I'm going to Cuba with friends in April. Very excited to get away from the cold!

I remember buddies who went to UBC telling me about campus closing when it snowed.
The University of Calgary never closes. It can be -45 C and 15cm of snow and if you have a test that day, you better get your ass to school cause campus ain't closing!

ditto in Kingston.
we had 1 class that was cancelled due to weather, in 4 years. and that was becase our prof lived on one of the islands and the ferry wasn't working.
BCers are a strange people. you could tell them apart easily, because they were the only ones in Winnipeg to start layering in October.

Yeah, when they close stuff in Toronto I am kind of astonished. People make fun of us for it....but I for one haven't seen a chaos-style snowstorm here since I was a kid. Even then, it's nothing compared to Alberta or Flin Flon Manitoba!

Mayor Bloomberg of NYC addresses all of our concerns about snow, dealing with such difficult questions like, where does it come from? is it dangerous? and, most importantly, what happens if snow touches suede?
"But I saw you [Snake]…faced by Anomander [Mandy] himself. How did…"

Silence. Lots of silence. "Fine!" He shrugged and grinned, "Someone hit him in the face with a coin, and he cursed just long enough for me to get away." ~ Excerpt from Gardens of the Tea Spoon

I've been in sauga for almost 12 years now, and we've had maybe 1 or 2 "snow days"... and even then it was usually just buses that weren't running, schools were still open.
I don't get where the "TO people can't handle snow" thing is coming from.

Nor do I. We deal with it. I don't think I've ever NOT come to work due to snow and I live in the downtown core and transit out to Etobicoke orignally and the Airport area now. Never had much of an issue beyond delays.

Citywide snow paralysis is completely a function of how much money the city spends on snow removal though.
We have a decent budget because we normally get big all-at-once dumps around here. At most schools are closed for a day and the university only ever closes under the most dire multi-day winter snow storms.
Vancouver conversely goes completely bonkers in the hours following a meagre 2 cm of wet snow because they have zero snow removal budget.
Quebec city, which is dense enough by Canadian standards, seems to have no trouble with snow - or at least no more than anyplace else, but I bet their snow budget is enormous.
I wonder what the design factor is for the snow removal budget. the 10-year averages? Probably varies place-to-place.
Still funny that Toronto had to call in the army to remove snow a few years back. That shit was hilarious for the rest of Canada.
25cm and climbing for this weekend according to the weather network. Gonna have to bust out the cross country skis to get to work. Hell, it's only 25km.

Wait, are you telling me they DON'T issue sled-dog teams and snowmobiles to every Canadian of legal driving age?
Because they totally should.

they can't issue dog-sled teams. Dogs are colour-blind, and the intersections would become a horrible mess.

That's why they're driven by people.
Obviously colorblind drivers would necessarily receive snowmobiles.

I've never heard of UBC closing, though it may have. I had to go there in the snow a few times. Pretty sure Simon Fraser has closed on occassion, because nobody can make it up the mountain to get there.

Well not closing entirely but classes being canceled.
I'm hardly a first-hand witness. Only time I've ever been on the UBC campus I was hammered off my face drunk.
