I'm out of Minecraft action until I can get another mains adapter for my ethernet cable.

Just to remind you, if you find my area (it's a little way roughly south of Morgoth's or just follow the torches from the sign post near Kanubis's) you're very welcome to dig and keep what ever you want -- the help is much appreciated, so long as you abide by my regulations (keep things neat, tidy and relatively level and make sure you know where the walls are before you dig -- please do not dig into the edges).
The love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain.

Jim rebooted the server, but it's now giving me an outdated client message.

Does that mean I'm outdated or he's outdated?

I PM'd him the error anyway so hopefully back up soon.

What is a mains adapter GP?

fucking really....

I give up on moon spawn until alpha is done

All changes reversed again.

EDIT No blame on jim...I understand...but this is strange to have it happen 2x in a row when all previous updates were fine.

That sucks, man. I tried to play yesterday, and the bugs were out of control. - Block respawn, lag, spontaneous block generation (Yeah!) getting stuck, you name it. I just gave up
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. I got some stuff done, but it was tricky with all the problems. The lag/respawn was terrible - a whole line of excavated blocks would suddenly regenerate; then disappear, then come back again. I kept getting stuck in the blocks too.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Can you guys check if your work from yesterday during that lag period was reversed?

That's when I did my MS changes and I think it might be an issue with the way the server saves data after looking at some stuff on the MS admin forum. I passed it along to Jim but it would be very helpful if anybody else could report similar loss of data issues from yesterday. It will at least tell us if it is a problem with me or a problem with everyone (ie with the server).

Also, Jim modded me to see if it makes a difference. So I guess I'm a mod now.

no idea how to do that yet...but will look it up tonight.

I don't know if this is something that is already done automatically, but it might be a good idea if Jim backed up the server every so often, at least once a week, so that we could do a roll back in case something catastrophic happens.

Was reading that it has something to do with server lagging out and losing the ability to save.

It does not save constantly like single player, more like every few minutes, and if it lags out then chunks of the save can get dropped - ie moon spawn.

As I recall I was working on a pretty laggy server last time I lost stuff too. Curious to see what others report since they were online during the same period of time yesterday.

It will at least tell us if it is location/player based or world-based.

Apt, where did you find info on modding? I'm apparently a mod now, so I might as well learn that little spawning trick. Any other pointers?

I'm about to construct a proper minecart system from my mansion to the Sept of Morgoth. It'll make it easier to continue the tunnel too.

sucks to hear about the lag issues and the loss of data. I s'pose this was a good week to be without internet connection at my place.

It aint the end of the world.

I'm mainly interested to see what the cause might be.

Ideally we could figure out when server updates are likely to happen and ensure that changes are not made on those days, since this seems only to happen on server reboots / updates.

If you haven't received your alotment of 2 stacks (I think that's what we all agreed upon) then yeah. Next time we're both on I'll hook you up.

I need to figure out how to do that first...of course. Will try to experiment with it later on tonight.

Oh sweet, now I don't have to wait to reclaim my diamond tools I lost. I suppose I can spawn stuff for myself as easily as I can for somebody else.

Apparently minecarts are fixed now says notch? Dunno if that is actually the case. Boats have been broken since notch added the code that allows other players to see your boat. I thought it was the same type of issue with minecarts since the symptoms of stop-and-go were so similar.
