Just got a chance to read it.
I think it's an excellent treatise on GoTM; the only thing is that now I'm waiting for a follow-up that takes into consideration the rest of the series re: Erikson's theme of compassion.

Dude! Nice job! Really enjoyed that, really thoughtful, and might even help me word myself better when trying to tell other people why I like this series so much.
Do you think in the future you'd write about other facets or issues examined in his works?
Like I said, I've been thinking of doing something like this myself (gonna have to wait 'till my exams are over, oh, and of course, 'till I finish the series!). Do you mind if I use the lists you made on the first page as a jumping-off point?

Anyway, well done, if there's ever anything else, don't hesitate to share it!

I just read Erikson's blog on Lifeasahuman and I am...devastated. This man never ceases to amaze me. I wish I had read this before I wrote my paper because there is a lot of valuable content in there. If any of you haven't read it i suggest you do ASAP! At the same time, I'm glad I didn't read it until now because it seems I stumbled on many of the same conclusions from Erikson's work as Erikson without his explicit statements, and this reinforces their impact for me.

I'm amazed at Erikson's ability to teach, and his autobiographical, mundane stories are just as fascinating as the wild magical prose of the novels. Preaching to the choir, I know, but after this five month exercise of reading, thinking, writing, and analysing, my respect and humility just grows and grows.

On a side note, Ribald tells me that Erikson has read my essay. Mission: Complete.

Step 2: Get published.

Step 3: Write another one (yikes!).
Being optimistic's worthless if it means ignoring the suffering of the world. Worse than worthless. It's bloody evil. And being pessimistic, well, that's just
the first step on the path, and it's a path that might take you down Hood's road, or it takes you to a place where you can settle into doing what you can,
hold fast in your fight against the suffering. And that's an honest place, Cuttle.

Hey guys. Late to this party but thought I'd share some stuff.

I'm also writing up on SE for one of my Uni modules ( Popular Culture) and trying to determine which would be the best way to write about it.

I'm thinking of exploring the increase of fantasy into mainstream culture, how it has done so, the many cliches and stereotypes associated with fantasy and how Erikson ( Namely GotM because it's a short essay) would be worthy of study as an example of a post-modern fantasy writer subverting the genre and ( which is apparent in latter novels; TTH especially) that Erikson's work can be viewed not only as fantasy but also as literature worthy of academic study.

@Burned Tear - Funnily enough I came across your Scriblr essay while doing research on this topic, only now realizing that was you and that I had read your early draft when you posted it on here.
