I thought there was something wrong with me thinking the statue looked bustier than here. But glad it's not just me GI.
Otherwise awesome stuff!

^ she's probably offended by being out-cupped by the statue...
I quite literally blushed when I read that, you're too kind. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words.
I like that you point out the little things, I stop seeing them. She does look a bit flat, I can probably add more contrast. I've struggled a lot with making her blend in with the background though, had an idea to put a blue tint in the highlights but I never thought to do it with shadows.
If you want to demonstrate I'd be grateful
Haha, I think the me having a better grasp on anatomy and perspective is a bit of an exaggeration.

wow, that looks awesome, Is. You really did a great job on the background, and her expression is much more serene now
Only thing I would comment on now is that she's looking a little flat. I think you could really enhance the painting if you were to push the contrast up a little more. Deepen the shadows, and play a little with colour. I would've used the background colour, the dark blue one, and mixed in with the deepest shadows, to make her more part of the environment.
Also, the eyeball and iris need a little shading as well
These are little things, really. But I think they would push your painting to a whole 'nother level
I'd be happy to demonstrate what I mean, if you want....I really like this painting, and it has potential for some awesome epicness!
I must say that you already have a much better grasp of anatomy and perspective than I do!

Cool
I'll try to get something done this weekend, but I can't promise anything. I have a lot of Malazan stuff on my to-do list, hehe. Will get to it eventually, though
No problem. I'm really just passing on advice that's been given me many times over the years

Did a little paint-over of your painting, Isolde. Included some grey-scale versions of the two paintings so you can see the difference in contrast. Do think I messed up her face a little though. The face in your version is much better, imo.

Thank you for taking the time and exemplifying

I can sympathize with things looking better close up, the original is nearly 100 x 100 cm so it's easy to get disappointed after having zoomed in 200% working on details only to discover it doesn't work at all when it fits on the screen. Regarding the eyes though I can see even from here the added 'life' to the iris,
I was going to waste the afternoon gaming but now I got inspired...
Edit;
As predicted the contrast didn't get terribly sharp and I reversed it somewhat but at least the colors seem to blend better with the background. This is easily the most time I've spent redrawing the same picture haha

No problem, Is
Sam Hogg once did the same for me, and it was awesome, hehe.
I think it looks better now, but you can still push it much much further...But repainting stuff is boring, so just keep it in mind til you next painting:)

I do like the Masan Gilani pic very much, I think you've got that down pretty well actually.
Not sure on Spite - she's more pragmatic than Lady Envy - wouldn't wear those long flowing skirts etc - well at least I seem to recall her wearing breeches/leggings a lot, but still - a great picture which males me think of Lady Simtal
Still, have rep.

Oh my gawd- I want to get behind Masan Gilani on that saddle I don't care about her gender and my sexual preference!!!! Drop dead stunning.
Lady Spite is equally fantastic, but I am with Hetan on the flowing skirts: when Mappo and us first encounter her in BH p. 712, she wears soft leggings, overknees or some kind of boots made from the leather of a black scaled animal (possibly a lesser dragon), silver chainmail over a grey hooded shirt, two basket-hilted rapiers and she is half sitting and leaning against a big mossy rock in the forest eating an apple the dark hue of blood. This picture just stuck in my mind.
A great colour scheme to work with I think, what with all the grey/dark green, and then the red apple.
The artwork is superb!

Wow. after reading that im certain Masans saddle might be having a crisis
somewhere in the dark corners of this thread.

On lady spite appearance, yes I think giving her a green blouse with a tight vest and dark pants
is the better ensemble. I have made several changes and the red apple in hand sounds perfect,
the colour schemes really suit Spites character.
thanks for all the advice! Im looking forward to reworking Spite and Envy
and posting it all up soon

Picker and Blend, T'amber and Tavore and Shurq remain. Be patient

^Second that.
Also, regarding the male calendar. If we're getting the Beddict brothers we better not be forgetting the Andii brothers - that is, all three of them, not just Rake. *holds up a sign saying "We Want Silchas Ruin"*
