Something just popped in my head, someone mentioned the jaghut tyrant.

It took a STORM to take him down, except I'm blanking and I'm thinking Siallanah and the soletaken didnt actually finish the tyrant off.

So if Hood is anywhere as badass as Raest was.....I'm not surprised he chomps FA to pieces.

What if Raest had obtained his own damn Finnest... he took down a Storm moments after one hell of an afternoon nap and without the power he had put in his own Finnest. Mind = more blown.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

someone said earlier that the FA pures seemed to go down easily in this epic. I have something to say kind of related to that, I thought it was ironic that Brys , one of the worlds greatest swordsmen, never really showcased his skills in either of the last two books. He kept talking about how he had been sent back for some special purpose and I thought it was strange that at one point it looked like he was brought back to kill a FA with names of fallen gods and not a sword...

Just to meander somewhere close to the topic, the whole idea of the FA pures being taken out so easily was that they were ancient and overconfident, they were careless and underestimated (both as beings and in ingenuity) the humans and newer powers. They were all arrogant and totally unprepared to face off against what they ended up fighting - that's why they lost, bad intel'.

It is one of the most common themes running through the books. See "fucking dragon", the sisters vs QB etc for further examples of this.

And really, while the Forkrul Assail SEEM to die easily...they don't. They just have the incredible misfortune of meeting up with:

1) Ganoes Paran, Master of the Deck of Dragons
2) Quick Ben and Kalam, arguably the most deadly duo Wu has ever seen
3) Prince Brys, carrying the legacy of a million forgotten Gods (including their own)
4) Badalle, who summons their own D'ivers God
5) Gesler, near ascendant who's punch could stagger Gods
6) 6 Tlan Imass attacking by surprise (with an assist from Gall)
7) Ublala pung in magical armor+mace with the element of surprise
8) Hood himself.

Aside from the last 3, the rest looked like ordinary humans whom the Forkrul could normally be justifiably confident when facing; they had no way of knowing that each one was ridiculously powerful in their own way. Hood and Ublala got the drop on their respective targets, or in the case of reverence, when she was already crippled by Gesler's punch.

Ah yes, Gu'rull has indeed been quite the pain in the ass, so to speak :( I think Reverence has been the most fun. Might finish it up this week, if my wrist allows :(

It looks like Reverence had all her bones broken. Great job on it.

Gah! I don't want to be an asshole since I missed commenting on the picture for a long while, but didn't the Shi'Gal assassins have several sets of eyes? I thought when he developed his flying form he had to get used to them as well; I always pictured his head as kind of spider-like in terms of multiple eyes at various angles as a result. Otherwise the picture looks amazing, I do love how you kept the ruined half of reverence's face.

he's got the eye's on there. they're just barely visible under the curve of his jaw. iirc, gu'rull only had one new set of eyes, combined with his wings, so that he could keep eyes on the sky and the ground.

Is this anything like what you guys had in mind? Remember it's still a very basic sketch ^_^

Fly back, leave the surroundings to speak, the Spire, the blood, countless bodies, and Hood's fiercly taking the life out of Reverence, with Gess and the dog in another coner... Trying to make a closep would never work, I think, as you loose the whole scene SE painted in our minds.

And no to scaly wings, they should be leathery.

While I was in general disappointed with the extreme ease at which just about every Pure Blood FA was dispatched by anyone they were fighting in the book

I couldn't agree more! The Forkrul Assail were supposed to be the ultimate boss... I mean there were only 14 of them at the end. But they each got the crap kicked out of them, one by one. I found that kinda disappointing too. Some of them had more memorable deaths - my favorite was Hood biting off what's-her-face's face - but I would have thought they wouldn't go down so easily. Really only the one who took down the seven unbound T'lan Imass had any fight in her. And I guess Calm did kill Mappo Trell pretty violently. But the rest... it did make things a little less tense during the 200 page climax of the book.
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves / Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; / All mimsy were the borogoves, / And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son! / The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! / Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun /The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand: / Long time the manxome foe he sought— /So rested he by the Tumtum tree, /And stood awhile in thought.

yeah... maybe the reason the forkrul assail got off'd relatively easy is because the MBotF isn't a video game.

(plus they seriously underestimated the efficacy of certain individuals)

The Forkrull had gotten to used to compleetly dominating any enemy that apeared with their voice powers, either by killing them outhright with the sound of it or commanding them to kill themselves. Pretty classicall villain flaw.

The FA never lost because they were weak though, they were either outfoxed or faced a superior enemy. Grave, Belie and Reverence got killed at the end of their respective battles, when they were screwed anyway. Dilligence, Aloft, Freedom and Equity were overpowered by a stronger enemy/s, Serenity and Calm dident have a chance to see it coming. Could we have gotten more out of them, sure, but it diden feel like they were easy to defeat either. Their control over their soldiers and their marchal power was scary.
