Here is a very succinct and accurate portrayal of who Bane is as a character, and why I think Nolan chose him...and why I cheer that choice.

Good read, thanks for linking.

This bit at the end where they emphasize that Bane is more out to prove himself than to be particularly good or bad gave me an interesting idea for the Bane part of the plot:

With Batman shunned following tDK, Bane is in Gotham City taking down gangsters/pseudo-supervillains. Bane's motivation is just to prove himself better than they are, but the citizenry start seeing him as the new Gotham hero and lauding him. Bruce, with the help of Alfred and Morgan Freeman, knows that Bane isn't so nice and tries to sabotage his reputation as a hero as secretly as possible. Ethical batman issue this time is that they're all constantly wondering if Bane isn't really so bad and Bruce is just jealous because he used to be the hero. In the end they can't stop his reputation, Bane becomes loved and uses his influence to do something dastardly to destroy or draw out Batman (or to figure out who Batman is), and there's a big showdown to climax it.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Catwoman is one of those characters that just doesn't translate well to live action, no matter what she will come off as cheesy.

You're a Packers fan, everything to you is cheesy.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Very interesting article about the various possibilities of Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

I watched a couple of trailers - they're looking good, I think. I can't wait to see the movie, although I anxiously anticipate what Bane's going to do to Batman I must admit.
but are they worth preserving?

Holy HELL!

That trailer was fucking amazing.

I love that dialogue bit between Catwoman and Batman "You don't owe these people anything, you've given them everything.".....Batman: "No, not everything, not yet."

Fuck. So good!

With this AVENGERS, PROMETHEUS...this summer is looking like the first real contender to rival 1999 for excellence in movies.

I don't want to be all like... well, me, but I'm not entirely convinced. That said, I wasn't convinced at all by the last trailer so it's a marked improvement. My main concerns are that some of the effects look ropey, especially considering the realism the series is marked for, and that there's so much going on it could end up fragmented. But you know, time to fix the effects still and Nolan is a bit good at his job.

Plus Bane looks quality and I like the Cat/Bat banter. I do wonder how Marion Cottillard will play into that relationship, given the one brief shot of her there.

Agreed. Not just the summer, too, what with the Hobbit and Django Unchained later in the year. Especially when you add in less hyped but enormously promising films like Lawless, Looper, Gangster Squad and Gravity.

..and CABIN IN THE WOODS as well...

Yep...I'm thinking we might finally have another amazing movie year.

I'm kind of getting a No Man's Land vibe from this trailer, what with the bridges blowing seemingly cutting Gotham off.

Which can only be good, as No Man's Land is one of the BEST Batman arcs ever.

I'm getting a No Man's Land vibe from the fact that DC have decided to reprint it just now.

Hahahaha, my coworker and I were talking about that today. Why do people stay in a city where nutjobs are more common than head colds? Never mind the fact that massive swaths of the city are destroyed pretty much...once every three years? They must be taxed out the ass to pay for the infrastructure that has to be rebuilt. :)

In all seriousness though, I preferred this trailer to the first one. That sequence with the bridge blowing up made my jaw drop and even though I've never been entirely cool with the idea of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman I'm very stoked that JGL is in it! (I'm reserving judgement on Bane until I see the entire movie).

And yes, I think summer 2012 will give us a great crop of movies! I'm practically counting down the days to Prometheus and if all goes well I'll be seeing The Avengers this weekend.

I've watched the trailer a million times now and every single time Dr. Bane's line "I am Gotham's reckoning" sends all sorts of sensations down my spine - ranging from anxious anticipation to scared out of my life shivers and delirious delight. that tone he hits there, amazing. the cruel tenderness only insanity can bring forth.
but are they worth preserving?

I wish I was more excited for this than I am. I don't really understand it. The last two were great, but I just am not fired up for this. I'll see it in the theaters based off of the strenght of the first ones though for sure.

New Trailer debuted today. Still looking good!

Things gleaned from this new trailer: Like in the comics Bane it seems has figured out Batman is Bruce Wayne. And Joseph Gordeon Levitt...it REALLY looks like he might take up the cowl...at least temporarily for Wayne while he's down and out.
