I dont know if you folks have heard about this band...Known for their ZEF (similar to white trash) persona.

First of all i would like to say that there are very few south africans actually like that. Secondly how come a band has to become something like THAT! to make it overseas?
The main guy in the band was part of another band (max normal) that was awesome, more chilled happy relaxed vibes.

I was just wondering what you people think? If you can give the two a listen and see which you prefer and also what you think about the popularity that ZEF is getting?

Who? What? Does Murdock suspect them of something?

I'm getting to old for this.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

That'd be because I butchered Danny Glover's name, which is evidently Murtaugh and not Murdock.

I'm getting too drunk for this.

He was making a Die Hard reference. But why? I have no choice but to blame booze and the fact that the band has the particle Die in it.

Die Antwoort... I saw them live (or rather, heard them, as I stood outside the performance tent because it was packed to the brim). The secret I think is that they are musically pretty good - there was little difference between their live performance and their singles, and it was live, not playback - as well as crazily marketed and hyped. There are quite a few similarities between it and Lady Gaga, I think, and both are successful.

I can tell you the ZEF concept is kinda hard to understand and no-one is interested in it . We currently have a lot of promotion for Jack Parow (had a discussion on him and Fok of Polisiekar or whatever the correct African spelling is with alt146 in the concert thread), and people just think he is a bit funny... and that he has one incredibly hot drummer.

ahem....my bad.

They are musically good i agree but so was their last band... I just hink it is weird that they had to change so much to become famous

also is it really Danny Glover? I thought it was some1 else who played the cop... or am i wrong again.

Actually, I believe that's a Lethal Weapon 2 reference. :admin:

NPS, that is a bit obscure thread anyway, 'cause except for a few dedicated hardcore metalfans who drool over Karnivool and me posting stuff about dance and lite-rock, no-one ever looks there

FTFY

And don't worry Pathos, I've tried to explain how weird it is that a completely satirical band is taken so seriously overseas. Either we are really messed up or they are.

I like Die Antwoord - their style is enormously fun to watch and appreciate and musically, they're quite good. I know a South African elsewhere and he initially didn't like 'em, but now - especially post-tokolosh video - he loves 'em.

The nuke trash of the girl always gets me. It's almost like you want to clean her up, until you realize what words exactly are coming out of her mouth.

Heh...there lyrics are a lot of fun to listen too.
Especially if you understand everything they are saying
And some great skillz musically to boot.

Yolandie and Ninja live up the road from me.
See them walking to the supermarket all the time.
And yes...they look like that all the time.
