You can use any of the circles on that chart...up to 45 square diameter

Flip the 45 diameter circle up vertically. At some point along its circumference, it's 16 (33 diameter) squares in each direction from center (see above). You should be able to count that from the circle chart.

Then just build concentric circles inward from the exterior, following the circumference described by the 45 diameter circle.

I appreciate the explanation (and wonderul drawing) however, having tried that once before, layering concentric circles in that way will-- WOAH! I've just read actually what you've written and that sounds like a good idea! Thanks!

(I saw going to say that it would end up as a cone and not a hemisphere but that was before I saw the thing about flipping it on its end.)

NOTE: rep if it works!

QUESTION: Is glowstone destroyed by ghast fire?

Dunno RE ghast fire destroying lightstone.

Yes, a dome is just a circle on its side.

When I said concentric circles, yeah, that would make a cone if you step upwards by 1 layer with each circle.

If you're following the contour of another circle (like a 45 diameter circle) you might lay 3 concentric circles on the same layer, step up 1, lay another 2, step up 1, lay 1, etc...

Basically, the cross section of a dome is just half a circle.....so if you only want a portion of a dome, just follow a portion of the circle.

Suddenly I had an urge to visite the forum and from there I got a need to go onto Minecraft again. After reading this thread though, I'm worried.

Still, my cathedral will become the centre of a new city!

Unfortunately, this is being built on single player so that I can cheat and make it perfect, however if anyone's got some suggestions on how to improve/fill out this rather empty entrance hall, that would be great.

Also any ways to improve the spirally thing would be good because it's looks somewhat...not right at the moment.

THANKS!

OK: Serious question.

I need a halfway decent idea to counter a spree of lava-terrorism. One tower on my server has been COVERED in lava. I do not want to spend hours scaffolding and bucketing it away. Would some strategic high-level water sources work?

If you pour water over running lava it turns into cobble stone and you will have to spend an hour chipping it away, If the lava is pooling you are going to be creating obsidian. Just place a block all the places where the lava is springing from.

I take it that this is not the Malazan server? Cause this sounds like griefing.

Place dirt blocks on the lava source blocks if there aren't too many of them. Problem solved.

Do the water thing if it appears that there are a lot of source blocks. It works reasonably well for getting rid of large amounts of lava. It's quicker and safer than trying to contain it all with dirt blocks anyway.

Yes, I am also concerned RE griefing. I assume none of the "core" members of the server are responsible, but there were recently some new additions - peoples' roomates etc... that none of us have experience with.

I'd like to keep it all grief-free if we can. If anybody knows anybody doing this then please let me or Jim know so we can warn / kick them.

If there are concerns about the server IP being compromised by the public at large, I think it's fairly easy for jim to enable a server whitelist or simply change the IP to something new and secret (ie distributed only via private message).

Let me know and I'll chat with Jim about it.

Yes, it needs an update. Why are they adding updates daily or sometimes more than that? Pain in the butt, I say

@HO & Apt,

yes, server is outdated. I PMd Jim about it last night.

It might be a good idea to at least get Jim to make an IP change for the server (if that's not too difficult).

I think our current one is posted publicly in this thread someplace. With a new one we could control access and have Jim create a whitelist that allows only people to which we've PM'd the IP.

Can't think of a better way (and there probably isn't a better way) to implement security on the server. Not that we need to be totally exclusive, but gives us a way to track who's logging on and whether they're forum members (or vouched-for by forum members).

I believe that Mojange has mentioned that they planned on adding a feature that meant that the game would no longer download the newest client automatically, rather you could stay with the old one. This would be smart because that way we would never be out of synch with the server.

That was the plan. That way we could just do weekly scheduled updates or something.

Would also be nice for them to add server password support or something...basically so that you need 1 more layer of security above and beyond the IP to log into a SMP server.

They're missing chunks. Log out and re-login and they often disappear.

It's a known issue that's being addressed.

It's a very bad idea to fall into one. INventory loss to the max.

yeah. I PMd him on it again.

Notch is a busy lad these days. I too am looking forward to having a choice whether to update the client or not.

It would be a lot easier on Jim to be able to simply update every friday or something like that.
