and even when there's the 'collective sigh' you can't quite believe it's actually happened.

Hopefully HBO will show subtlety when it's needed - I have doubts though.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Worse case they'll just have some lesbian sex going on in the background during the execution.

I wonder what sounds weirder, a beheading or a sloppy BJ.

The last three posts in this thread are awesome.

Edit: Mostly because I'm drunk and now I'm picturing Ned getting a sloppy BJ before/during the beheading with a gratuitous lesbian scene between Roz and Cersei in the background.

Of COURSE it will begin.

We'll just have to wait until 2016 for ep 9.

This series just gets more epic as it goes.

I'm seriously impressed with what HBO has accomplished here.

And it's only going to get better.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
