It is currently a depressing 3 degrees C. Depressing because all of my lovely snow is melting, and tomorrow when it -5 it is going to be icy as all frozen hell.

It's 8 degrees today! Bloody marvelous.

Alas it's dropping to -6 and snow tomorrow. Drats.

I had planned to go to the mountains this weekend, but now with all the ice I'm not sure if I want to make the 3 hour drive.

You see Rodeo, Rhulad has the right of it. It should NEVER go above zero in winter since it will only produce ice while destroying snow. And ice is very dangerous.

I think somebody threw a big cup of boiling water into the air outside.

Strangely snowy around here. I suspect government involvement and 747 sized air tankers dropping mind-control crystals on us.

wait a dang minute............

Chinooks are the only things that keep me sane during the winter. Relatively speaking.

Beer, Hockey, parties and nice attractive ladies don't keep you sane?

Hum...

On second thought that doesn't make sense to me either. Since they don't even leave me sane.

I though it was going to TO? don't these things usually travel eastwadrs?

the good thing is, when it snows, air temperature tends to be warmer. which is good, since my warm jacket is out of comission until Monday.

I would like to see and explanation of why it isn't because of evaporation, mainly because part of the freezing is because of evaporation.

Evaporation = liquid becoming gas

This liquid is becoming solid, ergo it is not evaporation.

On a related note, if you visit Canada in mid-winter, don't drink a lot of hot water before stepping outside. We've all seen the horrors...

Also, along with what the other guy said, although the water has an average temperature below 100 C, the kinetic energy of the individual water molecules is spread out in a Gaussian distribution. This means a small part will be above 100C and if they are near the surface they can get out. Try leaving a cup of water in your room and notice that it slowly goes down over a week. Also the boiling point of water is not a constant, IIRC on top of mount Everest it boils at about 60C. It decreases with decreasing pressure because you need less kinetic energy to escape from the body of water. If you take your helmet off in space your saliva will boil out of your mouth (amongst other things).

Lake vostok has just been in the newshttp://www.bbc.co.uk...onment-12275979 , http://www.bbc.co.uk.../world-12302953 . I didn't know its the place that the lowest temperature (natural temperature anyway) has been measured -89C!!

Can I just ask, is it true that trees explode when it gets cold enough? It was in one of the Steven Erikson short stories.

It's true, but not for the reason you'd think - trees actually sweat nitroglycerine when below a certain temperature. True story.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

It's been colder here in Toronto this winter overall, but we've actually had more mild days than FREEZING ass cold ones.

that said, last weekend we went to Niagara Falls (Great Wolf Lodge for indoor waterpark fun) and it was FRIGID out man, like -30 at least.

Still, I love living in Canada, and I love snow and winter....but I have my breaking point. I think it is probably somewhere in the -30-ish area...LOL

I've said it before and I'll say it again - y'all are crazy. My breaking point is probably just below 0. :w00t:

Winterpeg...it'll do that to ya every time. :w00t:

If it's any consolation Mississauga hasn't been much better these last few weeks (I work there), so your home turf is hardly better. LOL
