Hope I didn't miss the obvious, but he's happy Silchas didn't learn from Anomander his great secret...well, I don't recall learning either :-) Has this come up or just loose end?

My thinking is that Tulas is the rapist (jilting lover?) of Sandalath.

I for one don't think this it he case. I think the nature of Tulas and Rake's falling out was much more "politically" motivated, something having to do with the civil war in Kharkanas and the sundering of Emurlahn. Tulas's sentiments on Rake in tCG are a big indicator in this regard for me - Tulas tells Silchas that he forgives Rake, and I think their enmity would have been characterized by a lot more rancor if Sandalath's rape was at the heart of it.

Tangentially, I'm starting to wonder if we've been mistakenly associating the impurity of Korlat's blood with her birth/Sandalath's rape. This is definitely the most obvious solution. But what if it has more to do with the initial embrace - by high ranking Andii - of T'iam's blood? What if Korlat, for example, was the first Tiste Andii to follow Rake in drinking T'iam's blood and embracing Chaos, thus making her blood "impure." Perhaps she even led Orfantal in this direction. Sandalath isn't a soletaken. Maybe she rejected Rake's decision to embrace T'iam's blood and resented Korlat for not only following Rake in that decision, but leading Orfantal as well.

Sounds like something that'll come up about the Kharkanas trilogy, but my guess would be Tulas f'd up in some major way and enabled Scabandari his move, but Rake did some things that indirectly covered it up...

I think it is quite clear that it isn't eleint blood she is refering to, as someone mentions the blood of eleint and she repeats the statement that she is impure. Cannot remember exact words and got work soonish so cannot find them, but in the context of the quote, it seemed quite clear that it was something other than eleint.

As for Tulas' secret, I think we'll be told in the Karkhanas Trilogy.

Also, remember that when Endest Silann lists the various Edur rulers, Tulas was the one who didn't want peace.

Sandy was being held by Andii, not Edur. It's seriously unlikely that Tulas had anything to do with the rape.

Otoh, he did create the Hounds of Shadow, which opens up a massive range of Light/Dark/Shadow related possibilities even before we consider that he was draconic soletaken as well.

Could be something as obvious as the supposed rape or in a more complicated way maybe Tulas sundered Emurlahn that allowed Scabby to supercede Shorns position as head of the Edur thus allowing him to stab Ruin.

I never knew if we were supposed to 'get' alot of the Tiste stuff from TTh and TCG or if it is just a set up for the trilogy.

And I still don't understand why people think it was rape. Sand says she was 'set aside', not violated. /randomly

As for the secret, no, it was never really put out there even vaguely enough to try to draw conclusions.
