I wish I was more excited for this than I am. I don't really understand it. The last two were great, but I just am not fired up for this. I'll see it in the theaters based off of the strenght of the first ones though for sure.

I've intentionally been keeping my expectations low seeing as I thought The Dark Knight was one of the best films made in the last decade. It's hard not to get all hyped up. Which can only lead to disappointment. For the same reason I've been staying away from the trailers. Well, that and the fact that now a days trailers are more like a story synopsis than an actually appetiser.

Two things dulled my interest: Catwoman, then finding out she was played by Anne Hathaway.

Who knows, with Nolan at the helm, she may knock it out of the park.

EDIT - also, do you realize there's been a Batman movie every 3.3 years since 1989? Wow.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

About the trailer I posted: I personally prefer the moodyness of the score in the second trailer...but for me the second trailer for TDK was the best as well, so nothing new there.

About Catwoman. I think we all assumed that Heath Ledger (the guy had one real hit with BROKEBACK) was simply not going to cut the mustard as Joker, but both the script and his performance were stellar. I think Nolan really does bring out the best in his cast....TDK doens't have an actor mis-step in its entirety. Even the smaller parts are well acted. So I don't fear for Catwoman at all. I think she'll do a good job without being too campy. I actually like that beat in the last trailer where the valet tells Bruce that his "wife" took the car home and we see Hathaway roaring away in his Lamborghini...and then we see Alfred consoling Bruce in the Bentley. LOL.

Yeah, this doesn't help. I have no desire to see catwoman in a movie.

But... Michelle Phieffer!

EDIT: I take that back. Just watched a youtube clip of catwoman scenes. Urgh.

But still... Michelle Phieffer!

I'm also conflicted on the Catwoman inclusion in this movie. The fact that Chris Nolan has managed to avoid the cheese factor of the other characters so far gives me hope, but I'm underwhelmed by what i've seen of Anne Hathaway in the role.

I guess i'm still grumpy they didn't cast EVA GREEN instead. Now there's a slinky Catwoman.

I'm going to try and avoid the coverage until it's release, and try and keep my expectations under control.

That's the thing about catwoman. She's always physically attractive, but that is the only compelling thing about the character. Her mannerisms are annoying, she's just lame.

With Tom Hardy as the villain they could have had Lady Gaga play catwoman and I'd still be giddy.

So far all for Nolan films I have seen I thought they were well cast and well written, I mean I wasn't a big fan of Christian Bale and certainly didn't expect him to be the Batman he is until I saw Batman Begins - so I choose to believe there is a good reason for Catwoman and Anne Hathaway. My secret expectation (and hope) is that he reinvented the character and we'll see a bad ass tiger woman- I mean, because the character is usually so one dimensional there is lots of room for developing her into something really interesting and cool that fits the Nolan style of Batman...

My impression of the "Dark Knight" Batman movies is that they have very little to do with Batman. While he may be the prominent character the movies have done so much to focus more on the world that Batman exists within and the villains that Batman combats against. That's what has made the series as good as they are. "Begins" was about Raz and a little bit about The Scarecrow, while "Knight" told a story more centered on The Joker and Two Face with a little on Rachel. So with "Rises" around the corner I'm ready to experience the lives of Bane and Catwoman in a way that not even comic books can depict.
Why should I infect them with my rage?

You just cannot compare heath ledger to Anne hathaway. Heath may have not had a bunch of huge movies, but he's still heath ledger. He was one of the best actors out there. I NEVER had a single doubt about Ledger as the joker. I thought he was gonna be amazing. It wood have been hard for anyone to top Jack Nickleson version of Joker, but he blew Jack away.
And I don't care who plays catwoman, I'd rather not even have that character resurface ever again in any movie. There are just far better villains to choose from.

This^

Handsome Bob rubs his eyes, still seems stressed] One Two: Okay, well, I see that cheered you up. Handsome Bob: It's not that I'm not grateful, it's just... One Two: What? It's just what? Handsome Bob: You wouldn't understand. One Two: Come on, Bobby boy, that's not fair. I'd understand anything coming from you. Handsome Bob: [Handsome Bob surveys him] Would you? One Two: Bob, you're my best mate. Handsome Bob: [Handsome Bob thinks about it for a moment] You see, I don't want the stripper, One Two. One Two: [One Two nods] Okay. Handsome Bob: I want you. One Two: [One Two chuckles, but Handsome Bob remains serious. Tires screech. Car comes to an abrupt stop] Dirty Bastard. [One two leaves the car, walks around] One Two: You dirty bastard! Bob, I know all your girlfriends, all of them. Handsome Bob: I told you, you wouldn't understand. One Two: What, I wouldn't understand that you're a fucking homo? You're Handsome Bob. You're Handsome Bob, the fucking lady-killer, that's who you are. Do you hear me, Bob? I mean, I've had showers with you, man. You've seen my fucking cock. Handsome Bob: I should have just kept my mouth shut. One Two: Yeah you're right, you should have kept your mouth shut! [Handsome Bob buries his face in his hands] One Two: We should've just gone and done the strippers like Handsome Bob would've done. You should just drown the cat instead of letting it out. No, no, not you. Not fag Bob. Handsome Bob: [Handsome Bob still has his head buried in his hands. One Two enters the car] I am so sorry. One Two: Well, I'm sorry. Handsome Bob: No, I'm sorry. One Two: No, I'm sorry. Handsome Bob: No, no, I'm sorry. One Two: No, I'm fucking sorry, Bob, all right? I went over the top a bit. And it was a bit of a fucking surprise, Bob. It was a big of broadside. Handsome Bob: It's fine, it's fine. Five years, you know, I don't know if I can handle it. One Two: I don't know what I was thinking, Bob. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being a poof or being a gay, or whatever it is you call it, I don't know. I mean, there's gonna be plenty of your lot in there. You'll probably love it. [Bob buries his hands again, groaning, says "Oh God"] One Two: What -? What exactly is it that you...? That you want to do to me, then, Bob?

Of fuck it. I'm not breaking that up the way its supposed to be.
Handsome Bob for the win.

I expect the fight scenes between Batman and Dr. Bane to be physical- raw power clashing - because both actors have this intense physical presence, like you can almost feel them in the room.

See, I understand why people are cautious about Anne Hathaway as Catwoman- though the trailers have made me optimistic- but hating on the character herself, and calling her one-dimensional? I couldn't disagree more strongly, she's great and a perfect foil for Batman.

Yeah its more about not liking the character itself, not Anne hathaway really.

I beg to differ, I am not hating on. I remain to be convinced and until such moment, I take the liberty of being critical about Catwoman. I quite like Anne Hathaway in the roles I have seen her, in fact, but I wouldn't have immediately pictured her as Catwoman. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with her.
The character Catwoman however in previous movies are in my opinion one dimensional, but I also clearly pointed out that there is lots of room for development of Catwoman in my earlier post to which you refer to, I believe.

Well, all I'm trying to say is that I don't think the discussion so far was hostile towards anybody, but critical.

This may be the case (I've not seen Batman Returns and Catwoman the movie itself is an abomination I try my best not to remember) but, in fairness, Catwoman is not a movie character. And although there are obvious changes to the mythos, including the excision of the entire Bat-family, the Nolan trilogy is of all the screen (or at least live action) representations the first, afaik, to take direct inspiration from specific comic plots as well as the basic premise, so it'd make much more sense to look there for what he's going to do with Catwoman. I think the way she toes the line between villain and anti-hero is quite interesting in itself, though hardly startlingly original, but her interactions with Batman in light of that make them both more interesting.

I didn't think anyone was being hostile (though you're not the only one talking about her critically and some people are certainly just writing her off), just a poorly chosen turn of phrase by me I suppose...

I like Catwoman too, and I think she is the precise bridge between Batman and the Joker. She straddles that line more than any other rival, and besides being an attractive woman, that is exactly what makes her so dangerous to Batman -- who generally has no trouble rejecting the twisted ideals of the other rogues (no matter how complex or sympathetic they may be).

I also liked Batman Returns a lot, primarily because of Catwoman and the Penguin. It's definitely a goofier iteration of Batman than Nolan's, but it still gave its characters -- these two villains especially -- some pathos, some motivation, some reason to be who they are. Michelle Pfeiffer was fantastic. But I imagine Nolan will go a completely different route, no cat puns or anything like that whatsoever. And I think Hathaway, who is generally a sweetie pie, will give one of the best performances of her lifetime.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Been listening to the soundtrack. Its quite good. I like it.Depends on how much gets into the movie though. Better than the Avengers and Promethious soundtracks (god that Promethious soundtrack was like 5 more characters added to the film. It was always going. Always). Better than Amazing Spiderman, but I won't argue too much on that one, as I've only see that film once and I'm more subjective for this film anyway.

You can listen to it on the Empire website but I think some of the track titles are spoilerish to plot points so STAY AWAY if you want to be unspoiled. I shall not post the link as a result.

I expected it to be good. This is Hans Zimmer we are talking about after all.

AVENGERS (Alan Silvestri) and PROMETHEUS (Marc Streitenfeld) can't really expect to hold a candle to the Score-master that Zimmer is.

It's good to hear that it's good though from an actual listener standpoint. The soundtrack to THE DARK KNIGHT is one of my all time favourites.
