I saw a new person today, had no contact, just saw them log out. The name was something like "Shadowe" or "Suspiciouse" or "Sinistere" - Definitely an 'S' word with an added 'e' on the end. Just wanted to get someone to vouch for this person. The log out time would have been around 2:00 or 2:30 EST (GMT-5 I think)


Does anyone else think that it would be helpful to pin the whitelist to the top of this thread for easy viewing?

Whitelist seems to work though. I deleted my own name and tried to log in. It straight-up won't let you through the normal interface....so unless somebody is really really trying, they won't be getting online.

I do want to rotate the IP though just in case we've been placed on somebody's "servers to grief" list that gets passed around griefing douchebag IRC channels. I'll see what's involved with that.

I am about 350 rail pieces shy of completing my epic tail line all of the way from the spawn point to my tower at X 3052 z 541. Long track is long, with zero mod assistance. It's deep, on level 16. Feel free to use it if anyone wants a long cart ride.

The tunnel goes from X 0 y 0 south 1000 blocks, then west 500 blocks, then south from there. Once I get all the rail laid I will dig an access hatch up and people will be able to get to it from the spawn point.

Sorry bout that. Got high last night and forgot to restart the server. Mah bad. Server is running again.

D'rek and I were trying something new that might be useful in the future. She had a bad grief attack on her tower and wished to move it to an undisclosed location. I shut down the server, backed up the world as-is, she did the edit to cut/paste her tower out of its old location and into the new one, after which I restarted the server using her edited file.

I don't forsee any trouble since map editing isn't anything out of the ordinary for big servers, but if you see any errors or things completely out of whack then please let me know. Her place was intentionally left as a large chunk of 64 block-deep ocean. Anybody else is free to claim that spot if they so wish. No problem. I don't know the new location but you might find out from D'rek if you ask nicely.

To explain, I wanted to try it for 2 reasons. First, D'rek was pretty discouraged by the massive damage to the tower and spoke of quitting, despite being a regular user and one of the first few online. I decided it was best to let her hide the tower so she can finish work on it undisturbed. Second, I thought it would be useful to be able to cut/paste regions or chunks in case of some major grief attack...like somebody burning down the azath tree. IE...I don't want to get in the habit of map editing, but will allow it in the future under extenuating circumstances or to correct some major damage caused by griefing.

D'rek can comment better than I, but as I understand, if an area were to be severely attacked, correcting the problem is as simple as cutting the chunks from an older backup file and pasting them into current server file. I hoped not to see any more problems with the whitelist, but it appears somebody is still causing damage. Just pay attention, maybe check your older areas / excavations to make sure everything is ok. It's also a good idea to get your valuables out of the obvious spots and into hidden troves. We don't have a chest-lock mod active (cos I have no idea how to do that) so the best defense is to hide things.
