Quick correction: it's the dead-eyed Mandon Moore, not the droopy-eyed Meryn Trant, that axes Tyrion in the face.

I meant Moore and said Trant. Sorry. Blurry M names in my head.

Just got around to watching ep 7 on HBOGo. I'll spoiler my initial thoughts just in case those who haven't seen it don't want to take any chances.
On a completely separate note, I just started graduate classes, and before class the other day was chatting about TV with 5-6 people while we were waiting for the professor. One person mentioned Game of Thrones and everyone immediately perked up and started talking about it excitedly. Two people in the room said that they'd started reading the first book not long after starting the show, and haven't been able to put it down. These are people who have never read fantasy before. To me, that is very, very cool. Never in my wildest dreams when I started this series (back when CLASH just hit the shelves) did I imagine I'd be talking with a group of people I just met about how repulsive Joffrey is, or how awesome Tyrion is.

GAME OF THRONES is currently the #2 on the NYT bestseller mmpb fiction list. Not bad for a book written in 1996. Martin is going to be taking money baths in a bath made out of money, in his moneyroom.

Watched ep 6, everything about it has already been said except this: what was the point of the Theon/Roz scene? Seemed pretty out-of-place and useless to me.

I think they are continuing to set up Theon's tastes in the flesh on purpose, to further set him out for second season...and Asha's first appearance when he doesn't know her and not only comes on to her but feels her up....because it's one of the things that Balon, Asha and Co. think has made him utterly soft and un-Greyjoy-like...which is one of the biggest reasons he sets out to take Winterfell to prove he's more than just a lordling who likes whores.

Might be reaching, but possibly just the bit where Roz talks about how Jaime just attacked Ned in the streets of KL, and soon all the men of the North will be marching off to war. As a reader, knowing that what she says is 100% true, that bit kinda chilled me. Other than that, I think it was just a bit more face time for Theon. Every scene he's in this season to me seems fine, but it also smacks a bit of "let's get this guy in on this scene so viewers won't be lost when he becomes a major character in season 2."

But if you hadn't read the books, you wouldn't feel that way. You'd just see another character being explored, I think.

I've been reading through the series again. Am I right in thinking that Stannis' god of light is responsible for Beric Dondarrion being brought repeatedly back to life? (through Thoros?) And that Melissandra has in fact got the wrong person (Stannis) in relation to her prophecys? It's like the Catelyn thing. Is this sort of event on the rise as with the birth of dragons, magic is getting stronger? The dragonfire made by the pyromancers suddenly gets more effective the moment the dragons are born, and I think it was old Nan that said that all magic died when the dragons did.
Just wondered if there was a link, as the sudden reserrection of certain characters from the dead isn't really explained otherwise, iirc.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

It does appear that Melissandre has the wrong person, though that doesn't necessarily mean Thoros has the right person. The source of Beric's rejuvenations is, at least to me, still a mystery. But that's because I am not yet convinced that R'hllor exists. Could be the Many-Faced God for all we know. What we do know is that supernatural stuff exists in this world, and that many different gods are worshiped. The weirwood exist and seem to have supernatural power, and the people of the forest probably exist(ed), but that doesn't necessarily make the Old Gods real. The Seven haven't done anything, nor the Stallion, nor the Drowned God if you allow for scientific reasons that drowned people are revived. The Red Priests do seem to have power though, but who knows where it comes from? Jaqen had power too, and he doesn't worship R'hllor.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

first, i think that theon getting the attention he is now is much better than the way it was done in the books, and second, i always thought that thoros was responsible for berics resurrections and melisandre always had the wrong man. who the 'right man' is, will probably be a curve ball that Martin has had loaded up for some time. although, if that's not the case, it wouldn't surprise me.
thirdly, i'm beginning to suspect that there is only one true supernatural power in this world, and it is not sympathetic to any of the factions and only wishes to see the narrative grow more convoluted. please prove me wrong GRRM!

Or woman, as the case may be....
"pseudoscience and superstition will seem year by year more tempting, the siren song of unreason more sonorous and attractive. Where have we heard it before? Whenever our ethnic or national prejudices are aroused, in times of scarcity, during challenges to national self-esteem or nerve, when we agonize about our diminished cosmic place and purpose, or when fanaticism is bubbling up around us – then, habits of thought familiar from ages past reach for the controls. The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles. Darkness gathers. The demons begin to stir." - Carl Sagan
