I almost bought it 10 minutes ago, but I checked my reserves...
May wait a bit.

Do it DW. You need to give yourself this game. I don't know the current price, but it's WAY cheaper than any other video game and I guarantee it will pay itself off more than any other game you've ever bought.

I got it last fall and still play it all the time. It's like having LEGO when you're a kid.

In other news, update 1.5 is out. In addition to adding weather (snow storms in winter biomes and rainstorms in summer biomes - which is fucking awesome looking BTW) They have decided to add minecart booster tracks. Finally a good use for gold ingots. They don't run quite as hot as a glitch booster, but they are way more stable and reliable, plus they don't cause unbelievable server lag all over the place. You can read up on em on the wiki, but they are essentially redstone-activated power rails that will restore momentum to a cart traveling over them when the redstone is powered. They will also stop a cart traveling over them when they are un-powered. Detector tracks are similar and have a pressure plate in the middle which acts like a button, providing power to redstone circuits only when minecarts pass over them.

Use em like this:

==== Regular tracks

=B= Booster track

=D= Detector track.

For a two-way booster - ie one that boosts regardless of direction of travel

==================D==B==D==================

For a one-way booster - ie one that boosts only for a cart traveling to the right and stops carts traveling to the left

==================D==B=========================

EDIT - read d'reks post and remembered. Put detector rails down first and then conect to regular rails. Apparently the game crashes if you do it in the opposite order. Basically just clear away rails 1 block on either side of your detector / power rail combo. Place power, then detectors, then replace the regular rails in that order.

Note they will not start a stationary cart on a flat track...the cart must have prior momentum in order to be boosted. If you block one end of the power rail with a cobblestone however, it will start a stationary cart in the only possible direction. If the power rail is on a slope, a stationary cart will begin t move under gravity and still receive the boost. So for minecart terminals, you can put your power rail on a hill, throw the cart on the track and it will stop at the power rail. Have that hooked to a pushbutton. Climb in, hit the button and away you go.

They will boost 128 blocks (2 world chunks) before you stop, so you need fairly frequent boosters to keep up speed and they will only boost 3 squares uphill - meaning a series of detector blocks and power rails are needed for hill climbing.

Anyway, long post, but check em out. They're super fun to mess around with. Finally a good compact solution for rail travel on the skybridge too.

Wherever you can, please start dismantling your glitch boosters and replace with the new style booster tracks. The old ones are the primary source of crashes and lag on the server. Fo reals.

Edit: Oh, and watch out in rainstorms. If the sun ain't out, the skellies and zombies DON'T DIE. I almost got ganked a couple times last night.

ya. All updated as of last night.

Go for it.

My launcher still doesn't give me the option. Do I need to DL a new launcher or something or is there an option to change it to the new style?

OK here is the whitelist contents so far.

Lemme know if I missed you or misspelled (or mis-capitalized) anything. I don't think the capitalization matters tho.

I haven't turned this on yet either...I want to make sure I get a good correct, complete list before doing so.

Anyone see lightning on the server yet? It looks amazing. Wherever it strikes, it starts a fire.

This could be bad for those of us with large wooden structures...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Cover them with water?

But to be honest, I haven't seen any weather yet since I've been playing post-patch.

@Traveller Lightning does strike and set fire but is immediately doused by the rain.

Rain looks nice, adds a bit of atmosphere.

Also, the wolves were fun, but they are kind of stupid when it comes to lava. And, it was fast enough to play, and I didn't have any glitches. If only the boats were 100% again...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

This is why I wanted folks to dismantle their glitch boosters. Less lag means better working boats and better working swords to deal with surprise mob attacks during the day.

Also, anybody else been able to get achievements during server play? I couldn't even get it to do the first one.
